Madison OOH Platinum Outdoor’s clutter breaking campaign for Tata Motor’s Tiago

MUMBAI: Tiago, the new hatchback from Tata Motors with cutting edge design, technology and driving dynamics was recently launched with a clutter breaking OOH campaign.  Platinum Outdoor, the AOR for Tata Motors planned and executed the entire campaign across 70 plus cities/towns in metros, tier II and tIII cities.

The campaign had two phases: The  first phase announcing bookings for the hatchback in key markets, followed by the launch phase in all markets. Traditional outdoor formats, key mall facades and airports were used to enable the consumers to experience the car.

On the day of the launch the agency conceptualized a clutter breaking idea to highlight different features of the car through larger than life installations at multiple locations.  Some of these include, blinking headlamps of the car, highlighting the car name, emphasis on Messi with Messi’s cut-out and a Tiago Zone at one of the busiest junction in Mumbai.

Platinum Outdoor CEO Dipankar Sanyal said, “Tiago launch was the first major launch campaign undertaken by Platinum. True to the product, the campaign focused on the features through innovations. With the use of our planning tools, we were able to deploy quality sites at the right places which delivered high visibility in all markets.”

  • Tata Motors looks to score on football’s popularity with Messi

Tata Motors looks to score on football’s popularity with Messi

MUMBAI: Football fanatics in the country were overjoyed to hear the words “Namaste India” from their idol and one of the biggest names from the world of soccer Lionel Messi, as he made his maiden campaign address to the nation. After ruling over the hearts of millions of soccer fans across the globe, the champion has now set his eyes on India as the brand ambassador for Tata Motors for the brand’s #madeofgreat campaign.

This is also the football star’s first ever association with an Indian brand.

“I am very excited about my first association with an Indian brand and am extremely thrilled to be part of the Tata Motors family,” said Messi on his association with the brand.

Titled #MadeOfGreat, the campaign that took off few weeks ago created quite a buzz in the industry through powerful TVCs , digital advertising, and experiential marketing initiatives. The campaign’s ground activation organised by Wizcraft across multiple cities at malls and other popular public places were well appreciated.

Keeping all the fanfare aside, one can’t help but ask how relevant is Messi to Tata’s consumer base in India? Can a marketing campaign ride solely on the star player’s popularity without any relativity factor for the consumers? If sports were to be a moving factor, wouldn’t cricket and an Indian player fit the bill better for the brand’s India campaign?

While some may argue that the brand’s’ idea to get Messi onboard was to create a huge stir with their first ever celebrity association, Tata Motors, passenger vehicle business unit, marketing and communications – head, Delna Avari begs to differ.

According to her, the decision wasn’t single-mindedly led by Messi’s far reaching influence on the youth, but a well thought of strategy keeping India’s growing exposure to the game.

“Football is not only a global phenomenon but it is one of the fastest emerging sports in the country in terms of popularity. Currently, India has an approximate viewership of 80 million for football. With various researches conducted across fields to measure the impact of celebrity association on a brand, we realised that Indian celebrities are over exposed and were associated with multiple brands,” shares Avari, hereby nullifying any prospect of brand association with an Indian sporting celebrity.

She further adds, “We as a company wanted to connect with the younger audience (less than 35 years) especially in our domestic market and ‘cool’ is something that this age group loves to associate with. Messi is found cool across all age groups, his iconic stature and values inherent to him were just the perfect kind of amalgamation for us as a brand. He is a winner who is trustworthy, reliable, pioneering, simple and driven by self-belief, which is what is at the core of Tata Motors as well and hence he is the perfect match for us.”

Not to mention, with Indian Super League (ISL) second season going on, the campaign couldn’t have had a better head start.

Avari points out that the campaign has garnered a positive response from both consumers and stakeholders. “Besides trending on Twitter on the day of the campaign launch, we have received approximately 178 million impressions. As part of the campaign, fans were sent around the city through a series of clues, until they arrived at the final destination where the hidden letter stood,” she informs.

Backing the brand’s reason for changing their marketing strategy, Avari adds, “With an overall aggressive marketing strategy, we have always customised our marketing plans as per our products. Sub brands like Nano, Bolt, Zest, Safari and Indigo have their own strong individual identities. However the need to have a common link to bind these sub brands and to create a well-defined brand architecture for the company brought this campaign to life.”

When it comes the mediums used to propagate the brand message, Tata Motors hasn’t left any stone unturned for maximum impact and reach. “All the mediums that we have worked with have a different strategy, be it print, digital or mobile. Experiential marketing is another important leg of our campaign as we believe that on-ground activations create great impressions on people’s mind,” she voices.

Expanding further on their experiential marketing initiative, Avari says, “With Wizcraft on board to execute our BTL plans and DigitasLBi as our digital partners, we are working on a great mix and it will be showcased through this 360 degree campaign. which will comprise a series of innovative and compelling campaigns across mediums. For instance, a part of our BTL activation involves the implementation of augmented reality. With this, we gave our customers an exclusive chance to experience how getting a picture clicked with Lionel Messi would feel.”

Not only that. On 3 November, over 10 million customers of the brand were pleasantly surprised by getting a call from Messi himself, albeit a recorded message. The initiative was an integrated campaign with Truecaller. “We were thrilled to know that out of the 10 million calls made, approximately 9.8 million people received them. While #madeofgreat trended on Twitter on the day of the campaign launch, we also crossed over 300 million impressions across mediums in just two weeks,” shares Avari.

Given the football player’s high brand value, there’s natural curiosity on his signing amount for the campaign. “It is a two year contract. The cost is in line with what international celebrities are paid globally,” answers Avari when asked about the particulars of the contract.

