    Subhash Ghai to get Lifetime Achievement Award at Delhi International Filmfest

    NEW DELHI: Even as the entries for the third edition of the Delhi International Film Festival (DIFF), to be held in December this year, were called for, one thing which is clear is that versatile showman Subhash Ghai will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Festival.

     

    The Minar-e-Dilli Award is proposed to be presented to Ghazal Maestro Gulam Ali, and Pakistan is expected to be the partner country for the festival to be held from 20-27 December.

     

    DIFF 2014 is an initiative by “The Social Circle, A Society for Cause and – A step toward inclusiveness” to showcase the best of Cinema, Art and Literature from across the globe.

     

    Started in 2012, the advisory board for this festival is headed by Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Working closely with him are some of the greats of Indian Cinema including the national award winning directors Tigmanshu Dhulia, Anurag Kashyap and Anooj Kapoor, Mohan Agashe, Manoj Bajpai, Mandira Bedi, Shriram Raghwan, Jimmy Shergill, N. Chandra, Sandeep Marwah, Shailesh Lodha, Yashpal Sharma and Arvind Gaur, apart from Satish Anand from Pakistan.

     

    Now in its third edition, the festival hopes to showcase 200 films from around 45 countries as against 170 in the previous years.

     

    The earlier editions also showcased 100 paintings and sculptures from India. The two editions also had a literature section with 100 NRI poets displaying their work at the venue. The second edition of the festival saw the addition of Fashion, Singing, Band events and Sufi night by Nizami Brothers, thus making DIFF the only festival in the world with so many sections and live events every evening during the seven days of the festival.

     

    The other events during the festival include ‘Band of the Year’ with participation of more than 25 bands from all over India; ‘Singer of the Year’, a tribute to Mohammed Rafi, ‘Face and Designer of the Year’, daily seminars and workshops and book launches on various aspects of cinema, art and literature.

     

     To promote cinema, art and culture, the festival has associated itself with French and Israeli Embassies in New Delhi along with HUNERKADAA, well known Visual Arts and Performance Institute and EVEREADY GROUP, one of the leading film distribution company from Pakistan.

    MUMBAI: It’s that time of the season, where one is merry and enjoys the warm and fluffy holiday feeling. True to the festive spirit, Nickelodeon kicked off its holiday programming with a month full of Christmas specials, including Motu Patlu Movie, Dora Live Theatrical, ‘Nick Lift your Gift’ contest, Christmas specific episodes and much more. To celebrate the festival in ‘Nick’ style, the stylish Mandira Bedi joined Nickelodeon to make Christmas even more ‘Nickdaar’!

    On the programming front, Nick is all set to air a ‘Christmas Special Episode’ of the awesome twosome Motu and Patlu on 25thDecember at 6 pm. Motu and Patlu take on another comic expedition, this time rescuing the ‘Real Santa Claus’ from the hands of the devil and bringing him to their home, Furfuri Nagariya. Adding to the celebration, Nick will premiere a Christmas special movie titled ‘Motu Patlu – Mission Moon’ on 25th December at 11am, where the duo travel to the moon to fight with the evil scientist who is proving to be dangerous to Mother Earth.

    To announce the Christmas specials, the hilarious duo staged a live theatrical performance in Mumbai. Enacting the Christmas episode with some rib-tickling antics, Motu Patlu also had the gorgeous mummy, Mandira Bedi, as the special guest at Furfuri Nagariya, who danced to the tunes of Motu Patlu theme song and joined the audience in the celebrations.

    MUMBAI: With seven weeks to go before the biggest sports event of the year the cricket World Cup kicks off Max is gearing up to create buzz around the event.

    Speaking to Indiantelevision.com Max business head Sneha Rajani says that Extraaa Innings the wrap around show kicks off at 5 pm on each match day. Since matches get over in the wee hours of the morning the pre show will start with a review of the previous match with the expert panel.

