3,000 Fully Faltoo NFTs sold out within 48 hrs of launch: Viacom18

Mumbai: The maiden NFT drop of 3013 tokens, consisting of 3000 loot and 13 rare tokens from Fully Faltoo collection curated by Viacom18’s youth, music and English entertainment cluster, was an instant success amongst the cluster’s superfans and NFT collectors, globally.

The range of 3000 NFTs from the loot category, priced at $10 for each token, was sold out in less than 48 hours of its launch. Precisely, 40 per cent of the loot was sold in the first 30 minutes and 80 per cent within 24 hours, announced the media company on Wednesday.

The loot category consisted of collectibles inspired by ‘Bakra urf GOAT’ also known as the only legendary ‘OG POI – Prankster of India,’ ‘Rangu The Champ’ – a more passionate character who gave up on his old and boring lifestyle to find out a whole new spark in himself by lighting up his inner dopamine receptors – playback singing, ‘Winging it aka Wing it like Wingnesh’ – a charming guy amongst the ladies who is a  pretty fly for an NFT guy and ‘Many Me’ is You – the wearer of many hats who pulls ’em off with a whole lot of sass.

While the loot is completely sold out, the rare category on FullyFaltooNFT.com which consists of 13 static and animated NFTs is currently open for bidding that ends on 21 February.

Fully Faltoo continues to stay invested in the NFT ecosystem and will explore the utility value of these NFTs giving the cluster an opportunity to deepen engagement with its superfans and collectors.

  • The market for NFTs cannot be restricted by demographics: Anshul Ailawadi

The market for NFTs cannot be restricted by demographics: Anshul Ailawadi

Mumbai:  Viacom18 YME (Youth, Music, and English Entertainment) cluster stepped into the fast-emerging NFT-verse in January with the extension of its ‘FullyFaltoo’ franchise that went on from being a show on MTV and a brand solutions studio, to now an NFT marketplace that will launch its diverse range of digital collectibles. These exclusive collectibles will also have creations inspired by pop culture properties like ‘Roadies’ and ‘Bakra’.

“The move was spurred by the thought that we have a really rich legacy of edgy and unique artwork that has played a key part in the life of most of our consumers. Taking this association a step further, how can we give them a chance to own it?” says Viacom18 head- youth, music, and English entertainment Anshul Ailawadi.

The marketplace fullyfaltoonft.com is powered and facilitated by NFT ecosystem technology framework GuardianLink.io.

Commenting on the partnership as well as the relevance of NFTs for iconic youth brands like MTV, Vh1, and Comedy Central in India, GuardianLink.io co-founder, and chairman Keyur Patel shares, “MTV resonates with GenZ at all three levels – brand, art, and emotions. With its understanding of the youth and a great legacy of popular art, MTV is poised for success in the NFTverse. I see this as the coming together of some of the most interesting creative assets by an interesting brand in an interesting space!”

    ‘NFT’ what?

Non Fungible Token (NFT), essentially blockchain-certified digital art, is a rare, and unique asset deemed as a ‘collectible’. It appreciates over time in value as it is traded or auctioned.

The technology involves three aspects. First is the basic tech that can be scaled to facilitate global participation in the NFT auction. Secondly, so as to make the process more inclusive, multiple payment gateways like credit/debit cards, UPI, and crypto are to be enabled. The third and specific aspect is that of ensuring the security of minting, transferring, and storing NFTs. This secures the NFTs against theft and forgery. Guardian’s high-impact NFTs are protected by its Anti.RIP technology and legitimacy protocol explained Patel.

Just the way all talk about ‘Non Fungible Tokens’ starts with demystifying this apparently loaded term, Viacom18’s campaign around its NFT debut, too, begins with educating the audience about the basics.

“Aimed at both the brand loyalists as well as fence-sitters, our communication has a lot of explanatory stuff around what are NFTs, and how to engage with/trade them. Basically, the first phase of the campaign will be more about ‘trust building’, whereas, the subsequent phases will delve into technicalities like the risks and opportunities involved,” says Ailawadi.

