    NFDC Film Bazaar ’13 Calls for Entries for Work-in-Progress Lab and Viewing Room

    MUMBAI, Friday, 06 September, 2013: Film Bazaar 2013, the promotional arm of NFDC (National Film Development Corporation), announces today, the call for entries for its the Work-in-Progress (WIP) Lab and Viewing Room programs. The submission deadline for entries is September 30th 2013. South Asia’s Global Film Market, will see its seventh edition this year, held from November 20-24, 2013 at the Goa Marriott Resort alongside the International Film Festival of India 2013.

    In the WIP Lab five projects in their rough cut stage are selected to be presented to a panel of international film experts for their feedback. Feature length films and documentaries at the rough cut stage are invited to apply.

    The Viewing Room aims at presenting films seeking finishing funds, world sales, distribution partners & film festivals to investors, world sales agents and film festival programmers. Films of all genres and lengths in rough or final cut are invited to apply. Here films are viewed on individual computer terminals in private booths. These terminals provide details of the film as well as contact the director or producer.

    The films that were a part of the previous Work-in-Progress Labs have had their world premier at leading international films festivals and some even successful theatrical releases.

    India’s Manjeet Singh to pitch for funds for film at Cannes

    New Delhi: Two projects from Asia including one from India are among the 15 new works selected to take part in this year‘s Atelier, part of the Cannes Film Festival‘s Cinefondation.

    Ciao Ciao by Song Chuan from China and Chenu by filmmaker Manjeet Singh from India will be participating, though full details will be announced next month.

    The aim of the exercise is to bring about creative films and encourage a new generation of talent all over the world. It offers its participants access to international co-production.

    So far, 83 projects have been completed out of 126 projects presented over the last eight years and 29 are currently in pre-production.

    ‘Miss Lovely’ adjudged best film at MAMI

    Mumbai: In the newly introduced competition section for Indian feature films called ‘India Gold‘ at the MAMI film festival, director Ashim Ahluwalia‘s Miss Lovely was adjudged as the best film.

    The film also won the Reliance Media Works‘ CreaTech (Creativity & Technology) award. The 14th Mumbai Film Festival organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) concluded with an awards ceremony.

    Miss Lovely, a Hindi feature film set in the lower depths of Bombay‘s C grade film industry follows the devastating story of two brothers who produced sleazy horror films in the mid-1980s.

    Hansal Mehta‘s real life drama Shahid won the runner-up award for best film. The special jury award was given to Manjeet Singh for his film Mumbai Cha Raja‘.

    The Festival also honoured veteran actress Waheeda Rehman with the Lifetime Achievement Award for an Indian personality. She was presented the award by noted filmmaker and MAMI chairman Shyam Benegal. “I am thrilled to receive this award from MAMI. I dedicate it to the directors, producers, co-actors, technicians who have been a part of this journey with me,” the actress remarked after accepting the honour,” the actress averred.

    Meanwhile, in the International Competition category for the first feature films of directors, AquY Alla (Here And There) was recognised as the best film. Dwight Henry got the best actor award for Beasts of the Southern Wild while the best actress award was given to Julia Garner for Electrick Children.

    The jury award of technical excellence was awarded to Pankaj Kumar for Ship Of Theseus while Musa Sayeed was given the special jury award for the film ‘Valley Of Saints. In the Celebrate Age category, Night Boats was adjudged the best film while ‘The Delay‘ was the runner-up. ‘Ping Pong received a special mention trophy by jury.

    Mumbai Cha Raja seeks crowd funding

    MUMBAI: The makers of Manjeet Singh‘s Mumbai Cha Raja, that is soon to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, are seeking funds through crowd funding for its completion. The money, which would be got through contribution, will be used for post-production and promotion of the film.

    Mumbai Cha Raja will be screened in City to City program of the festival. Manjeet Singh has been selected for the Toronto Talent Lab 2012, which would be held alongside the festival.

    Mumbai Cha Raja won the Prasad Award in Work in Progress Lab at Film Bazaar 2011. It was also selected for Producer‘s Lab in Cinemart at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2012.

    Manjeet Singh’s Mumbai Cha Raja to show at Toronto fest

    MUMBAI: Indian independent filmmaker Manjeet Singh‘s participation in the Toronto Talent Lab 2012, to be held alongside the Toronto International Film Festival, has been confirmed.

    Manjeet Singh‘s debut feature Mumbai Cha Raja (The King of Mumbai) will screen in the City-to-City programme of the fest.

    Talent Lab is led by four governors who mentor participants, guiding them through the sessions with guest speakers. Two of this year‘s confirmed governors include producer Stephen Woolley and documentary filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal.

    Now in its ninth year, Talent Lab is an intensive four-day artistic development programme.