    It will then go on to previewing the upcoming match. This time around some matches will also air on the English movie channel Pix in case Max and Sab cannot accomodate them. Besides the first couple of Extraaa Innings Charu Sharma and Mandira Bedi the channel has commentators like Geoffrey Boycott, former Indian cricket coach John Wright who will provide an insider’s touch, Barry Richards and Ian Chappell. Max is also in the process of finding someone to send to the West Indies to join its commentary team with its Host Ka Dost hunt.

    Max has kicked off promotional activity for the World Cup with an on air campaign. The message is that one world will be converging in the West Indies to watch the event.

    The campaign is feel good and light in the spirit of the Caribbean which is known for its relaxed, fun atmosphere. From Friday a series of countdown spots will air to build anticipation. Rajani adds that no cricketers have been used. There will be calypso music to give viewers a feel of the upcoming event.

    On the ground the channel will conduct a roadshow next month. A van will visit 150 cities in a bid to get fans to express their support for the boys in blue. The winning placard will be sent to the Indian team. Rajani conceedes that the fact that matches finish late might impact viewing particularly for the non India games. The hope is that the matches will be involving enough so that viewers do not mind going to bed late even if the likes of Saurav and Sachin are not involved.

    The World Cup will be used to push Indian Idol 3 which is expected to kick off sometime in the May – June period on Sony. It will also push Max’s blockbusters which will kick off from May. Key shows on Sony and Sab will also be pushed.

    Pritish Nandy Communications to release ‘Meerabai Not Out’ early 2007

    MUMBAI: Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd has announced the start of filming of its forthcoming film titled Meerabai Not Out.

    The film is directed by Marathi director Chandrakant Kulkarni. The principal cast consists of Mandira Bedi, cricketer Anil Kumble, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anupam Kher and Eijaz Khan.

    The film will be shot in one straight schedule in Mumbai through December and January. The music will be scored by Sandesh Shandilya. The film’s release will be timed around the World Cup 2007.

    The title of the company’s upcoming film Honeymoon which is currently in its pre-release stage, has been changed to Just Married. The promos of the film starring Fardeen Khan, Esha Deol and Perizaad Zorabian amongst others are currently on air.

    MUMBAI: MTV India has announced the fourth edition of its style awards. The Lycra MTV Style Awards 2006 will be held on 14 October in Mumbai at the MMRDA Bandra Kurla Complex.

    After ‘Desi Cool’ in 2003, ‘Circus’ in 2004 and ‘Military’ in 2005, the theme this year is ‘Celebrating Style’. In keeping with the theme, this year’s function will feature an explosion of colour with the year’s chosen designers – Neeta Lulla, Ritu Kumar, JJ Valaya, and Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna presenting their lines.

    Creating exclusive designs solely for the event, each designer will team up with a music performer to present a fusion of fashion and music. Additionally, designer Suneet Verma has been assigned the task of creating a special line for the opening sequence that will set the tone for the evening.

    Divided into three broad categories – Popular, Technical and Honours, the Lycra MTV Style Awards 2006 will be presented to people in fashion, films, sports, television, business, politics and music. The nominees include actors Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta, singer Himesh Reshammiya and television host Mandira Bedi, among others.

    A change this year is that the event is being ramped up in terms of scale and size and will be held outdoors. Secondly, the size of the judging panel has been broadened to 29 (from eight). Additionally, this year’s awards are extending beyond Mumbai to two more cities – Kolkata and Bangalore.

    The Style Awards 2006 will also be promoted through an extensive campaign running across print, outdoor, on-air, mobile and online via mtvindia.com. Media partners on the event include Red FM and women’s lifestyle magazine Marie Claire.

    MUMBAI: Movies and events channel Max is back with its flagship on-ground activity Gully Cricket. Launching on 7 September, the initiative will kick off the channel’s promotional activities around the big ticket cricket property ICC Champions Trophy.

    Max brand ambassadors Mandira Bedi, Sameer Khan and the mascot Tiger Deewana will visit the cities of Hyderabad, Nagpur, Kolkata, Mangalore, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Amritsar, Ahmedabad and Lucknow between September 7 and September 30, 2006 to take the cricket fever from the lofty stadiums to the dingy bylanes.

    The fifth edition the Champions Trophy, which is being played in India for the first time, is scheduled for October 2006.