Even though heavily focused online, there’s also an on-air component to the promotions. Additionally, Viacom18 is targeting online spaces and communities such as Reddit and Discord that have audiences engaging in lively conversations around NFTs.

    Takers all across

Ailawadi believes that the crypto revolution is spread across the country, and the market for NFTs, therefore, cannot be restricted by demographics. “We are clear about the fact that our brand loyalists will be the first set of adopters. They are present all over India, in the metros as well as in towns like Kochi and Chandigarh that are not tier1. ‘Fence sitters’ who understand that there is a legitimate offering backed by an iconic brand out there, will come next.” he asserts.

Needless to say, the audience for NFT has a younger skew. However, refraining from generalising, Ailawadi adds, “there are risks associated with NFTs, so people who either do not understand or do not have an appetite for them should think before engaging with them.”

While the digital natives have had a predominantly virtual mode of expression, interaction, and existence at large, when it comes to NFTs, the question that’s being asked is whether they would also like to own something unique virtually?

In this regard, Patel shares an insight stemming from the origins of the phenomenon. “Basically, NFTs got their momentum from the GenZ gamers who collect goods in the virtual space through in-game purchases. With the coming of NFTs, they realised that they can now have authentic stuff for their game that can not only be bought and stored but is also tradable. That’s when this whole thing picked up.”

    Why NFTs

Non Fungible Tokens became a phenomenon last year when the digital artist known as Beeple sold an NFT of his art for $69million through an auction at Christie’s. That was the defining moment for the world of digital art. NFTs could make brands and celebs.

What was yesterday just another digital fad for the uninitiated, is today a rare collectible for the loyalists and buffs, and it has the potential of evolving into a ‘utility’ or ‘asset’, sooner than anticipated. Giving an analogy, Patel observes that NFTs will be in the same space as a 140-character tweet which fetches nearly Rs four million today.

Commenting further on the current and future value of NFTs, Aliwadi remarks, “Many of us had a predilection for collectibles like postal stamps, coins, or tazos in our younger days. While we always had the chance to collect and trade, the opportunity to authenticate and showcase them was limited. Collecting NFTs is the digital equivalent of philately or numismatic, which takes care of these two pain points as well. NFTs can be authenticated by virtue of having a digital signature, and once you are on a marketplace or prominently displaying them on social media platforms, the world will surely notice.”

That’s about the current value of NFTs, but going forward the possibilities are enormous. “Imagine having a chance to attend MTV Supersonic backstage with an MTV NFT. That’s some time away though! We’ll eventually be there,” reckons Ailawadi.

  • MTV launches ‘Memory Karaoke’ to help people with Alzheimer’s

MTV launches ‘Memory Karaoke’ to help people with Alzheimer’s

Mumbai: MTV in collaboration with Ogilvy has launched ‘Memory Karaoke’ – an initiative to help those living with early Alzheimer’s cope with memory loss.

Emphasising how forgetting isn’t funny, ‘Memory Karaoke’ will feature four foot-tapping songs based on commonly forgotten information by those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. With these songs meant to be practiced daily along with caregivers, MTV hopes to ease their suffering and raise awareness about the progressive disease that presently has no cure, said the channel in a statement.

“Music is nothing less than manna for one and all. MTV Memory Karaoke elevates this very role of music to a higher plane by making a small yet significant difference to the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. We at MTV are humbled by the opportunity to be a part of this initiative,” said Viacom18 head of youth music and English entertainmentAnshul Ailawadi.

The sing-along songs will hold important details about the person suffering from Alzheimer’s such as their home address, name, and meals. His or her family and caregivers can also have access to them. The hummable lyrics appearing on the screen like in karaoke will enable the person to remember the information enjoyably and musically over time.

The songs have been written by Ogilvy and composed by Komorebi, an alternative electronic act from New Delhi, and the musical baby of Tarana Marwah – an Indian composer, singer-producer, and instrumentalist who has also lent her voice for the tracks on ‘Memory Karaoke.’ Further, to uplift moods and maintain humour MTV has collaborated with a young comedian on the initiative.

