    MMTV launches Malayalam channel Mazhavil Manorama in HD

    MUMBAI: Malayala Manorama Group’s television network MMTV has launched the High Definition (HD) version of its Malayalam entertainment channel Mazhavil Manorama.

     

    With this, launch, MMTV now has a bouquet of four channels namely Manorama News, Mazhavil Manorama, Mazhavil Manorama HD and Mazhavil International for the Gulf region.

     

    With a strong content mix, Mazhavil Manorama HD’s FPC will currently be the same as the Standard Definition (SD) channel comprising reality shows, weekend mix, soaps.

    MUMBAI: In the south general entertainment channel (GEC) space, the Malayalam GEC genre has seen a growing trend. The genre rose by nine per cent recording 1,829 GRPs, up from 1,682 GRPs that it had registered in week 29.

     

    In the Malayalam GEC space during week 30 of TAM TV ratings, Asianet garnered a 13 per cent rise in its viewership registering 1,020 GRPs up from 901 GRPs. Surya captured the second position with a seven per cent rise in viewership with 272 GRPs up from 255 GRPs. Mazhavil Manorama slipped to third position from its second position last week with 268 GRPs, up from 257 GRPs. 

     

    In the Tamil GEC category, Sun TV registered 1,202 GRPs up from 1,178 GRPs. Vijay TV at the second spot garnered 376 GRPs down from 395 GRPs, whereas Z Tamil at number three managed 129 GRPs. 

     

    Maa TV has been on a growth path, witnessing a gain of 65 per cent in its viewership level in the Telugu GEC genre. The channel marked 599 GRPs, up from 363 GRPs. Z Telugu stood at number two with 565 GRPs, up from 555 GRPs, followed by Gemini, which scored 495 GRPs down from 551 GRPs. 

     

    In the Kannada GEC genre, Udaya TV witnessed a fall of 15 per cent in viewership and scored 410 GRPs down from 482 GRPs. On the other hand, Colors Kannada at number two reported 403 GRPs, up from 402 GRPs. Suvarna stood at number three with 280 GRPs up from 256 GRPs.

    MUMBAI: In the south general entertainment channel (GEC) space, it was the Malayalam GEC genre that saw maximum growth. The genre rose by seven per cent recording 1,682 GRPs, up from 1,568 GRPs that it had registered in week 28.

     

    In week 29 of TAM TV ratings, Asianet garnered around four per cent of its viewership levels registering 901 GRPs, up from 866 GRPs. Mazhavil Manorama captured the second position with 257 GRPs, down from 259 GRPs. While, Surya TV garnered 29 per cent of growth recording 255 GRPs, up from 198 GRPs.

     

    To achieve its average threshold level in week 29, Tamil GEC genre observed the second slot in the category. Despite shedding numbers, Sun TV continued to dominate the chart with 1178 GRPs, down from 1201 GRPs. Sun TV’s fall was Vijay TV and Z Tamil’s gain. The channels notes 395 GRPs, up from 341 GRPs and 129 GRPs, up from 125 GRPs at number two and third respectively.

     

    Z Telugu has been on a growing trend and witnessed a rise of eight per cent in viewership levels with a leading position in the Telugu GEC genre. The channel marked 555 GRPs, up from 512 GRPs. Gemini garnered second position from its third spot last week with a rise of 13 per cent in viewership levels. It scored 551 GRPs, up from 489 GRPs followed by ETV with 426 GRPs, up from 402 GRPs at number three.

     

    Kannada GEC genre stood at the bottom most position with 1,441 GRPs, down from 1,445 GRPs. Udaya TV witnessed a minimal rise in viewership and scored 482 GRPs, up from 471 GRPs. On the other hand, Colors Kannada at number two reported 402 GRPs, down from 421 GRPs. Suvarna stood at number three with 256 GRPs, up from 253 GRPs.

    MUMBAI: In week 28 of TAM TV ratings, Kannada was the only general entertainment channel (GEC) genre to witness a six per cent growth in viewership levels compared to last week. 

     

    Udaya TV garnered a rise of 12 per cent with 471 GRPs, up from 421 GRPs. Colors Kannada at number two, observed a growth by five per cent in viewership levels with 421 GRPs, up from 399 GRPs. Suvarna TV maintained its third slot with 253 GRPs, down from 248 GRPs.

     

    All other GECs witnessed a drop in viewership levels. 

     

    Despite shedding numbers and witnessing a six per cent drop in the viewership, Sun TV from the Tamil genre was the top contributor with 1201 GRPs, down from 1277 GRPs. Vijay TV noted a drop of seven per cent drop and registered 341 GRPs, down from 366 GRPs. Z Tamil stood at number three with 125 GRPs, down from 128 GRPs. 

      
    Overall, the Malayalam GEC genre witnessed a drop of five per cent in viewership levels in this week. Asianet was the most affected channel with seven per cent drop in viewership levels. It reported 866 GRPs, down from 928 GRPs. Mazhavil Manorama at number two recorded 259 GRPs, down from 266 GRPs. Lastly, Survya TV observed 198 GRPs, down from 205 GRPs at number three.

     

    The Telugu GEC genre witnessed a drop of four per cent in viewership levels in week 28. Z Telugu witnessed a growth of four per cent in viewership levels and garnered leading position among the Telugu GEC genre. It noted 512 GRPs, up from 493 GRPs. Maa TV secured the second position with a drop of three per cent in viewership levels and registered 494 GRPs, down from 508 GRPs. Gemini dropped to the third spot from its leading position with a seven per cent fall in the viewership and recorded 486 GRPs, down from 521 GRPs.

