    Pranav Joshi promoted to business director at Wavemaker

    MUMBAI:  Pranav Joshi, a seasoned media and marketing professional, has officially taken up the role of business director at Wavemaker. With over a decade of experience in the marketing and advertising sector, Joshi is poised to strengthen Wavemaker’s media strategies.

    Previously, Joshi served as associate business director at Wavemaker, where he led the Volini portfolio for Sun Pharmaceuticals and showcased his expertise in both traditional and digital media planning. He has demonstrated a strong work ethic and a strategic mindset, underpinned by an MBA in Marketing from Chetana’s Institute of Management & Research.

    Throughout his career, Joshi has held key positions at prominent firms such as Madison World and Mindshare, successfully managing campaigns for major brands including Godrej and Hindustan Unilever. His knack for utilising research data to inform strategic planning has earned him a reputation for driving significant business growth.

    Joshi’s appointment comes at a time of rapid evolution in the media landscape, and he is expected to leverage his skills to navigate emerging trends and foster innovation at Wavemaker

    MUMBAI:  Media professional Sneha Udyawar with over eight years of experience in marketing and advertising, has joined Marico as commercial marketing manager. With expertise spanning media planning, contract negotiation, and market strategy, Sneha brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role at the leading consumer goods company.

    “It was a warm welcome at Marico. With a fantastic onboarding process,” she said. . 

    She has worked in Zepto as a commercial manager for media & marketing  where she managed contract negotiations and strategic briefings. She had stints at Mindshare,GroupM, Starcom and R K Swamy BBDO.
    Sneha holds a master’s degree in entertainment, media, and advertising from the University of Mumbai, specialising in advertising, with a consistent academic record. She has also completed advanced certifications in digital marketing and brand communication from Mica.

    In addition to her corporate roles, Sneha has volunteered with U&I Trust and has experience as a social media executive, emphasising her dedication to community engagement and digital outreach

    Vikram Sakhuja honored with AAAI Lifetime Achievement Award

    MUMBAI: The Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) presented its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Madison Media & OOH group CEO Vikram Sakhuja, on 10 January at a glittering ceremony attended by leading figures from the advertising and marketing industry – Piyush Pandey, Prasoon Joshi, N. P. Singh, Arvind Sharma, Madhukar Kamath, Ramesh Narayan, Sam Balsara, Shashi Sinha, Anupriya Acharya, Prasanth Kumar, and another 200 of them. 

    With nearly four decades of expertise, Sakhuja has been associated with global giants like Procter & Gamble, The Coca-Cola Co, Star TV, Mindshare, Maxus, and GroupM. An alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Calcutta, his career highlights include setting up India’s first media AOR, launching the country’s first afternoon soap opera, and leading brand introductions during P&G’s and Coca-Cola’s early days in India. He has also been instrumental in pioneering research initiatives such as BASES and retail audits and transforming GroupM into India’s largest and most awarded marketing investment powerhouse.

    Accepting the award, Sakhuja reflected on his 38-year journey, including 23 years in the agency world. He noted how his 15 years in marketing gave him a solid foundation. And how his early years in  DCM between IIT and IIM shaped his professional outlook, stating, “After five years of college, I got a taste of professionalism, and it tasted pretty good. I said to myself: If this is what corporate life prepares us for, I’m all game for it.”

    He added: “I am truly humbled to have been given the Lifetime Achievement Award by AAAI. When I look at the list of 31 recipients before me, it’s genuinely humbling because they were all legends. I am a mere mortal. That said, it is brilliant to receive this validation from my peers. I thank the entire industry for this lovely honour that I’ve been bestowed with.”

    In response to the honour, Madison World chairman Sam Balsara remarked:  “This lifetime achievement award is a testament to Vikram’s tireless work ethic, his passion for excellence and his commitment to making a positive impact on the media industry as a whole.”

    Sakhuja remains an active contributor to the industry through roles in organizations like the Advertising Standards Council of India (Asci), Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), Readership Studies Council of India (RSCI), Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), and Ficci’s marketing committee.

    The accolade recognises Sakhuja’s outstanding contributions to shaping India’s media and advertising landscape.

    Rahul Thappa takes over as dentsu Media managing director Singapore

    MUMBAI: He’s shuffled between jobs in the south east Asian region and in India. Between being on the media side and on the broadcast side. 

    Rahul Thappa, however,  is now on the media side as he has taken over as managing director of dentsu Media based in Singapore from 1 January 2025.

    His remit: looking after investment and management for dentsu’s  regional and global accounts out of Singapore and growing the agency’s customer experience capabilities  (CX) with Merkle.”

