    Soumak Banik returns to MediaCom as Indonesia MD

    Mumbai: WPP’s MediaCom has brought on board Soumak Banik as managing director for Indonesia, who returns after having served as chief growth officer at the firm for India & South Asia region until July this year. He will report to GroupM Indonesia CEO Himanshu Shekhar and MediaCom Asia Pacific CEO, Mark Heap.

    Banik succeeds Partha Kabi who recently took charge as global account director at MediaCom for SK-II and is now based in Singapore.

    On this succession move, media reports quoted Himanshu Shekhar as saying, “Kabi’s successor has big shoes to fill, and I am hugely excited to have Banik as the new leader for MediaCom Indonesia. His infectious enthusiasm and positivity will be crucial in building on the strong foundations.”

    Banik commands over 20 years of experience in conceptualisation, supporting communication, deriving & driving effective efficient marketing solutions across industries like FMCG, CSG, auto, luxury, telecom, e-commerce, BFSI, sports, publishing, and multiple brands. Prior to MediaCom, he was associated with Mindshare Indonesia as principal partner for three years until 2019.

    “The global momentum in MediaCom is so inspiring. Combining this with the assets we can leverage from GroupM globally, regionally and locally, makes me very confident that we can continue to drive growth for our clients, the careers of our people, and our business,” Banik said on his appointment.

    Mumbai: Channel Factory, the global brand suitability and YouTube measurement programme partner, has brought on board Alex Littlejohn as managing director (MD) to spearhead its growth in the APAC region.

    In his new role, Littlejohn will be responsible for growing the brand’s existing operations in Singapore and will be tasked with launching the business into the broader APAC region with local offices across SEA and Australia slated for launch in Q4 2021, said the press statement.

    Littlejohn has extensive experience in scaling adtech businesses having held the position of president international for Adconion Media Group for eight years where he was responsible for growing the team from a standing start to over 250 employees across eight European and four APAC markets. Following Adconion’s acquisition by Singtel (SGX), he served at Amobee as senior vice president for APAC.

    Dushyant Sapre moves on from Twitter-owned MoPub

    Mumbai: Dushyant Sapre, the MD for Japan and Asia Pacific of MoPub has quit the Twitter-owned company after a two-year stint. He was based in Twitter’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore.

    MoPub provides monetisation solutions for mobile app publishers and developers around the globe. Sapre, who joined the platform in September 2019, was responsible for running the Japan, Asia Pacific organisation with a strong focus on the mobile gaming vertical in China, Japan, and Korea.

    Sapre, in a LinkedIn post, said: “A month ago, I made the difficult decision to leave Twitter and MoPub, with today being my last day. It’s been an amazing 2-year journey, with an incredible group of #Tweeps. A couple of quarters into the job, the pandemic inflicted uncertainty wreaked havoc on our lives. I felt extremely fortunate to have been at Twitter: the sense of empowerment and support I got to lead my family, team, and self through the tough times was simply unparalleled and is something I will share with everyone and carry within for life. Thank you, Twitter!”

    Sapre gave an inkling of joining a new venture, without divulging details. “Starting next week, I am embarking on a new challenge: building a new business ground-up from 0 to 1, uprooting and moving to new geography in a few months, unlearning, learning, and proving myself all over again,” he wrote.

    Sapre was previously the managing director for APAC supply and global app partnerships at Criteo, and was a founding leader of the Criteo Singapore office since 2013. Over the past decade, he has advised app developers and digital publishers on maximising monetisation and online retailers on user acquisition and retention.

    Twitter executive Arvinder Gujral moves on after eight years

    Mumbai: Twitter managing director, SE Asia, and senior director-business development, APAC, Arvinder Gujral has quit the company after an eight-year stint.

    “After eight years it’s time to say goodbye to the Blue Bird. From helping set up Twitter India in 2013 and running APAC BD to pivoting the SEA team to become one of the fastest growing revenue and audience markets for Twitter globally it’s been an incredible ride,” Gujral said in a LinkedIn post.

    Gujral had joined the micro-blogging platform in 2013 as senior director-business development Asia Pacific. He was given the additional responsibility of leading SEA as MD in 2017. He launched the service in new markets in SEA besides expanding partnerships in the region with media companies, governments, agencies, and clients. He was also the founding member of Twitter India in 2013 where he helped set up India operations which today has three offices.

    Gujral is an executive leader commanding over 22 years of experience in internet, media, telecom, tech consulting, and advertising. Prior to Twitter, he was at Aircel where he launched the brand nationally. Gujral was previously associated with companies like Infosys, FCB Ulka and iGATE. His next move is still unknown.

    Genero onboards Subbaraju Alluri as MD for Asia

    Mumbai: Global creative platform Genero has announced the appointment of Subbaraju Alluri as managing director (MD) – Asia, based in Singapore.

    Alluri joins Genero less than a year after joining communications firm Redhill Communications after spending more than 19 years with Grey Group.

    According to Genero, Alluri will work closely with CEO and co-founder Andrew Lane, and the existing team in Asia to drive growth across the region. He is tasked with building on the momentum that the business has seen since the pandemic began, with “greater pressure on marketing budgets and an increasing number of in-house teams looking to augment their marketing services structures with creative tech platforms,” said the company.

    “He brings incredible experience from his years at Grey working with some of the world’s biggest advertisers, as well as a deep understanding of the industry and clients across Asia. We know that Raju’s experience will add great value to the Genero solution and for our clients,” Lane said.

    As a Grey veteran, Alluri previously held a number of roles across the agency, including president director and CEO in Indonesia, CEO of Singapore and Thailand, and group CEO of Indonesia and Thailand.

    Speaking about his new role, Alluri said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to join this amazingly progressive technology-driven global company. Excited to lead the Asia region to build Genero across a very diverse set of markets.     New Delhi: Rahul Joshi has been re-appointed as the managing director of Network18 for a period of three years. He will hold the position up to 8 July 2024, said the company on Friday.

    The appointment is subject to the approval of the shareholders. The information was submitted by Network18 in a BSE filing. “Joshi is not related to any of the directors of the Company and he is not debarred from holding the office of director by virtue of any order of SEBI or any such other authority,” it added.

    Joshi has been associated with Network18 Group since September 2015 and initially served as chief executive officer, News and group editor-in-chief. In 2018, the Board of Directors of Network18 Media and Investments (Network18) elevated Joshi to the position of managing director of Network18 for a term of three years up to 8 July 2021.

    Prior to joining Network18 Group, he worked with Economic Times (ET) for over two decades, and rose through ranks to become one of the youngest editors. He has also worked as its editorial director, and played a key role in the launch of ETNow, and shaping the digital coverage of ET Online. He has also worked with The Indian Express. Joshi was also on the board of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA).

    The Hershey Company appoints Geetika Mehta as MD, India

    Mumbai: North America-based global snacking company and chocolate maker, The Hershey Company, announced the appointment of Geetika Mehta, as managing director, India effective from 1 July. India continues to remain a key focus market for Hershey International and the organization is committed to talent development and building leadership. Geetika’s appointment will further strengthen the leadership at Hershey India, the company said in a statement.

    Geetika will be reporting to The Hershey Company India VP and AEMEA Herjit Bhalla, who was recently elevated to a global role. Herjit reports directly to Hershey International president Rohit Grover.

    In her most recent role, she served at Hindustan Unilever as general manager for its home and hygiene business. With various leadership roles in FMCG and food businesses, Geetika brings over 18 years of experience across commercial and consumer marketing.  

    Welcoming Geetika on board, Hermit Bhalla said, “The Indian market is of significant importance to us and is critical to our long-term growth plans.   • Pearson names Siddharth Banerjee as MD-India & Asia

    Mumbai: The UK-based education and publishing firm Pearson on Monday announced the appointment of Siddharth Banerjee as the new managing director (MD) for India and Asia, with effect from 6 July. He will be responsible for strengthening Pearson’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) strategy and digital proposition in the region while building a direct relationship with the education ecosystem in the region.

    Siddharth will be moving from Games24x7, a gaming company where he served as chief revenue and marketing officer. Over his career spanning 21 years, he has previously helmed senior-level positions at organisations like Facebook, Vodafone, and Unilever.

    “We are delighted to appoint Siddharth as our new Managing Director for Pearson in India and Asia,” Pearson’s global president-higher education, Tim Bozik said. “India is a key strategic market for Pearson and we are confident that his vast experience will be valuable as Pearson strengthens its focus on constructing a vibrant digital education ecosystem.”

    Essence appoints Monica Bhatia as MD for Singapore

    NEW DELHI- Essence, a global data and measurement-driven media agency that is part of GroupM, has appointed Monica Bhatia as the company’s managing director for Singapore. Bhatia will be responsible for driving continued client-centric innovation in data, analytics, and technology, as well as business growth and company culture for Essence in Singapore. As part of Essence’s APAC leadership team, Bhatia will report to APAC CEO T. Gangadhar (Gangs).

    Alongside her new position, Bhatia will continue in her current role as Essence’s senior vice president client partner, APAC, leading the agency’s Google business across the region and reporting to Dave Marsey, Essence’s president, global client partner. Prior to joining Essence in 2017, she headed the digital practice for GroupM’s Maxus in APAC, building its product proposition across 14 markets. With over 17 years of experience in the industry, Bhatia has worked on the brand side at L’Oréal and Godrej Group in India, and Dabur in Nepal. She has also held client services and strategic planning roles at creative and media agencies in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and India.