“Music is a therapeutic tool for the mind, body and soul. Memory Karaoke will be an enjoyable, assistive aid for those with early Alzheimer’s to retain, reminisce and recall,” stated ARDSI  secretary-general and integrative therapist and dementia care specialist Vidya Shenoy.

In an attempt to create a deeper impact, remove social stigma and reach out to a wider population, MTV has also joined forces with Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) as knowledge partners for this initiative. ARDSI, an NGO affiliated with Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) is active pan India, and is recognised for providing specialised care services for those living with Alzheimer’s. MTV has also onboarded doctors for the initiative. The channel will leverage its widespread presence to initiate and empower professionals, students, and caregivers in Alzheimer’s month.

“Growing up, we have all experienced how retaining new information would become easier whenever it was set to a tune. With the same being true for those with early Alzheimer’s, we wanted to create a platform where tracks could be customised by the family member by entering important information of the affected member as lyrics,” said Ogilvy Mumbai’s group creative director Akshay Seth and senior creative director Chinmay Raut. “Memory Karaoke offers personalised songs that can be practiced daily, resulting in better retention and recall over time. The mission is to introduce an enjoyable, daily ritual that takes away the frustration and helps the caregiver and the person with early Alzheimer’s to eventually sing in a manner comfortable to them.”

The custom-made karaoke will be available on www.mtvmemorykaraoke.com.

  • Post-pandemic, more youngsters want to earn from their hobbies: MTV Youth Study 2021

Post-pandemic, more youngsters want to earn from their hobbies: MTV Youth Study 2021

Mumbai: Over 67 per cent of youth prefer streaming content of their choice, as it allows them to watch the content of their choice, without having to pretend or fear being judged. Majority of them also feel that it makes them more expressive and free, showed the latest MTV Youth Study – ‘Atmanirbhar by Circumstance’ released by MTV Insights Studio, on Friday.

The study covering over 26,000 respondents aged between 15 and 25 years from 50 Indian cities, attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of India’s Gen Z population, reflecting their evolving behavior, mindsets, habits, and perceptions amid a raging pandemic.

At least 21 per cent of Gen Z feel that following their passion is the most important thing in life rather than having a stable job, trending up exponentially from 9 per cent in 2016. With side-hustle gaining more importance in Gen Zers‘ lives, 70 per cent felt side-hustles are the real shot to fame and success and 69 per cent felt they would want to earn from their hobbies.

According to the study, ‘money’ holds prime importance for them in a post-Covid world. Over 46 per cent of respondents said “money is all that matters”, up from 21 per cent in 2019. Another 46 per cent said they would rather focus on being rich and successful instead of living a meaningful life, up from 25 per cent in 2019. 74 per cent felt there are a lot of undiscovered careers and ways to make money.

According to the report, more youth consider watching shows as a method of escapism into an imaginary world. The share of such respondents has gone up from 12 per cent in 2019 to 21 per cent post the pandemic.

“2020 has been a pivotal year in so many ways. This edition of our youth study is the first such exercise post the first wave of the pandemic,” said Viacom18 head for youth music and English entertainment Anshul Ailawadi. “It offers a rare glimpse into how young Indians are coping with a changing world in which every aspect of their lives – from their education and relationships to their careers and interests – needs to be rebuilt.”

The in-depth qualitative and quantitative study offers to be a go-to handbook for the advertising and marketing community to steer communications for youth in the right direction. Among other findings, the report also found that 43 per cent of youth believe listening to music kept them emotionally healthy and consider it their top stressbuster.

Gen Zers’ belief in true love also continues to decline. One out of every two respondents said they flirted with someone else apart from their boyfriend or girlfriend during the lockdown. At least 25 per cent said they don’t believe in marriage up from 10 per cent in 2019 and 8 per cent in 2016. Over 13 per cent shared they are in a committed relationship down from 26 per cent  in 2019 and 35 per cent in  2016. They are less likely to date someone they meet online and believe that people treat relationships like stories – ‘here today, gone tomorrow’.

