    Fifteen new HBO Max originals coming to Warner Media platforms in Asia

    MUMBAI: With the launch of HBO Max in the United States on May 27, Warner Media has confirmed that a first wave of at least 15 HBO Max Originals will land on HBO GO and channels in Asia in 2020.

    Most shows will be available first on HBO GO, such as The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo and Love Life where three episodes of each have already dropped on May 27. Premiere dates for other titles and those across HBO, Warner TV, Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels are still to be confirmed.

    The programming slate, specially curated to suit the taste of Asian audiences, includes drama series, documentaries, movies and kids shows. The content is sourced from studios and distributors including Lionsgate, Paramount, Warner Bros. and Sesame Workshop.

    Talent includes household names like Ridley Scott, Meryl Streep, Kaley Cuoco, Lena Dunham, Anna Kendrick, Steven Soderbergh, Melissa McCarthy, Ray Romano, James Corden and of course Elmo and the Sesame Street gang.

    Love Life

    Anna Kendrick stars in this anthology romantic comedy series about the journey from first love to last love, and how the people we’re with along the way make us into who we are when we finally end up with someone forever.

    Raised by Wolves

    From the mind of Ridley Scott, Raised by Wolves centres upon two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet.

    Flight Attendant

    Starring Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory), a flight attendant awakens in a Dubai hotel room to find her one-night-stand dead beside her. Could she have killed him? And, if not, who did?

    Doom Patrol (S2)

    The critically acclaimed DC series features a band of superpowered freaks, part support group, part superhero team, who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.

    Made for Love

    A series adaptation based on the tragicomic novel of the same name. Starring Cristin Milioti and Ray Romano, Made for Love is a dark, absurd and cynically poignant story of divorce and revenge.

    Generation

    Executive produced by Lena Dunham and Ben Barnz, Generation is a dark yet playful half-hour following a group of high school students. It tests deeply-entrenched beliefs about life, love and the nature of family in their conservative community.

    The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo

    Sesame Street’s Elmo is the host of his very own talk show! He’s going to bring you some (not-too-late) fun with an all-new celeb-studded series that celebrates bedtime routines. Guests include Lil Nas X, the Jonas Brothers, Ciara, Blake Lively, Sofia Carson, John Mulaney, Olivia Wilde and John Oliver.

    Starring Melissa McCarthy, this film tells the story of Carol Peters, to whom nothing extraordinary ever happens. But the world’s first super-intelligence has selected her for observation, taking over her life…with a more ominous plan to take over everything.

    MUMBAI: Horror flicks never go out of fashion. And, if it has ghosts with a funny bone, you are in for a treat. Sony Pix is all set to premiere the cult Ghost-comedy film Ghostbusters on 26 February at 1 pm and 9 pm.

    A laughter riot, the supernatural film is directed by the comedy master Paul Feig.

    With a slew of talented actors like Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth the film has no dull moments.

    Physicists Abby Yates (McCarthy) and Erin Gilbert (Wiig), co-authors of a research book on paranormal phenomena come together to solve a paranormal investigation .It is then that they witness a whole new world of paranormal beings hell bent to unleash a catastrophic apocalypse. Will the Ghostbusters be able to save the city?

    CAA signs Genesis Rodriguez to their illustrious client list

    MUMBAI: Los Angeles headquartered Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has recently signed actress Genesis Rodriguez. CAA, a prominent entertainment and sports agency boasts Hollywood‘s numerous famous entertainment-industry clients.

    Rodriguez last appeared in the hit comedy Identity Thief with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, while also appearing alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand released earlier this year.

    She also played leading roles in the Summit thriller Man on a Ledge and Will Ferrell‘s Casa de mi Padre.

    Rodriguez, the daughter of famous Venezuelan singer Jose Luis Rodriguez, started her career in telenovelas, starring in Prisionera in 2004 and Dona Barbara, a Spanish-language telenovela.

    She was previously at Institute of Commercial Management, the leading professional body for Commercial and Business Development Managers (ICM).

    Rodriguez continues to be represented by Ivan de Paz of DePaz Management and Karl Austen and Robert Koch of Jackoway Tyerman.

    Die Hard sequel grosses $ 37 million in four day

    MUMBAI: Bruce Willis‘ A Good Day to Die Hard came below expectations to find itself in a relatively close race with the Nicholas Sparks film adaptation Safe Haven and Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief.

    20th Century Fox‘ Die Hard grossed $29.3 million in the four-day holiday period putting its five-day debut at $37.5 million. It is reported that the action film is faring much better overseas where it has earned more than $80 million.

    Universal‘s Identity Thief that teams McCarthy with Jason Bateman wasn‘t far behind Die Hard in North America and remained a potent competitor in its second weekend. It grossed $27.9 million for an 11-day domestic total of $75.1 million.

    Relativity Media‘s Safe Haven roped in $25.2 million in the weekend totaling a stellar five-day gross of $34 million, $10 million more than expected. The romantic drama came in No. 3.

    Animated 3D family entry Escape From Planet Earth, that opened last Friday grossed $21 million to come in at No. 4.

    Beautiful Creatures grossed $8.9 million. The movie has been placed at the No. 5 spot with $10.3 million in its third week for a total $51.5 million.

    Colin Farell to be honoured at pre-Oscar bash

    MUMBAI: 36-year-old Irish actor Colin Farrell will be honoured at the pre-Oscars bash next month.

    The Total Recall actor will be celebrated at the eighth annual Oscar Wilde: Honouring the Irish in Film party at in Santa Monica on 21 February 21, it is reported.

    Father-of-two, who won a Golden Globe award for his role in In Bruges in 2009, is one of a number of special honourees who will be celebrated at the prestigious event which has previously recognised the likes of Michelle Williams, Melissa McCarthy, Sarah Bolger, Saoirse Ronan and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

    The event has been created by the non-profit US-Ireland Alliance to recognise the contributions of the Irish in film and television and as a glitzy networking event.

    MUMBAI: Six actresses – Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig – from the comedy ‘Bridesmaids‘ will be presenters at the 84th Academy Awards, telecast producers Brian Grazer and Don Mischer announced.
     
    McCarthy received her first Oscar nomination this year for her supporting role in the film, and Wiig also became a first-time nominee for the film‘s original screenplay. All six will be making their first Oscar show appearances.
     
    The Academy Awards will air on Star Movies on 27 February. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries, including on ABC in the US.

    Boston critics name Brad Pitt as best actor

    MUMBAI: Boston critics voted Brad Pitt and Michelle Williams as best actor and actress. While Pitt was voted best actor for playing Oakland A‘s manager Billy Beane in Moneyball, Williams was named best actress for playing Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn.

    In the best supporting actor category, Albert Brooks was named as best supporting actor for Drive, while Melissa McCarthy was voted as best supporting actress for her role in Bridesmaids.

    Martin Scorsese was chosen best director for his 3D movie Hugo.
     
    The Moneyball team of Steven Zaillian, Aaron Sorkin and Stan Chervin picked up the screenwriting award.

    Other category wards are as follows: best cinematography, Emmanuel Lubeski, best documentary, The Tree of Life, best foreign language film James Marsh‘s Project Nim, best animated film, Dennis Villeneuve‘s Incendies, best filming editing, Christian Marclay in Rango and best new filmmaker, Sean Durkin.
