    Bengaluru : Showcasing a blockbuster line-up of 12 renowned cricket experts, Star Sports announced the commentary panel for KPL 2018 which began on 15th August 2018.  For the first time ever, Australia’s bowling legend Mitchell Johnson donned the commentator hat. A winner of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, Mitchell was one of the most feared bowlers in the world, due to his lightening pace. Since its inception, KPL, one of the oldest running domestic cricket leagues in the country, has been a perfect platform for the emerging cricketers to showcase their talent.

    The panel consists of celebrated Indian and International experts such as Dean Jones, Brett Lee, Scott Styris, Mitchell Johnson, Vijay Bharadwaj, Sunil J, Fazal, Charu Sharma, A Balachandra, Sujith Somasundar and anchors Suhail Chandhok and Mayanti Langer.

    The experts will continue to use their experience and immense knowledge of the game to further enhance the viewing delight of the tournament and bring cricket ever closer to the hearts of fans from across the country.

    Speaking on his commentary debut for KPL 2018, Mr. Mitchell Johnson said, “It is a pleasure to be a part of such a world class panel of expert commentators for KPL 2018.     MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in all likelihood will be delayed to 19 or 26 February. It was earlier expected to take place on 4 February.

    The IPL auction is probably set to return to Mumbai this season after Bengaluru hosted the event in the last three seasons, and five times altogether — since its inception in 2008. It was in 2010 when the first auction was held in Mumbai.

    Friday was the last day for the interested players to submit their names. Ideally, the names will be sent to the eight teams tentatively on Monday. A final list of players in the auction will then be prepared. A senior IPL official said that an overhaul of the system was anticipated next season.

    The franchises of the tenth season have declared 63 players. Rising Pune Supergiants have declared the names of 11 players. Last season champions — Sunrisers Hyderabad — have released the names of six players.

    Pune franchise skipper MS Dhoni has selected overseas players such as Thisara Perra, Kevin Petersen, Albie Morkel and George Bailey.

    Well known names that have been released by other franchises include Amit Mishra, Dale Steyn, Mitchell Johnson, Colin Munro, Kyle Abbott, More Morkel, Martin Guptill, Corey Anderson, Eoin Morgan, Trent Boult, Chris Jordan and Varun Aaron.

    ‘Greatness is Contagious’, says World Cup

    MUMBAI:  The countdown to the biggest sporting event, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, has officially begun with the ICC releasing the official TVC for the big game.

    With 67 days to go for the mega event to begin in February, the campaign titled ‘Greatness is Contagious ’ reflects the insight that one cannot help but be affected when one is in the presence of stalwarts.

    The ad begins with a few children, in different parts of the world, gearing up for a match by preparing a pitch by either arranging a set of stones to be used as make-believe wickets or sketching a wicket on a ruined wall. Now as the pitch has been set, determined young cricketers, both boys and girls, are seen getting ready to score the perfect six. Next, fans begin chanting and cheering the young teams.  

    A still from the film depicts how cricket is celebrated as religion in India, as temple priests and worshipers are shown performing an aarti of two cricket bats! Indian fans enjoying the game are spotted wearing the jersey of cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar.  Towards the end, left arm fast bowler and Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson, along with New Zealand’s Brendon Macullum ,are seen gearing up for the big match.

    The World Cup, this year, will be hosted jointly by New Zealand and Australia.

    The music in the 60 second TVC is that of Swedish Producer WDL’s Bob’s Beat, assisted by Markus Wetterberg’s (Mawe), vocals to the electronic sound. The agency for the TVC is CHE Proximity while the production was carried by Sweetshop. Ben Quinn is the director and the executive creative director is Leon Wilson.

    The ad put up on ICC’S Facebook page, so far has garnered 31,000 views and 603 shares and on YouTube 2,394 views and counting. On twitter, the video which was shared by the Council, garnered a paltry 81 re-tweets and 75 favourites as fans from a few countries expressed anguish over not many cricketers being included in the TVC.

