    Senior TV journalist Marya Shakil exits NDTV

    MUMBAI: Senior news anchor and executive editor (National Affairs) Marya Shakil has bid adieu to NDTV. The network confirmed the development exclusively.

    Known for her powerful presentation, commanding voice, and distinctive anchoring style, Shakil had joined NDTV 24×7 in August 2023 as Executive Editor (National Affairs). At the time, the move was seen as a significant new chapter in her illustrious journalism career.

    Before her NDTV stint, Shakil spent nearly 18 years with CNN-News18, where she served as Senior Political Editor and Special Bureau Chief. Starting her career with the channel in 2005, she covered some of the country’s biggest political events from the frontlines and conducted exclusive interviews with several top political leaders.

    Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism. Her show NewsEpicentre has also bagged multiple honours . In 2016, she was awarded the Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship.

    Originally from Bihar, Shakil holds a postgraduate degree in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi.

    CNN-News18 and News18 India bring Special Programming for Karnataka Election

    New Delhi, 19th April, 2018: Termed as the big battle between the BJP and the Congress ahead of the General Election in 2019, the upcoming Assembly Election in Karnataka are witnessing high-decibel campaigns from both the parties. As the southern state prepares for the Elections, CNN-News18 and News18 India have lined-up exclusive programming focusing on the blazing battle to keep the viewers updated with all the developments on ground.

    ‘Battle for Karnataka’, the programming on CNN-News18, will not only comprise of election specific programming such as Poll of Polls, Reporters Project, Campaign Trail but will also include special episodes of primetime shows – Viewpoint, Face-Off Tonight, and News Epicentre hosted by Executive Editor Bhupendra Chaubey, Deputy Executive Editor Zakka Jacob and Political Editor Marya Shakil, respectively, right from Ground Zero, featuring local voices reflecting issues impacting people’s choices.     Continuing with the same, the channel has launched a new show ‘Epicentre @ 7’. Co-hosted by award-winning journalists, Senior Editor Shreya Dhoundial and Deputy Political Editor Marya Shakil, Epicentre @ 7 goes between the faultlines and beyond the headlines to cut through the big story of the day. Catch Epicentre @ 7, weeknights at 7 PM on CNN-News18.

    Epicentre @ 7 concentrates heavily on biggest news of the day, articulating the alternative idea which generally gets lost in the heat and noise of daily debates. The show talks to young and fresh voices across the social and political spectrum who are fearless and disregard political correctness, to get their opinion. The show includes not just Delhi-centric news but also puts the spotlight on the North-East and South India curating headlines, stories, and opinions to bring out the big picture.

    ‘Trending Truth’, a special segment towards the end of the show showcases trending videos or messages of the day with an aim to distinguish facts from fiction.

    CNN-IBN bags 3 journalism awards at the Ramnath Goenka

    MUMBAI: CNN-IBN has bagged 3 awards at the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards at a grand ceremony held on 23 November 2015 at ITC Maurya in New Delhi.

     

    The senior editor of the channel, Karma Paljor roped the award in the category of on the spot reporting for his coverage of Cyclone Phailin in the year 2013. The bureau chief of Bengaluru, Deepa Balakrishnan, was awarded in the category of reporting on politics and government for exposing the nexus between mining and politics against the backdrop of the impending elections in the state. Senior associate editor, Marya Shakil has bagged the award in the reporting on politics and government category for her outstanding coverage of the General Elections 2014. 

     

    The awardees were felicitated by the chief guest – honorable minister of finance, corporate affairs and information and broadcasting, Arun Jaitley.
