    Star One adds spice with fusion flicks festival

    MUMBAI: When one looks at films, one genre that has grown in popularity on television has been the Hinglish film. Star Movies has enjoyed success in the recent past with its Made In India band.

    It had shown films like Bend It Like Beckham, Anita And Me. In a bid to replicate the success formula, sibling Star One is hoping to achieve similar success with its Pepsi Fusion Flicks initiative.

    The seven week long festival will feature films with English titles with a desi touch. The films will be showcased every Saturday and Sunday from tomorrow 19 February at 10 pm.

    Star India executive VP content and communications Deepak Segal says, “Fusion is the crux of Star One programming. Our content has revolved around innovative programming concepts and stylised presentation. These English Indian movies, addressing Indian diaspora, are films that go beyond the exotic and are becoming increasingly popular.

    “While most of these films have had very limited theatrical releases, the exposure they get through this telecast should be encouraging. By bringing the Pepsi Fusion Flicks we are only reiterating our intention to provide our viewers with the best.”

    The movies to be showcased include 3 Deewarein which airs tomorrow 19 February, Bollywood Hollywood on Sunday 20 February, Mumbai Matinee and Mr. & Mrs. Iyer.

  • Sony bags the telecast rights for ‘Devdas’

    MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television has acquired telecast rights of the much talked about blockbuster of the year -Devdas.
    Sony announced on Saturday that it has acquired the rights for a period of five years to air the ‘most lavish’ feature film ever produced, besides Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaye, and the recently released Mr & Mrs Iyer.
    The sheer magnitude of the movie in terms of the monetary investment and the famous star cast ensured its nomination into the Oscars as the Indian entry this year.
    After last year’s Lagaan, this is the second mainstream movie to qualify as India’s entry. Coincidentally Sony had earlier bagged the right to air Lagaan as well.
    Both SET India Private Limited Chief Executive Officer Kunal Dasgupta and Cricket, Movies and Events channel of SET- MAX Executive Vice President and Business Head Rajat Jain are exuberant about the acquisitions. “With Lagaan ,K3G,and Devdas, the most expensive Hindi film in the history of Indian cinema and the most successful film of 2002, we have made a clean sweep of the biggest blockbusters in the marketplace”, says Jain.
