    MUMBAI: Achieving a new milestone, Discovery Channel has scored an impressive hat trick by bagging top honours for three phenomenal shows Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls and Prime Minister Modi, India 2050 and Man, Woman and #MeToo at the Asian academy creative awards, held recently  in Singapore. 

    One of the most popular episodes of the adventure show Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls and Prime Minister Modi won the award for the best non scripted entertainment. The documentary India 2050 produced by Wide Angle Films for Discovery Channel, India received an award for best direction while, Discovery Channel’s documentary on patriarchy and its various ramifications in Indian society which was produced by Vice India, Man, Woman and #MeToo, won the award for the best current affairs programme or series. 

    Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls and Prime Minister Modi features survivalist Bear Grylls as he embarks on an adventure into the jungles of India with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This special episode had been shot in the Jim Corbett National Park, and showcased a frank and freewheeling journey, throwing light on wildlife conservation and highlighting issues related to environmental change. The adventurous pair even had to make a raft & cross a jungle river together! 

    India-2050 takes a hard-hitting look at the existential threat of climate change in India. Combining visual effects built on projected outcomes, with compelling human stories from across the nation, this is a riveting, first-of-its-kind account of the impending climate crisis. The documentary begins with Jaipur, known as the pink city of India, but imagined as in 2050, completely buried under piles of sand. It then moves into the future of currently flourishing metropolises of Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata, giving viewers a terrifying glimpse of what is to come, for each of these metro cities. 

    Man, Woman and #MeToo, while tracing the #MeToo movement across India, delves into the origins of patriarchy in the country, the magnitude of the problem and how each one of us has played a part in it – as enablers, almost on a daily basis. It also features specialists who explain the reasons of India's inherent patriarchy through real-life examples and case studies.

    MUMBAI: The special edition of Discovery’s iconic and hugely popular franchise ‘Man Vs Wild’ featuring Prime Minister Modi with world-renowned survivalist and adventurer, Bear Grylls, lived up to its billing to emerge as the TV show of the year. The premiere on Discovery Network (across 12 Discovery channels) created history by garnering highest slot viewership (on active channels) with 3.69 million impressions overtaking GEC leader Star Plus with 3.67 million impressions1. The premiere also delivered the highest ever slot reach for the infotainment genre with 6.1 million tune-in on Discovery Channel which is 15 times more as compared to the last 4 weeks average of the same slot2. The premiere slot performance grew an astonishing 50 times giving an unprecedented 93% channel share to Discovery channel amongst the infotainment genre3.  Discovery Channel emerged as the third ranked channel with 3.05 million impressions behind Star Plus (3.67 million impressions) and Zee (3.3 million impressions)1. The show kept the viewers on the hook delivering an impressive average TSV of 29.2 minutes4.

    The premiere delivered the highest ever sampling in the infotainment genre with 15.6 million tune-ins5. The premiere of the show on Aug 12 on Discovery Channel rewrote the rules of the infotainment genre emerging as the highest ever rated show in the history of genre in India garnering 6.9 million impressions6. 

    The cumulative reach for the show across Discovery network, originals & repeat included, & DD National was an imposing 42.7 million7. The special edition of Man Vs Wild with Bear Grylls & Prime Minister Modi is also being showcased on Discovery network of channels across 179 countries.

    In celebration of the show’s success, Discovery India will make a generous donation for the cause of Tiger conservation in India in alignment with the PM’s message of committing to wildlife conservation.  As part of our global Project C.A.T – Conserving Acres for Tigers, Discovery has partnered with World Wildlife Fund to ensure healthy habitats for future generations of Tigers by helping conserve nearly six million acres of biodiversity rich areas across four countries. With this contribution, Discovery India will extend support to Tiger conservation program at Corbett Landscape & Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve in partnership with WWF India.

    MUMBAI: What started with a tweet from by survivalist and adventurer Bear Grylls announcing the upcoming Discovery Exclusive ‘Man Vs Wild with Bear Grylls and PM Modi’ has now turned into a Twitter storm with #PMModiOnDiscovery becoming one of the most used hashtags on Twitter to promote a television show ever.

    It was the top trend in India on the day of announcement. The trend also made waves globally entering the elite top 3 trends.

    In a span of less than 12 hours since the tweet first made an appearance, the hashtag has received reached a mindboggling 728 million people through over 204.2 K mentions by more than 206.2 K users as per the data from global media intelligence firm Meltwater. The show has received unprecedented buzz on the social media platform with no signs of it dying down any time soon.

    Discovery Jeet postpones 2 show launches to late March

    MUMBAI: The newly launched general entertainment channel, Discovery Jeet has planned to halt the launch of two yet to be released shows Gabru – Hip Hop Ke Shehzaade and Man Vs Wild with Sunny Leone.

    An official from Discovery communication confirmed the news to Indiantelevision.com about the shows being re-launched at a later date by the end of March.

    Gabru producer Anand Tiwari said that Jeet has just started and the channel is monitoring its prime shows’ viewership. The show consists of 35 episodes and the season will be over inseven weeks. The network doesn’t want the show to start off with average ratings.

    He further added, “I’m happy with the decision that once the channel garners traction and all the eyeballs are at the screen during the prime time, the network will air our show.”

    The channel went live with much fanfare on 12 February and claimed record-breaking viewership in its first week. According to Chrome DM, day two of the channel going live saw OTS of 87.1 per cent across urban Hindi speaking markets, 20 percentage points higher than the launch week of Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV last year.

    MUMBAI: Sunny Leone will be displaying her adventurous side as host of the mega-popular survival series Man Vs. Wild. The iconic series will telecast in Hindi on the soon-to-be-launched GEC Discovery JEET. The new GEC will premiere in the second week of February 2018 and the series will feature the beautiful actor hosting as well as undertaking many difficult stunts and adding a dash of humour with her vivacious personality.

    The original show features host Bear Grylls sharing survival strategies in extreme conditions, while navigating through some of the world’s most remote locations. The Hindi version titled ‘Man vs Wild with Sunny Leone’ on Discovery JEET will have the actress narrating her personal survival stories even as she presents Bear’s adventures in the wild. The set of the show will have elements like pond, caves and trees to give the real look and feel of a jungle.

    Sharing her excitement on being a part of the show, Sunny Leone says, “I am extremely excited to be part of such a popular show and the channel – Discovery JEET.