The study indicates that although Gen Zers are extremely vocal on subjects of national interest, they have muted participation in on-ground events. Over 83 per cent agree that political topics are a part of peer conversations.

The findings are a result of 185 questions covering seven broad topics: education, money, romance, national interests, content, family, friends, and spirituality, and the Covid-19 outlook.

Given the negativity and volatility of the world around them, Gen Z is seeking refuge in family, religion, and friends. 52 per cent attributed their happiness to their family, up from 42 per cent in 2019 and 13 per cent in 2016. During the lockdown, 65 per cent of respondents said their families were the most motivating factor. Being family-oriented rose to the top of their partner’s priority list. 70 per cent felt more in control of their life after prayer and 62 per cent said being spiritual gave them clarity in a confusing world. 42 per cent would avoid having friends who compete with them, up from 18 per cent in 2019; 45 per cent felt friends are only for fun, up from 25 per cent in 2019

Over 56 per cent Gen Zers believe that life will be back to normal overthrowing the concept of the ‘new normal’ after Covid-19 subsides. As many as 51 per cent will wait for the right opportunity to come their way instead of going after just anything that is offered to them.

“Overall, the findings indicate, India’s Gen Z is increasingly becoming independent or Atmanirbhar while continuing to ride high on aspirations. We hope this research empowers new age as well as legacy brands that are looking to deepen connect and build trust with their Gen Z consumer,” Ailawadi added.

The launch of the report also saw participation from leading brands such as Godrej, Dabur, Dell Technologies, and Spotify kicking off a discussion on Gen-Zfying brands. The launch also had Gen Z representation from AIESEC, a non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation entirely run by youth for youth.

  • This April Fool’s Day, MTV says “The Joke Is on Us”!

This April Fool’s Day, MTV says “The Joke Is on Us”!

MUMBAI: Gives you “Mazak Ban Gayi Zindagi” feels, right? As we continue to share a hearty laughter on different jokes and memes all through the day, little do we realize, “The Joke is on Us”, courtesy- Society and its unreasonable expectations. And while we continue to be in the rat trap, MTV is here to remind us this April Fool’s Day that the joke’s on us, through a bone tickling yet an impactful brand film.

The April Fool’s Day brand film by MTV opens to a family setting and showcases a boy, who is passionate to learn guitar but is burdened by the gyaan of “Board exams aa rahe hain. Yeh ek saal focus karo, badmein toh aish hi hain.” The progression follows when he tries to pick up his hobby during his entrance exams, MBA preparation and Marriage. Finally, when the boy, all settled now, asks his parents “Lo ho gaya settle! Kya ab mein apni zindagi jee sakta hoon”, he is reminded of his current responsibilities as a father.

    Relatable much.

In a fine blend of quirk and impact, the film showcases the guitar as a symbol of joke that our life has been playing on us and unfortunately, there’s no escape from it. Towards the end of the film, we see the protagonist conditioning his baby in a similar fashion, which is a blatant reminder of how certain conventions are followed across generations.

So, this April Fool’s Day, raise a toast with MTV and have a laugh for being the fools we never intended to be!

Not only did the pandemic grip the world and a ‘masked’ reality took over us, it ushered in the phenomena of a ‘new normal’ that is here to stay in the near future. As this overwhelming year bids adieu to us in a few days, we must remember that there’s no way safety can be compromised in 2021! In its new brand film, MTV gears up for the much-awaited new year but with a message, “Saal Khatam Hua Hai, Khatra Nahi, Continue Staying Safe!”.

However, as soon as she is ready to step out for a brunch, she finds herself unable to move outdoors, and keeps getting directed back to the living room. Despite her repeated efforts to step out, she finds herself stuck indoors, much to her dismay. Her house help waves her a goodbye from the same door and leaves the house but she can’t. Perplexed to the core, she tries to figure out what the house help do differently, to finally realize that the latter was wearing a mask. On picking up and wearing her own mask, she eventually manages to step out successfully.

In culmination, the film conveys the message “Saal Khatam Hua Hai, Khatra Nahi, Continue Staying Safe” as a strong reminder to keep safety a priority in the times to come.
