  • Nickelodeon Online launches ‘New Game of the Week’

    MUMBAI: To kick off the New Year, Nickelodeon Online HAS unveiled its latest addition for fans and has launched its “New Game of the Week” feature on Nick.com.
    Games of the week will be free, brand new Nick property-themed games are made available to Nick.com visitors on a weekly basis. One original Nick or third party published game will roll out every Friday throughout the course of 2006. The games will be based on popular Nickelodeon properties such as Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Avatar, SpongeBob SquarePants, The X’s, Danny Phantom and others.
    “The ‘New Game of the Week’ shows our commitment to providing safe, fun games for kids and families, and helps demonstrate our leadership in original online gaming development. We want to remind kids that we have the most games online and become a destination for online gamers by bringing new high-quality, skill-building games to kids,” said Nickelodeon Online senior vice president and general manager Mike Skagerlind.
    The first “New Game of the Week,” Jimmy-Timmy: Co-Pilot Chaos, rolled out on 6 January and earned a spot as the number-one game on Nick.com. In the current “New Game of the Week,” Avatar: Fortress Fight, users choose a tribe and fight to the finish to see whose nation’s fortress falls first. High scores will be posted on the website. In order to post a score, a user must possess a “NickName” and be logged into the site. Nick.com will also offer a new game player page and users can post messages, tips and tricks about their favorite new games on the Nick Game of the Week Message Board. Nick’s “New Game of the Week” is also available to sponsors.
    Nick.com’s featured “New Game of the Week” line-up join’s an extensive line of free Nick-published and third party games available from Nickelodeon on Nick.com. There were more than one billion game plays on Nick.com last year and more than 500 million plays on Nickjr.com. Nickelodeon also offers a selection of more than 60 family-friendly paid downloadable games on Nick Arcade.
    Nick Online also plans to build distribution partnerships throughout the year with third parties and portals to syndicate these games to a broader market. Nick Arcade’s portfolio of downloadable games will frequently be updated with new releases from third-party developers and original games published by Nick Online.

    Nick Online in the US takes paid gaming initiative to the next level

    MUMBAI: Kids entertainment brand Nickelodeon in the US will introduce paid downloadable games for kids on Nick.com and Nickjr.com with the re-launch of Nick Arcade at www.nickarcade.com on Friday 1 July.

    To introduce the state-of-the-art gaming platform, Nick Online has partnered with industry leaders Big Fish Games and TryMedia for their expertise in paid gaming marketing, merchandising, publishing, and technology.

    Nickelodeon Online senior VP and GM Mike Skagerlind said, “Nick Arcade provides a unique platform of rich game experiences for our audience that they can download and own. With the combined expertise of Big Fish Games and TryMedia, Nickelodeon will move to the forefront of this arena.”

    Nick Arcade will re-launch with more than 60 premium downloadable games for kids, including Nick.com published games such as SpongeBob Obstacle Odyssey, The Fairly OddParents Big Superhero Wish, Jimmy Neutron Invention Revenge and Nick Jr. titles including Dora’s Rapido River Rafting Race. In addition, the site will include a collection of third party titles from a variety of game developers. Games will be priced at an average of twenty dollars.

    Big Fish Games CEO Paul thelen says, “We consider Nickelodeon as one of our premiere partners in the paid gaming space. Nickelodeon adds legitimacy to this emerging market because it extends casual game offerings to a younger audience, and adds top-tier branded content to the mix.”

    The portfolio of available games on Nick Arcade will be frequently updated with original paid downloadable games published by Nick Online, which will be released beginning third quarter 2005, as well as new releases from third party developers. In addition, Nick Online will be building distribution partnerships throughout the year with third parties and portals to syndicate these games to a broader market.

    As part of the Nick Arcade, users can join a membership program for $7.99 per month called the Nick Arcade Pass.By joining the programme, members will receive one free game every month, along with coupons and discounts on games, and other benefits.

    On NickJr.com, adults will also find a “Games for Grown-Ups section at www.nickjrgrownupgames.com. This will include a selection of third party games for the website’s parent audience. Launched on June 10 with the support of Big Fish Games, Games for Grown-Ups features play puzzles, word games, cards and more such as Magic Vines, Chuzzle Deluxe and MahJong Quest. These are intended to give parents a quick, fun break from their daily lives.

  • Nick online launches Dot Kids domain web sites

    MUMBAI: The online division of kids brand Nickelodeon has launched two new web sites as part of the Dot Kids Act. The act was established a couple of years ago to ensure safe spaces on the net for children under 13.

    nick.kids.us for kids and nickjr.kids.us for parents and preschoolers have been created by the network as extensions of nick.com and nickjr.com. Elaborating further on the strategy Nickelodeon Online senior VP and GM Mike Skagerlind is quoted in a media release as saying, “At Nickelodeon we’re committed to putting kids first, and we want to be everywhere kids are, especially on the Internet.

    “We are delighted to be able to extend Nickelodeon’s engaging Internet entertainment philosophy to the new dot kids domain in a way that continues to observe and respect kids’ safety and privacy,” he said.

    One of the features that nick.kids.us offers is the SpongeBob’s Jellyfish Shuffleboard. Fans of the hit show SpongeBob SquarePants can play undersea shuffleboard with SpongeBob SquarePants and surfer-squirrel Sandy Cheeks.

    Then there is The Fairly OddParents Big Superhero Wish Game. Fans of the special episode of The Fairly OddParents’ Big Superhero Wish can zap super-villains and rid Timmy Turner’s town of evil.

    On the other site nickjr.kids.us there is Dora’s Super Silly Costume Maker: preschoolers can help Latina heroine Dora and her cousin Diego dress up for a super silly fiesta. They can also have fun with Blue’s Matching Game. The aim is to help To help Blue from the show Blue’s Clues find all the matching cards.

    On 4 December 2002, US President George W Bush had signed into law the Dot Kids Implementation and Efficiency Act. This had created a kids.us domain to serve as a “safe haven” for children using the Internet.
