The hour-long programme will be aired at 9.30 pm on 5 October by all capital AIR stations, all multi-channel stations, all FM Gold & FM Rainbow channels and Local Stations.

The first broadcast of Mann Ki Baat was on 3 October last year.

The programme has been conceptualised by AIR Delhi as a platform for myriad voices, ranging from the remotest outpost of the country to the heart of its capital to a diaspora viewpoint.

It is scheduled under the National Programme of Talks (Hindi), a weekly programme of talks and discussions on the National Channel.

An AIR spokesman told Indiantelevision.com, “We are hopeful of presenting a bouquet of authentic voices from the rustic farmer in this attempt to reflect with authenticity what the public really expects from its Prime Minister. The aim is to cull out the areas that people want the Prime Minister to focus on. This programme will have elements of various radio formats such as Phone-in, Radio-Bridge, Vox populi etc. to showcase a participatory audio asset.”

The broadcast of the programme will be followed by a survey to be carried out by 46 units of Audience Research Units of AIR located at different places to cover varied linguistic and geographical zones of India. This, AIR hopes, will accurately gauge the impact of one year of continuous personal contact of the Prime Minister with his people through various modes of dissemination.

Mann Ki Baat has once again connected people with the radio and made them realise its importance for such a vast country that resides not only in metros and cities but in remote corners of the villages and tribal areas, where satellite television channels are yet to reach.

In its endeavour to maximise the reach of the programme, AIR relays it in all regional languages apart from Hindi, Urdu and also in large number of dialects spoken in remote parts of India.

Mann Ki Baat thus has the vastest disseminated broadcast and reaches over 99 per cent of India’s population through multifarious avenues as DTH, live streaming, mobile applications, terrestrial as well as satellite channels.

In addition to the programme slated for tonight, AIR broadcast Mann Ki Baat: Aatmiya Samvaad Ka Ek Varsh, which was a special edition of its much acclaimed programme Post Box 111, which is based on the unprecedented inflow of letters/mails from listeners to AIR as part of the first anniversary. The special programme was a recap of all episodes of both Mann Ki Baat and Post Box 111.

Post Box 111 is broadcast every Sunday at 11 am on FM Rainbow Network and the medium wave national hook-up.

Election Commission rejects demand to cancel Modi’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ before Bihar polls

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has rejected a demand by the Congress and its alliance partners seeking a ban on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast on All India Radio slated for 20 September.

The Congress said it could be used to directly influence the outcome of the Bihar Assembly elections. The Commission said it would take action if parts of the programme were found to be in violation of the model code of conduct now in place in Bihar.

A senior official of the Commission said, “No blanket ban can be enforced on the broadcast or Cabinet meetings. But the EC can take cognisance if the Cabinet decision or the content of programme is in violation of the model code of conduct.”

A delegation comprising leaders from the Congress, the Janata Dal (U) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal had met the chief Election Commissioner on the issue.

  • UP Transport Department asks ASCI to enforce responsible advertising in auto sector

UP Transport Department asks ASCI to enforce responsible advertising in auto sector

MUMBAI: The Uttar Pradesh Department of Transport has approached The Advertising Standard Council of India (ASCI) for taking action against automotive advertisements that depict violation of traffic rules.

Through a letter, Transport & Road Safety commissioner K. Ravindra Naik has strongly backed ASCI for its efforts in promoting responsible advertising and has requested the industry body to instruct advertising agencies to adhere to the self-regulatory code.

Early in July, highlighting the recent incident of a road accident in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 10th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme also focused on the importance of road safety in the country. He said, “It is the duty of every family to inform youngsters about the importance of road safety rules.”

“According to the statistics of road accidents in the country, every four minutes a person dies in a road accident and around one – third of those dying in road accidents are between 15 and 25 years of age. It is the need of hour on creating awareness of road safety across the country as also through the manner in which advertisements depict responsible driving,” he added.

ASCI chairman Narendra Ambwani said, “ASCI has been very proactive on the subject of advertisements for Automotive Vehicles and came up with a specific guideline in April 2008. Chapter III.3 of the ASCI’s Self-Regulatory code prescribes that ‘Advertisements shall not, without justifiable reason, show or refer to dangerous practices or manifest a disregard for safety or encourage negligence.’ We welcome this move by the Department of Transport, Uttar Pradesh for discouraging depiction of rash and unsafe driving. We hope each state in the country will also take effective measure to encourage responsible advertising and promote road safety.”

The Department of Transport, Uttar Pradesh has also requested ASCI to ask advertising agencies to take effective measures to follow the said guidelines and to blacklist the agencies that do not comply with ASCI’s recommendations. The State Transport Authorities of UP has also written to all District Magistrates in the state to take action in this matter.

According to self–regulation guidelines on advertisements for automotive vehicles, advertisers are encouraged to depict advertisements in a manner, which promotes safe practices, e.g. wearing helmets and fastening of seatbelts, not using mobile phones when driving etc. The advertisements should not portray violations of any traffic rules, should not show speeding or manoeuvrability in a manner which encourages unsafe or reckless driving, which could harm the driver, passengers and / or the general public, or show stunts or actions which require professional driving skills, in normal traffic conditions which, in any case, should carry a readable cautionary message drawing viewers’ attention to the depiction of stunts.