As per Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes in the world for 2015 Messi ranks 4th with a net earning of $22 million from his endorsements. In the light of this knowledge, it is safe to assume that a large pie of the brand’s marketing spends has gone into getting Messi on board.

  • Hathway – MSM Media Distribution resolve differences, end dispute

Hathway – MSM Media Distribution resolve differences, end dispute

MUMBAI: Multi system operator (MSO) Hathway Cable & Datacom and Multi Screen Media’s distribution arm MSM Media Distribution (MSMMD) have finally put an end to their very public dispute.

Hathway subscribers in phase I and II were greeted with a scrolling message on their screens, which informed them about restoration of MSM channels.

Commenting on the development, a senior Hathway spokesperson told Indiantelevision.com, “We have mutually agreed to renew our deal with MSM in DAS and analogue markets post a meeting yesterday. The MSM bouquet channels have been reinstated in our packages.”

It all started on 14 August when Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) had directed Hathway to pay Rs 14.56 crore towards subscription dues to MSMMD for DAS Phase I till the expiry of the agreement i.e. 31 October, 2015 in three instalments.

Hathway in reply to that said that it will not renew the contract with MSMMD for DAS phase II. It may be recalled that this contract between the two expired on 31 March, 2015 and was not renewed by Hathway then.

Commenting on the entire development a senior media observer said, “It’s good that both Hathway and MSM Media have kept the interests of cable TV subscribers in mind and ironed out their differences. A lesson to be learnt from their dispute and the resolution thereafter is that MSOs, DTH players and broadcast networks need to refrain from washing their dirty linen in public. Commercial disputes between two parties need to be resolved behind closed doors and not in the public glare of the media. Using the media for one’s own ends only sends out a bad signal that the industry has yet to mature to government, the regulator and potential investors in India’s video and broadband distribution sector.”

Speaking to this website, Maharashtra Cable Operators Federation (MCOF) president Arvind Prabhu said, “It’s a great move firstly for consumers and secondly for the ecosystem. We are glad that they sorted it out amongst themselves. Having said so, we are now waiting to see how Sony or Hathway compensate the mental and commercial losses of last mile operators (LMOs). Huge number of cable subscribers have shifted to DTH during the dispute. We have given a representation to Hathway from the Aurangabad association but if they don’t do anything, we will go to TDSAT. The ecosystem needs mutual understandings, stakeholders should not let the subscribers suffer because of their individual benefits.”

At the time of filing this report, MSMMD spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

For the time being Hathway subscribers who missed out Messi and Ronaldo dribbling their way through to the nets can enjoy the highlights and wait for the weekend to catch some live LA Liga and Italian Serie A action on Sony Six and Kix for the first time this season. The sports expertise of MSM acquired the broadcasting rights of the two flagship football tournaments this year but before the commencement of the season the two stakeholders landed into dispute which resulted in fans missing the matches.

  • Germany Wins FIFA World Cup 2014

Germany Wins FIFA World Cup 2014

MUMBAI: In a nail biting finish, after 64 matches spanning a period of one month, Germany on Sunday night was crowned FIFA World Cup 2014 champions. It won thanks to a lone goal, courtesy from substitute Mario Goetze who scored smoothly during extra time, anointing the Germans as the first European team to win the title on South American soil.

In the 113th minute, Gotze took a pass from the left from Andre Schurrle, trapped it on his chest and swiveled it past Sergio Romero and effortlessly kicked it into the net. This was enough for the Germans to start celebrating and Argentina to begin wailing.

For Goetze it was dream come true as he expressed “I’m more than happy and I’m happy with the team and what happened here in Brazil. I guess it’s more or less indescribable how I feel. It is absolutely sensational.”

While Messi and the Argentineans’ had the best early chance, the Germans were too strong in every way with the best all-round collection of players. But for Messi there was some rejoicing, as he was declared the Best player of the Tournament receiving the Golden ball. Germany’s Manuel Neuer received the Golden Glove as he was declared the best goalkeeper.

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh both tweeted about the World Cup match. While Modi wished both Argentina and Germany for the final, Yuvi congratulated Germany and said it brought back the 2011 world cup final memories for him.

The most mentioned players on twitter from the winning team were, Mario Gotze, Manuel Neuer, Christoph Kramer. From the Argentinan team it was Lionel Messi, Gonzalao Higuain and Javier Mascherano.

This wasn’t the first time the two giants have met in a final. In 1986, Argentina beat Germany in the final in Mexico. Four years later, Germany was crowned world champions after beating the South Americans in Italy. Sundays match again saw the two lock horns with Germany winning their fourth title besides winning in 1954, 1974 and 1990.

  • Argentina fight out Holland in last semi final tonight

Argentina fight out Holland in last semi final tonight

MUMBAI:”Argentina have got Messi, we’ve got Robben. And quite frankly, I think the better player is Arjen,” said Van Marwijk, Holland’s coach at the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago. But only tonight’s semi final clash between Argentina and Holland will tell who is better of them.

Robben has contributed three goals on Holland’s journey to the semi-finals, as the veteran is also valued for his leadership on and off the pitch.

It has been 24 years since Argentina have played in a World Cup final – surprising for a nation that considers itself one of the football giants of the world. The two teams have met four times in the World Cup, twice in Germany, with the Dutch winning twice and losing and drawing one match each.

The last time they faced off was in 2006 in Gelsenkirchen the result of which was a scoreless draw. But tonight’s match will be watched with keen eyes as the winners will play against Germany who secured a berth in the final yesterday.
