Saavn also adds tongue-in-cheek talk show#NoFilter Neha with Neha Dhupia to the Saavn Originals lineup. Saavn to me is a place where the talented meet the cool and vice-versa and I am happy to get on board with them as a content creator.”

#NoFilter promises to shock, awe, and delight Saavn’s 18 million listeners starting mid-September.

Building on AiR’s successful launch with popular electronic artist Nucleya, Dixit will create new music, playlists, collaborations and audio shows exclusively for Saavn, expanding Saavn’s already diverse Indie music and Regional music offerings.

“I’m really excited about my partnership with Saavn for the Artist-in-Residence initiative,” said Raghu Dixit, “I love the freedom that Saavn gives the artist and the trust they display in giving artist full control over content being created. I know that with their diverse and highly engaged listeners, this partnership will be a great step forward in taking quality Indian independent music around the world.”

Having previously performed for the Queen of England at the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Windsor, as well as the largest festival in Glastonbury, Dixit is no stranger to the world stage. On August 5th, Dixit embarks on the most extensive tour of his career – the “Masterplan for Happiness” tour taking place in the U.S., Canada, Ireland and the U.K. To kick off Dixit’s debut as Saavn’s AiR, Saavn will be backing Dixit’s global tour by promoting the tour through Saavn’s app and social channels.

  • Madonna to direct her third project

Madonna to direct her third project

MUMBAI: According to the Hollywood Reporter, Madonna is set to helm the big screen adaptation of Ade: A Love Story, the debut novel of Rebecca Walker, daughter of Pulitzer Prize winning author Alice Walker (The Color Purple).

Rebecca Walker will co-produce the film, along with Bruce Cohen, who produced Silver Linings Playbook and American Beauty. Adé: A Love Story holds a 3.67/5 ratings based on 179 ratings on Goodreads. In this stunning debut novella, Rebecca Walker turns her attention to the power of love and the limitations of the human heart.

When Farida, a sophisticated college student, falls in love with Adé, a young Swahili man living on an idyllic island off the coast of Kenya, the two plan to marry and envision a simple life together – free of worldly possessions and concerns. But when Farida contracts malaria and finds herself caught in the middle of a civil war, reality crashes in around them. The lovers’ solitude is interrupted by a world in the throes of massive upheaval that threatens to tear them apart, along with all they cherish.

Madonna evidently loved the book when it was published last year. She posted a picture of the cover on her Google+ account and quoted, “Read this Book! An incredible journey! A Beautiful LOVE story!”

This film will be Madonna’s third outing in the director’s chair. Her last film was W.E., in 2011, a period retelling of the dire straits of Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, while her directorial debut, 2008’s Filth and Wisdom was a comedy centered on roommates living desperate lives in London.

Madonna was on a huge world tour last year, and was named the world’s top-earning celebrity by Forbes in 2013 with gross earnings of about $125 million.

  • Madonna richer than Lady Gaga: Forbes

Madonna richer than Lady Gaga: Forbes

MUMBAI: The queen of pop, Madonna is still ruling the music world. She is leading the Forbes’ 2013 Highest-Paid Musicians list. According to the Forbes Magazine, the 55-year-old diva earned $125 million from June 2012 to May 2013, thanks to her highly-successful MDMA Tour. The ‘4 Minutes’ hitmaker has beaten chart-topping artists like Rihanna and fellow icons like Paul McCartney and is the highest paid musician of 2013.

The MDMA tour grossed $305 million. According to report published in the magazine, it took into account concert ticket sales, royalties for recorded music and publishing, merchandise sales, endorsement deals, and other business ventures. In addition to her tour, Madonna’s other endeavors include merchandising from her concert, her clothing line and her perfume, all of which helped the songstress dominate the list of top earners.

Next to her in the list is Lady Gaga with an annual income of $80 million, followed by Jersey rocks and 80s icons Bon Jovi, who nabbed $79 million for the year.

  • Time of the yore, once more

Time of the yore, once more

MUMBAI: She must have raised many eyebrows for her provocative choices. But nobody could match Madonna’s style at her vixen-esque best. She inspired almost all the young girls in the eighties and most of the guys were awestruck by her sheer screen presence. Now, the viewers have a chance to know all about Madonna and a lot more about the 80s with a new show on NGC.

Retro never really goes out of fashion, and when one looks back on this era through the yellow window, amazing content is assured, says John Abraham

Since the era has had its own glory with neon pop colours, Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ punching Argentina to footballing glory, the launch of the first personal computer, the rise of Bollywood’s very own “Disco Dancer” and Jennifer Beal’s “Flash” dance, the channel gives an opportunity to explore that.

“National Geographic Channel provides factual entertainment that strives to give people something new and fascinating. The 80s is, at the very least – fascinating and quite trend setting. Trends that are still impacting our lives – in terms of fashion, gadgets, sports, music, etc. This not just makes for rich and interesting content, it is extremely refreshing for the whole genre as well,” says National Geographic and FOX International Channels, VP, marketing, Debarpita Banerjee.

