    Reliance Entertainment Digital has its eye on English entertainment content

    Reliance Entertainment Digital CEO Manish Agarwal is pretty excited about his company’s date with MipCom this year.  Says he:  “We want to understand the market and its offering and how relevant it is for the digital business. We are always in search of some interesting and innovative content.” 

    For Agarwal, who is into content publishing, participation in Mipcom is likely to become an integral part of doing business, though his company is participating in it for the first time.
    “It gives us an opportunity to explore the large variety of content which we need for the various platforms like BigFlix, Zapak etc. We will obviously focus on networking with more content providers and aggregators across the globe,” says he.

     Reliance Entertainment Digital which launched its over the top (OTT) service BigFlix last year is sorted in terms of Indian programming and now wants add on international content in more genres and languages.

     “We want to expand our offerings to the consumer. Participating in Mipcom will help us explore more opportunities,” he says.

     Agarwal says that an increasing group of young Indian consumers is gorging on digitised content on hand held devices and on their PCs. “It is essential for Indian service providers to experiment with new type of content across genres and content-types. And it is just not that Indians will consume only trailers or paparazzi content, they will also look at different content and so we want to explore with a variety of content,” he highlights.

     The focus this year at Mipcom he emphasises will be on acquiring entertainment content – especially that which originates from English speaking nations or with English subtitles.
    “This will be entertainment for English speaking audiences, entertainment for masses and for kids. This is the reason we are going not only for Mipcom, but also for Mip Junior,” he informs.

    For those visiting Mipcom to sell gaming content, expect the Reliance Entertainment 

    representative at your stall. “We will also look at gaming content or gaming IPs on which games can be created. So we are aiming at kids entertainment both in gaming and VOD content which caters to everyone or in niche segments in the country,” says he. “In terms of gaming IPs, since we are present across the globe, we will go for any IP which is popular. So we will be hunting for any IP across different markets in order to get a license to create mobile games

     The OTT service which delivers its content online to connected devices – a la NetFlix in the US – is looking at stacking up its video-on-demand (VOD) menu. “This can subsume movies-on-demand, TV-serials-on-demand and animations-on-demand. And for gaming again we are looking at the mobile platforms.”

    And the company is shopping cheque book in hand. So sellers will indeed be kept busy by this emerging digital giant from India.

    Mumbai: In a bid to expand its global presence, Reliance Big Entertainment‘s Reliance Games has acquired a mobile game development and publishing company in Japan and a mobile game development studio in Korea.

    The recent ingress of Reliance Games into Japan and Korea will play a pivotal role in the company’s international roadmap. According to the company, the Japanese and Korean business set-ups give Reliance Games direct access to the two largest mobile gaming markets known to the world.

    The company aims to adopt a two pronged approach for the new set-ups; while the Japanese and Korean facilities will develop IPs targeted to local consumers, they will in future also be responsible for R&D of multi-player mobile games for the western markets.

    In Tokyo, Japan, Reliance Big Entertainment has through its subsidiary Reliance Big Entertainment Japan fully acquired the gaming division of Funnel Japan along with its team and all the IPs under development and has created Reliance Games Japan. The company in Japan will be responsible for development and publishing of games for the local market.

    In Busan, Korea, Reliance Big Entertainment Japan has bought a majority stake of 51 per cent in the gaming studio Bluesom. As a part of the deal, the company has also acquired a few IPs.

With this acquisition in Japan and Korea Reliance Games has made inroads into the world’s largest mobile gaming markets and looks forward to tap the 5.5 Bln USD and 1.3 Bln USD mobile gaming markets of Japan and Korea respectively.”

    “Investment in the development studio at Busan, Korea and in the distribution team at Tokyo, Japan will enable us to develop games for local markets instead of trying to force fit western games in these markets. I have full confidence on teams at Korea and Japan to establish Reliance Games as a very innovative and successful gaming brand,” Agarwal added.

    Reliance Games VP-Global Studios Eric Marlow said, “The Company’s expansion into the Japanese and Korean markets is significant and strategic. We see now a clear path that allows us product and development capacity in both countries. We are extremely excited by the new capabilities added to our team and we think our customers will enjoy the games we are preparing for them.”

    The company has brought on board Hwa Seok Choi in the role of chief revenue officer for Reliance Games Japan.

    Reliance Games will be launching three games in the ‘social card game’ and ‘real time strategy game’ categories, on feature phones and smart devices in the next three quarters in Japan and Korea. Apart from these new games, Reliance Games will also be launching its Hollywood IP based games localised for these markets.

    The company has also created mobile games for IPs like Real Steel, Total Recall, F1 2011, Mirror Mirror and Electric City.

    Mumbai: Reliance Entertainment Digital, which runs two gaming brands Jump Games and Zapak Digital Entertainment under its portfolio, is consolidating its gaming business under the brand name ‘Zapak‘.

    With this, Jump Games, a developer and publisher of mobile games, apps and content, will be re-branded and re-christened as Zapak Mobile Games.

    Reliance Entertainment Digital aims to leverage synergies between each of the gaming verticals and create a unified brand entity for its gaming operations with this move.

    The integrated brand, Zapak, will now reach out to over 20 million gamers across the globe who would be able to access nearly 2000 games on the Mobile and Web, the company said.

    Post the re-structure, Zapak Digital Entertainment will operate three business verticals: Zapak Solutions, Zapak Online & WAP Portal, and Zapak Mobile Games.

    Zapak Solutions will specialise in providing Advergaming and Gamification solutions to brands across mobile and online platforms worldwide. Zapak Online and WAP Portal offers free casual games on web and mobile via its platforms – zapak.com & m.zapak.com while Zapak Mobile Games develops and publishes games across platforms for its Indian and global audiences.

    MUMBAI: BIGFLIX.com has announced that its latest offering Jism 2, will be available to viewers from 16 August.

    Jism 2, the film which hit theatres in India on 3 August, is positioned as the film to have boldly broken through India‘s stodgy old Victorian morals. Directed by Pooja Bhatt, the espionage thriller involves assassination, sex, intrigue and the surprise element of double jeopardy. The film, that stars Randeep Hooda, Arunoday Singh, marks the debut of Sunny Leone in Bollywood.
