Aur Gangster have already thought of a sequel to the film, likely to go on the floors early next year.

Though Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster released a week after the Shahid Kapoor-Sonam Kapoor-starrer Mausam (23 Sept), the film made box office magic elbowing out the latter.

Commenting on the sequel, producer Sunil Bohra said: “We never expected this kind of appreciation for Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster. We’ve decided to launch a sequel right away. Why wait? At the moment, the excitement is fresh for both the crew and the audience.”

Mausam collects Rs 410 million in opening weekend

MUMBAI: Integrated film studio, Eros International Media, said Monday Mausam has grossed Rs 410 million in its opening weekend.

Released on 23 September, the film has collected Rs 335 million in India (net collection is Rs 235 million) and Rs 750 million overseas.

Starring Shahid Kapur and Sonam Kapoor, Mausam released across 2,000-plus screens worldwide with a combination of prints and digital screens. Co-funded by partners Vistaar Religare Film Fund, Mausam has become Kapur‘s biggest opener so far.

The television premiere of the film will be on Sahara‘s general entertainment channel and the content licensing deal was struck on the basis of minimum guarantee and then a potential uplift based on the box office performance of the film, ensuring Eros maximises its revenues if the film attracts audiences.

Mausam nets Rs 221 mn on box office

MUMBAI: Mausam, following bad reports, had an average opening weekend. The Pankaj Kapur-directed movie collected Rs 221 million on strength of multiplexes with single screen collections not being up to mark.

The drop has been noticed with the start of the new week.

Meanwhile, the box office collections of two other releases, Rivaaz and Jaana Pehchana, remained very poor.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan benefited in its second-week run due to no opposition as it added Rs 168 million to its first week collections of Rs 378 million. The two-week net collection of the film is Rs 546 million.

Salman Khan-starrer Bodyguard collected Rs 90 million in its third week, taking its three-week total box office collection to Rs 1.45 billion.

Mausam to now release on 23 September

MUMBAI: The release of Eros International and Vistaar Religare‘s Mausam has been postponed for a 23 September release. The film was to release this Friday.

Eros International COO Ram Mirchandani said, “The release of Mausam has indeed been delayed. It happened because we couldn‘t get the prints that were meant for the overseas circuit in time. Hence we thought it better to defer the release by a week.”

Explaining the reason in detail, Pankaj Kapur stated, “Going by reports that an entire 30-second sequence has to be deleted, let me clearly say that only a minor correction had to be made in that particular sequence as it was going against the norms of the IAF keeping the National security in mind.

Since it was a CG generated sequence, it took us time to carry out the correction. And after we got the sequence right, the Censor Board wanted to again review the film. Just yesterday, the Board cleared the film and gave an ‘U‘ certificate.”

Intervening, Shahid Kapoor added, “We could have released the film in India, but since we wanted the film to have a worldwide release and because we couldn‘t secure the overseas prints, we deferred the release of the film by a week.

This gives us one more week for the promotion of the film both domestically and internationally. And one more thing that we hope will go in our favour is that in the next two weeks there would be no film worth the mention to give Mausam a fight.”

As is already known, Mausam was to have its world premiere at the recently concluded Toronto Film Festival. But since the makers couldn‘t get the Censor Board certificate, the film was pulled out from the lineup.

  • IAF jolts Mausam release

    IAF jolts Mausam release

MUMBAI: Looks like the Shahid Kapoor starrer Mausam has been mired by controversies.

First, it was the cow scene that made the Censor Board to stop the exhibition of the film‘s promo. And now the Indian Air Force (IAF) has objected to certain action scenes in the film, in which the actor essays the role of a fighter pilot.

The IAF has raised objection to an action scene in the film and has held back the No Objection Certificate (NOC) until the changes are made. Unless the IAF grants this film an NOC, the Censor Board will not accept it for review.

However, producer Sheetal Talwar said this would not be possible at this late hour because it would require a re shoot and also affect the plot.

While the IAF refused to discuss the details of their objection, spokesperson Wing Commander Gerard Galway said the change they sought was minor. “We have objected to only about 30 seconds of the film. Pankaj Kapoor has otherwise done a wonderful job of portraying an IAF officer and the entire movie is authentic.”

Galway said that they had a healthy discussion with the director and producer over the objectionable part. “They were very gracious and agreed to do something about it. Once the scene is rectified, the NOC will be granted.”

A love story starring Shahid and Sonam Kapoor, the film is scheduled to hit the screens on 16 September.
