    Cold War returns to CNN

    MUMBAI: CNN has announced the return of acclaimed series COLD WAR, the critical exploration of the nearly half-century long military and ideological conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. In a year which marks the 25th anniversary of a landmark event in history – the fall of the Berlin Wall – airing from January on CNN International, COLD WAR takes viewers on a journey through the most dramatic moments in modern history, revealing how these events changed the face of Europe and continue to define our world today. The series of 24 episodes will airs every other Saturday at 1630 & Sunday at 730, January 4 through October 26, then each subsequent Saturday, November 1 and 8 at 1630 & Sunday, November 2 and 9 at 730 IST

    “COLD WAR is an epic series that captures the dynamics of one of the most important eras of recent times,” said Mike McCarthy, senior vice president of programming for CNN International. “We are thrilled to offer viewers one of CNN’s most comprehensive and informative productions, in the year that marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.”

    Spanning 24 one-hour episodes, COLD WAR begins with the rise of the Iron Curtain and follows the flash points and global confrontations leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. More than 500 eyewitnesses and participants contributed to this historical narrative including a number of world leaders and notable figures like Mikhail Gorbachev, George H.W. Bush, Fidel Castro, Henry Kissinger, Robert McNamara, Sergei Khrushchev, Pierre Salinger, Eugene McCarthy and Jimmy Carter.

    Online at www.cnn.com/coldwar users will be able to watch videos from the series as well as view iconic Cold War speeches. The page will also include articles about how the world has changed following the turbulent times in the second half of the twentieth century, and what issues still resonate in the present day.

    COLD WAR is narrated by Kenneth Branagh and executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Jeremy Isaacs and former CNN executive Pat Mitchell.

    Unesco honours Shah Rukh Khan

    MUMBAI: United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has presented Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan with the Pyramide con Marni award for his charitable work.

    With this honour under his belt, Khan becomes the first Indian to be honoured with this award.

    It is said that Khan was asked to be a part of the event in March this year, but since he was busy with RA.One, the actor couldn‘t confirm his availability till October.

    Dignitaries who attended the gala event were Mikhail Gorbachev, Noami Cambell and Ute Ohoven among others.

    MUMBAI: With the football World Cup kicking off tonight in Germany, football’s govening body Fifa has announced that its site FIFAworldcup.com is available in nine languages

    All 32 teams and 736 players in football’s showpiece event are highlighted in depth with the very latest news and profiles. The site is also offering an unprecedented experience with many new and interactive features.

    Free video highlights: Two minutes of the finest action from each of the 64 matches will be available within minutes after the final whistle. No registration or payment is required, simply click, watch and enjoy!

    The Emirates Matchcast includes play-by-play commentaries, the official Fifa Data Feed, users Fanchat, photographs of the action published in real time, trivia, polls and much more.

    There will be editorial coverage in nine languages. 50 journalists from 20 countries will be reporting around the clock. There will be previews and reports for each game as well as technical analysis, exclusive interviews, features and stats.

    VIPs Love Football: This is a new section where pop stars, actors, politicians and sporting greats reveal their passion for the game exclusively on FIFAworldcup.com. Amongst those included are Mikhail Gorbachev, Joss Stone, Placido Domingo, Ilie Nastase, Ato Boldon, Alpha Blondy and Mark Webber.

    Official Fantasy Football: Here visitors can choose a squad of 23 players before 9 June and compete against football fans around the globe. More than 250,000 visitors to the site have already registered their team in the hope of being crowned the world’s greatest virtual manager.