    MUMBAI: The regional genre observed maximum traction coming from the Tamil general entertainment channel (GEC) space in the week 27 of TAM TV ratings. The genre witnessed a rise of 2 per cent in viewership levels in this week.

     

    Registering a 4.5 per cent rise in the viewership level from the previous week, Sun TV was the top contributor of the genre as it registered 1,277 GRPs, up from 1,221 GRPs. Vijay TV spotted the second position with 366 GRPs, up from 346 GRPs followed by Z Tamil which noted 128 GRPs, up from 124 GRPs.

     

    Overall Malayalam GEC genre witnessed a rise of 7 per cent in viewership levels in this week. Asianet and Mazhavil Manorama were the major contributors with 4 per cent and 19 per cent rise respectively. Asianet at number one reported 928 GRPs, up from 890 GRPs followed by Mazhavil Manorama which registered 266 GRPs; up from 224 GRPs. Surya TV garnered the third spot with 205 GRPs, up from 196 GRPs.

     

    In the Telugu space, Maa TV dropped to the second spot from its leading position with a drop of 8 per cent in viewership, this week. Gemini with 521 GRPs took the leading position with a rise of 3 per cent in viewership levels.  Maa TV recorded 508 GRPs, down from 555 GRPs. Z Telugu stood at number three with 493 GRPs, up from 460 GRPs.

     

    Lastly, the Kannada GEC category has maintained its viewership threshold level with a minimal drop this week. Udaya TV garnered 5 per cent rise in viewership this week when compared to last week and registered 421 GRPs, up from 402 GRPs. Colors Kannada spotted the second position with 399 GRPs, down from 404 GRPs. Suvarna TV maintained its third slot with 248 GRPs, down from 251 GRPs.

    Maa TV dominates Telegu GEC genre, Asianet stands out in Malayalam space: TAM

    MUMBAI: Maa TV has maintained its dominance in week 26 too in the Telugu general entertainment channel (GEC) genre, despite a drop in viewership. The channel which garnered 616 GRPs in week 25 witnessed a decline and registered 545 GRPs. On the other hand, second placed Gemini managed to secure a slight gain as the viewership grew from 504 GRPs to 506 GRPs.
     

    In Tamil GEC genre, Sun TV stood tall in the pole position with 1221 GRPs followed by Vijay with 346 GRPs.

     

    In the Kannada region, Colors Kannada registered 403.9 GRPs and dethroned Udaya (401 GRPs) to grab the pole position.  

     

    In the Malayalam GEC genre Asianet again proved that it hardly has any competition. With 890 GRPs the channel comfortably sat on the fist position in TAM TV ratings. Asianet was followed by Mazhavil Manorama with 223.6 GRPs

    Malayalam channel Mazhavil Manorama to launch non-fiction show

    MUMBAI: Manorama Group’s Malayalam satellite channel Mazhavil Manorama will be launching a new reality show titled Made for Each Other. The reality show, which is being shot completely in Malaysia, will be the first of its kind reality show format being introduced to Malayalam television audience.

     

    The show will be hosted by actress Abhirami. The new show will be replacing the on-going reality show Ugram Ujjwalam, which reaches its grand finale on 10 May.

     

    The show revolves around newly-married couples from diverse backgrounds competing with each other in various challenges and fun tasks to become the grand winner. They will face daring and lifestyle challenges individually and in groups. The objective of the show is to push the couples out of their comfort zone so that their relationship evolves through the show to a better level.

     

    Mazhavil Manorama will begin airing the show from Monday, 11 May, 2015. Made For Each Other is scheduled to air from Monday to Thursday at 8 pm.

    Mazhavil Manorama to launch new fiction show ‘Manjurugumkaalam’ from 16 Feb

    BENGALURU: Malayalam GEC Mazhavil Manorama will start airing a new fiction show from Monday to Friday called Manjurugumkaalam starting 16 Februray, 2015 at 7.30 pm. The new show replaces Aniyathi, which had run for 150 plus episodes. The channel says that it hopes to tighten up its prime-time offering with a couple of new launch and firm up the no 2 position in the Malayalam GEC market.

     

    Manjurugumkaalam has been written by Joycee and is being directed by Binu Vallathooval for the production house Rohini Vision. Another popular show by the same production house also written by Joycee – Amala had a 416 episode run.

     

    The story is based out of one of the most followed Manorama Weekly novels says the channel. The tale revolves around Janikutty, and her struggles as an adopted kid on the death of her mother. Janikkutty’s life becomes agonising and filled with hardships when her adoptive mother Ratnamma delivers her own baby. Her own father takes her back after he realises the sufferings of his daughter. On growing up Janikkutty gets elected as Member of Legislative Assembly and later becomes a powerful minister and takes revenge against those who harassed her from childhood. The saga is interspaced with her struggles to fulfil her teenage love affair.

     

    Earlier, the channel had started airing another daily fiction show Dathuputhri on 2 February in the 9 to 9.30 pm slot that replaced Amala. Dathuputhri is also a story of village girl Kanmani, an adopted child that has been directed by A M Nazeer and also features movie actor Risa Bhava as her father. Kanmani, the lone survivor of a landslide gets adopted by the state government, reaches the family of District Collector Nandakishore and Hema, who had lost their daughter. The furtive re-appearance of their lost girl, Meenu makes things take an abrupt turn for Kanmani.

     

    “Our motive is to set new standards in fiction with both new serials. Dathuputri is saga of human resistance and triumph in face of adverse circumstances. Manjurugumkalam will take the viewers through the life of an adopted girl child. The story revolves around her struggles of being an innocent adopted kid. Despite of her hardship she fights back to become a strong personality,” asserts Mazhavil Manorama chief of programmes Jude Attipetty.
