Glad U Came PR agency introduces menstrual leave for employees

Mumbai: Glad U Came becomes the first PR agency to announce period leaves for its menstruating employees on ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’. With 90 per cent of its employees being women, the agency recognises the importance of the hour and believes that period leaves are something that every working woman deserves.

This policy will make it easier for women to take time off on the first day of their period. Female employees are hesitant to explain the reason for their leave during their period, so they avoid taking leaves and work in discomfort & pain.

In any case, most women try to push through and go to work. This is typically due to a concern of being viewed as weak or unable to execute their jobs if they disclose menstrual-related symptoms to their supervisors in most of the companies. This policy by Glad U Came would give employees who have painful menstrual or menopausal symptoms the option of working remotely and taking a set number of paid leave days each year. It’s past time to acknowledge that women menstruate and that it’s perfectly acceptable to take a day off to get through the discomfort.

Speaking of this new policy, Glad U Came founder Maddie Amrutkar said, “We are a young and small team of twenty five people, twenty one of whom are women. Menstruation is something that she goes through every month and this is the least we can do to comfort her. I believe that period leave is not a privilege but a basic right that every woman deserves. The aim is to decrease the stigma associated with menstruation and make it easier for women who are experiencing period pain to take a break.”

Mumbai: Menstrual Hygiene is still taboo in India, and as per a 2014 UNICEF report in Tamil Nadu, 79 per cent girls and women were unexposed to hygienic menstrual practices. The unhygienic prevalence stood at 66 per cent in Uttar Pradesh, 56 per cent in Rajasthan and 51 per cent in West Bengal.

This menstrual hygiene day, Pee Safe launched a Pass the Cup campaign to overcome this challenge and highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene using menstrual cups, which are also economical and environment friendly.

Celebrities and influencers like Kritika Kamra, Krystle D’souza, Shibani Dandekar, Nusrat Jahan, Shreya Sanghi, Muskan, Lavisha Kalra, Vinni Jain, and many others were seen as they passed the menstrual cup (metaphoric reference to Christianity) to each other to help raise awareness about safe menstrual hygiene and the practical utility of using these toiletries.

Pee Safe founder Vikas Bagaria said, “Menstruators bleed for five days every month and deserve to be safe, whether under a lockdown or not. They have a right to know about the sustainable options available to them.”

Pee Safe has advocated the cause of personal hygiene since 2013. Over the years, the brand has created its market leadership in various product segments and developed goodwill and trust amongst its consumer base. Since its inception, the brand diversified into products including biodegradable sanitary pads, organic cotton tampons, reusable menstrual cups, panty liners, natural intimate washes, wipes, and sweat pads for both men and women, besides pollution safe anti-pollution dust masks.

RIO launches new campaign on Menstrual Hygiene day

RIO-Heavy Flow Pads, the only sanitary pad you will ever need to manage heavy flow, from the Nobel Hygiene family, launched a new campaign today to coincide with the upcoming Menstrual Hygiene Day to raise awareness about the challenges that women face due to heavy flow.

In our society, women have normalized the extremeness of their period due to lack of awareness about heavy flow and therefore do not realize that their condition might require them to use different products than the norm. This often results in leakage, staining, the napkin overflowing, a higher rate of infections because of leaving on a full pad for longer than it should in addition to rashes and discomfort because of having to compensate by using multiple pads at once. All of these are signs of poor menstrual hygiene practices.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day i.e, 28 May 2020, RIO addresses this issue via a campaign with a series of analogies to showcase how women feel when they use a regular napkin during heavy flow and calls out the oxymoronic habit that we have become accustomed with. This is questioned through instances that elaborate on the need for the usage of the right product that can handle heavy flow, which is essential for good menstrual hygiene.

Sharing his views on the campaign, Kartik Johari, Vice-President, Nobel Hygiene said “An overwhelming majority of women in India who suffer from heavy flow are undiagnosed and ill-informed about their condition. We understand that the journey from using a cloth to sanitary napkins has been a long and arduous one. However, this needs to be refined further as a few sizes do not fit all. There are a lot of missed sizes in between that lead to hygiene issues that need to be addressed. And a huge chunk of it deals with heavy flow which has so far been ignored.

With this campaign, we want to reach out to women and help raise awareness about the repercussions that ignoring and not recognizing heavy flow as a unique condition might have on their bodies. It also raises awareness about how the usage of the right products can help maintain good menstrual hygiene to a large extent. The normalization of this condition cannot continue in the interest of their wellbeing. The campaign will show solidarity with women facing this challenge and let them know they are not alone along with busting age-old myths surrounding this condition.”

The campaign will also create awareness and education on the brand’s blog articles about good menstrual hygiene practice, busting myths and about sanitary pads including the purpose of wings and length of pads.

The campaign will be showcased on their Instagram page @theriopads and Facebook page @theRIOpads. The concept has been put together by Schbang. Brand Pages:
