    Comedy Central topples Zee Cafe; Movies Now continues to dominate English movies space

    News Flash: Sony ESPN and Sony ESPN MUMBAI: The English GEC genre saw Comedy Central emerging as the new leader, while Movies Now, though with a decline in its viewership, continued its league by being at the pole position. According to week 8 Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) All India data, the English GEC space has witnessed a decline in viewership.

    English GEC

    Comedy Central toppled Zee Cafe garnering the first spot with 190 (‘000s). Zee Cafe stood at the second place with 159 (‘000s) followed by AXN with 138 (‘000s). Star World with 108 (‘000s) and Colors Infinity SD with 59 (‘000s) grabbed the fourth and fifth position.

    English GEC

    Movies Now continued to lead the genre and bagged the first position with a decrease in the ratingsto 2767 (‘000s) as against 3083 (‘000s) in week 7. Star Movies garnered the second place with 2526 (‘000s) followed by HBO at number three with 1695 (‘000s). Zee Studio with 1529 (‘000s) stood at the fourth position followed by Sony Pix with 1364 (‘000s) at the fifth position.HD to live telecast UFC 196 in India

    Zee Café is No.1 channel in English GEC; Movies Now leads English movie genre

    MUMBAI: Zee Café emerged as the number one channel in the English general entertainment channels (GECs) genre, while the English movies genre saw Movies Now continuing its dominant streak, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) All India data in week 7. 

    English GEC

    In this week, Zee Café garnered the pole position with 229 (‘000s) followed by Comedy Central, which retained its second position with 217 (‘000s) with a dip in rating as compared to the previous week. AXN secured the third position with 205 (‘000s), Star World grabbed the fourth position with 137 (‘000s) and Colors Infinity SD stood at number five with 69 (‘000s).

    English Movies

    Movies Now continued to lead the genre and bagged the first position with an increase in ratings with 3083 (‘000s) as against 2542 (‘000s) in week 6.

    Star Movies captured the second berth with 2519 (‘000s) followed by HBO at number three, which saw a slight dip in rating with 1705 (‘000s). Sony Pix with 1384 (‘000s) was at number four, while Zee Studio secured the fifth position with 1271 (‘000s).

The third position is secured by Zee Café with 171 (‘000s) while Star World holds the fourth position with 113 (‘000s). Colors Infinity SD takes the fifth spot with 107 (‘000s).

    In a first of its kind initiative, Movies Now flirted with Romedy Now and made it the most memorable Valentine’s Day for the twitter community who joined in the conversation to make sure Romedy NOW accepts the date.

    It all started at 10:30 am on February 14 when MOVIES NOW was seen making a move on Romedy NOW, who seemed a bit reticent initially, but finally agreed to go on a date with MOVIES NOW – only after MOVIES NOW pulled out all the moves to get Romedy NOW to #BeMyValentine.

    The two channels used dialogues from iconic movies and series to make the conversation an extraordinary one for all Twitterati. The conversation involved the followers of both brands to support them in their responses to each other, which enriched the exchange even more! 

    The unique activity was conceptualized by MOVIES NOW’s digital agency Carpe Diem and executed by agencies of both brands – Carpe Diem and Skarma.

    Movies Now & MN+ to simulcast ‘Gandhi’ on 30 January

    MUMBAI: Times Network’s movie channels Movies Now and MN+ will simulcast – Gandhi – a biopic on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on 30 January, 2016 at 1 pm.

     

    Directed and produced by Richard Attenborough and written by John Briley, the film features Ben Kingsley as Gandhi, Saeed Jaffrey playing the role of Sardar Patel, Alyque Padamsee as Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Roshan Seth as Jawaharlal Nehru. The 1982 biopic dramatises the life of Gandhi, the leader of India’s non-violent struggle for independence from the British, and also stars Amrish Puri as Khan, Candice Bergen as Margaret Bourke-White, John Gielgud as Lord Irwin and Martin Sheen as Walker, among others.

     

    Gandhi has bagged eight Oscars along with 10 Golden Globe awards, and several top creative and technical awards from some of the most reputed guilds and associations across the world.

     

    The movie will also have a repeat telecast on Movies Now at 11 pm on the same day.

    Chrome Week 52: English Movies & Business News only gainers

    MUMBAI: In week 52, English Movies emerged as the number one genre in six metros with a growth of 1.9 per cent Opportunity To See (OTS), according to Chrome Data Analytics. Movies Now led the section with 60.3 per cent OTS.

     

    Next on the list was the Business News genre with a growth of 0.1 per cent OTS. CNBC emerged as the channel, which benefited the most in the genre with 75.3 per cent OTS.

     

    Amongst the losers of week 52, the Sports channels genre led the section on an all India basis by witnessing a drop of 5.4 per cent OTS, while DD Sports led the chart with 74.9 per cent OTS.

     

    English Entertainment was next in line, which failed to generate positive ratings and dropped by 3.4 per cent OTS with Zee Café being the most affected channel at 49.9 per cent OTS.

     

    The Youth channels genre in Hindi Speaking Market (HSM) dropped by 1.8 per cent, wherein Channel V recorded 85.1 per cent OTS in week 52.

     

    On the other hand, the Religious channels genre dropped by 1.5 per cent in HSM with Aastha leading the tally with 60.3 per cent OTS.