    Merkle is dentsu’s technology-enabled, data-driven CX  management company.

    Thapa was last the managing director of Vista Equity Partners-backed global centre of excellence Naviga for the past three and a half years based in Gurugram. He took a shot at self-employment by setting up a consulting firm VDO Focus Consulting for a year and half advising start ups to manage their digital campaigns and strategy between January 2020 and July 2021.

    Between July 2013 and September 2019, he made south east Asia his home base – first in Astro in Malaysia as VP data analytics, trading & sales enablement and then at Fox network group in Singapore as SVP ad sale strategy, sales operations.

    A short stab at entrepreneurship preceded that which ended in in six months. As did his assignment with Mindshare in Gurgaon in the leadership team where he stayed for around a year. He hopped on to Mail Today as COO, but could continue there for only nine months between April 2011 and December 2011.

    A mathematics graduate and post graduate diploma holder in marketing communication from Mica and PGPX in general management from IIM-A., Rahul sent six years and six months at Mindshare Malaysia rising to become managing partner.

    MUMBAI: When you win a premium  media planning and buying account such as Amazon, you put  your best foot behind it don’t you? 

    That’s what ad agency WPP’s has done by setting up OpenDoor,  WPP’s dedicated global client practice for Amazon, providing custom-built teams around a client’s specific needs and challenges and easy access to the right capabilities. 

    WPP has chosen WaveMaker’s chief growth officer Deepa Jatkar to head OpenDoor in India. 

    A hardcore media and tech person, Deepa has had well-rounded 20 years of agency experience. She began her career working at McCann (May 2000-May 2002, media planner); Mindshare (June 2002 to Sep 20024, media planning manager); Omnicom group (Dec 2004 to Nov 2006, media planning manager -Associate director); MediaCom (Apr 2008 -June 2016 -Biz grp head, biz dir, sr biz dir, gen manager); Meta (Jul2016-Aug 2022, manager global biz group -agency vertical) and Wavemaker (Apr 2023-Jan 2025, chief growth officer. She’s got great academic credentials as well – a BA in psychology, a PGDM, and a masters in communication studies.

    Deepa will be putting a crack team in place to service Amazon. No surprises there, Amazon’s guesstimated to bill  around $20 billion globally; WPP is  handling  APAC and EMEA; Omnicom,  the Americas.

    MUMBAI: Zenith took up a lot of her share of mind. Senior media executive Tanya Gupta has taken the plunge and moved from Mindshare India where she was senior director strategy  & insights to Zenith where she is director strategy  (yes, the insights tag has been dropped).

    Tanya has done the rounds of agencies such as Wavemaker, Interpublic group, Isobar (where she spent four years), Group M, Admagnet, Affle . Reliance Retail and Dainik Bhaskar (going in reverse order, with Dainik Bhaskar being her first job).

    Her stints at Isobar and Interpublic group gave her an opportunity to work with brands like Microsoft and Coca-Cola (sparkling, juices and hydration) = two assignments she enjoyed greatly.

    She holds a bachelor s degree in business studies marketing.

    MUMBAI: Omnicom Media group has signed up Varuni Vij as vice-president from this month. Vij has  a large part of her 16 years of working in media agencies, moving onto the client’s side in 2020 when she started  working with Reckitt.

    Vij has had stints with Zenith, Madison World, Carat, Mindshare and Initiative over her career. Her last job was with the Good Glamm Group, where she says she “started as a media lead. But  I significantly enhanced our brand’s visibility and engagement, leveraging my media expertise and passion for beauty and personal care I was promoted to Brand side for notable Beauty & Personal care brands – Organic Harvest, Manish Malhotra Beauty and POPxo makeup.”

    Her going back to the agency side will be a homecoming of sorts.

With 87 total metals given including 10 most prestigious industry awards, SMARTIES India continues to set new benchmarks in marketing excellence.

This unique initiative,  spearheaded by Britannia’s iconic Bourbon, marks a significant milestone in the Indian market, underscoring the power of advanced AI to redefine consumer experiences.

    Britannia BourbonIT combines technology and creativity to enhance consumer engagement. Using Google Gemini’s multimodal capabilities, the platform adds a creative twist to traditional recipes, generating visually appealing culinary creations. It offers a smooth user experience with APIs developed using Google Cloud Functions to handle various input formats efficiently. A profanity filter is integrated to ensure content quality and brand safety.

    Users can submit recipes in formats such as YouTube videos, HTML links, images, or text. BourbonIT, with Google’s Gemini Flash, adds a Bourbon twist to each recipe, creating an engaging experience for consumers.