    ICC announces line-up of ambassadors for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

    MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the appointment of its ambassadors for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. The ambassadors include Australian fast-bowler Mitchell Johnson, New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, India’s Virat Kohli, Sri Lanka’s former captain Kumar Sangakkara and Australia’s Shane Watson.

    The ICC Ambassadors will add their support and considerable profile in the build-up to and during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015; including involvement in the ICC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and event promotions.

    Mitchell Johnson who was delighted to be a part of the group said “I look forward to helping promote what is set to be a fascinating tournament with some outstanding teams gearing up to claim cricket’s most coveted prize.”

    Kohli, a star for India in their victorious 2011 Cricket World Cup campaign, commented, “It is a matter of pride to be selected as the ambassador of ICC.  As a cricketer, I wish to spread the passion of cricket to grassroots levels and I look at this as an opportunity to unify global initiatives for cricket throughout the world.”

    Black Caps captain McCullum, who has featured in the past three World Cups added, “With the World Cup just months away, no doubt all countries will be actively plotting and planning their campaigns. In 1992 our sport captivated the nations of both New Zealand and Australia, and I have no doubt the 2015 edition will do just the same.”

    Former Sri Lanka captain Sangakkara, who featured in the 2007 and 2011 finals in the West Indies and India, said he was honoured to have been appointed an ambassador for the forthcoming World Cup in Australia alongside some great players.

    Watson, one of the world’s leading all-rounders who tasted World Cup glory in 2007, commented, “Having played in the 2007 and 2011 World Cup campaigns, it truly is a special occasion and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a World Cup at home against the best teams in the world. To be part of a transition phase that now has us playing quality cricket is fantastic and we are looking forward to the challenge of playing against the best players in World Cricket”

    After IPL, it’s party time for cricketers at CEAT Cricket Awards

    MUMBAI: At a star-studded ceremony held on Monday, CEAT Limited hosted the 2014 edition of the CEAT Cricket Rating International Awards to raise a toast to the gentleman’s game. 

    Both international and domestic talent was honoured on the basis of CEAT Cricket ratings for the year 2013-14. 

    India’s top batsman, Virat Kohli, was awarded Overall International Cricketer of the Year. Incidentally, he had won Cricketer of the Year earlier in 2011-12.

    Left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan was conferred CEAT ODI player of the year while the youngest of the lot, Vijay Sol took home CEAT Young Player of the Year Award.

    In the T20 format, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan won CEAT International T20 player of the Year while Australia’s Mitchell Johnson picked up CEAT International Test Player of the Year.

    CEAT Indian player of the year went to Ravichandran Ashwin while IPL Season Seven Star and Australia’s own, Glenn Maxwell walked away with Most Popular Choice of the Year Award.

    A new category Domestic Cricketer of the Year was introduced to recognise talent in the domestic circuit. This time, Robin Uthappa bagged the title.

    RPG group chairman Harsh Goenka said, “This is a reiteration of the close association CEAT has with cricket and our endeavour is to recognise individual brilliances on the international cricket scene.”

    However the highpoint of the evening came when the name of cricketing legend and one of India’s greatest wicketkeepers Syed Kirmani was announced for CCR International Lifetime Achievement Award. 

    Kirmani got a standing ovation from the crowd as he received the award, teary eyed, to a rousing applause. The man who represented India in 88 tests and 49 ODIs and called it a day after sending cricketers packing a record 234 times was accompanied by his family on the occasion.

    Chief adjudicator of the CEAT Cricket Rating and India’s greatest opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar said “CEAT International Cricket rating Awards is one of the most important events in the cricketing calendar as it recognises the achievements of the players from grassroots to the international arena. And it has now reached its 19th year.” 

    On Kohli’s win a second time this year Gavaskar said, “It is good to see an Indian winning the main award again and that he has won it a second time at such a young age.”

    The event featured a comedy act performed by renowned stand-up comedian Saurabh Pant, who through his witty one liners on cricket, brought cheer to the packed audience. The event culminated with a sensational Bollywood performance by Desi Boys star Chitrangada Singh.