However, since the show would feature multiple domains – from fashion, gadgets and sports to media and politics, the channel has done a great deal of legwork. To recreate the entire decade across various arenas wasn’t easy. “Legitimacy and accuracy had to be ensured, since every story is told through a string of first-hand interviews and accounts,” remarks Bannerjee, further adding that the 80s icons and newsmakers like high-tech titan Steve Wozniak, media mogul Ted Turner, renowned director Oliver Stone as well as Jane Fonda, Calvin Klein, Michael J Fox, Joan Collins, David Hasselhoff and Bruce Weber have been brought on board to share their insights about the decade. “While on the Indian front, Piyush Pandey, Mahesh Bhatt, Vinod Dua, Mark Tully and Subhash Ghai are a few of the big-wigs that have been roped in,” she adds.

“Retro” always interests people and that is what has got the channel interested in the concept. “Plus, this was the decade that witnessed the emergence of legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, rise of Rajiv Gandhi and the era that gave Madonna, in all her avatars, a manic fan-base and when the world was privy to a modern day fairytale – the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana,” says Banerjee.

The 80s, according to the channel, has the best of ‘infotainment’ to offer to the discerning viewer, in way of fashion, technology, sports and some of the biggest moments in history. “So, while the decade may not be top of mind now, and may have acquired some dust, there is definitely a lot of sheen beneath it. We are quite confident that it will make a great watch,” she adds.

To promote the series well, it is being supported by an extensive online campaign which has been activated on social media and across websites. The channel is hosting a #Flashback80s week from 21 till 25 October on the Nat Geo Facebook page for the three million plus fans. “The week will also see an ‘80s Music Quiz’ contest hosted on Twitter, Facebook users can hashtag #Flashback80s and tell us any three things that made the 1980s a memorable decade for them, whether fun or emotional or plain nostalgic. Also, we will be sharing videos, pictures, faux pas, gadgets, sporting events from the decade for people to relive a slice of the 80s,” says Bannerjee.

Besides, actor John Abraham, the face of the channel, has also been going gung-ho about the concept. “The cherry on the cake would definitely be the show’s overriding theme! ‘Retro’ never really goes out of fashion, and when one looks back on this era through the yellow window, amazing content is assured. It was the decade that throbbed to the sounds of the Boombox, witnessed the death of Indira Gandhi and rise of Rajiv Gandhi and also the decade that saw the world holding its breath as the Chernobyl nuclear reactor went up in flames. I have no doubt that the show would appeal to people across all age-groups and is just as relevant today, as it ever was.”

The show will air on Thursday and Friday at 10 pm every week.

  • Madonna tops Forbes 2013 list of the top-earning celebrities

Madonna tops Forbes 2013 list of the top-earning celebrities

MUMBAI: Madonna’s latest album, MDNA, was a flop. Her 12th studio album, Madonna sold fewer than a million copies of MDNA in the US and the singles, like “Give Me All Your Luvin,” failed to impress on the pop music scene.

But the tour that the ‘Material Girl’ launched to go along with her new album was a spectacular success. Fans didn’t flock to the stadium and spend upwards of $100 per ticket to hear Madonna’s latest stuff. They went to hear hits like “Vogue,” “Like a Virgin” and “Lucky Star.” The tour grossed $305 million and earned her the Top Touring Award at the Billboard Music Awards. Add to that strong merchandise sales, a clothing line, fragrance and investments in companies like Vita Coco and Madonna tops the list of the highest earning celebrities. It is estimates that the pop star brought in $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013.

That’s more money than Madonna has ever earned in the time Forbes has been doing the Celebrity 100 list. The closest she came to $125 million was in 2009 when she earned $110 million.

Madonna’s success, at age 55, just goes to show the incredible power of a successful music career. Many have accused Lady Gaga of copying Madonna’s career. The young star is certainly emulating Madonna when it comes to raking in the moolah. Gaga ranks 10th on the list of highest-paid celebrities with $80 million in earnings. She would have brought in even more than that if her tour hadn’t been cut short by a hip injury. Her latest single, “Applause,” was overshadowed last week by Katy Perry‘s latest, “Roar.” But Gaga can comfort herself with the knowledge that last year at least, she earned a lot more money than Perry who brought in an estimate $39 million.

To compilation of the list is based on, talks with agents, managers, producers and other in-the-know folks to come up with estimates for each celebrity’s entertainment-related earnings between June 2012 and June 2013, the time frame for Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list. There is no deduction for taxes, agent fees or the other expenses of being a celebrity.

Ranking second on the list with $25 million less than Madonna is Steven Spielberg. The director earned an estimated $100 million between June 2012 and June 2013. Most of that money comes from his extensive library. Hit movies like E.T. and Jurassic Park are always playing on TV somewhere in the world. Last year’s Lincoln was a critical and financial hit earning $275 million on a budget of $65 million. Now Spielberg’s DreamWorks is starting to show some real strength on TV. The studio’s latest show, Under the Dome, is one of the few bright spots on broadcast television.

Author E.L. James, Howard Stern and Simon Cowell all tie for third place on Forbes’ list with $95 million each. James took the publishing world by storm with 50 Shades of Grey. The trilogy has sold 70 million copies worldwide and a movie is now in the works at Universal Studios. Stern still earns big from his contract with Sirius/XM (despite lawsuits) and Cowell is raking it in from the The X Factor and Got Talent formats which air in dozens of different countries. Stern and Cowell overlap with Got Talent. Stern is earning an estimated $15 million per year as one of the judges on America’s Got Talent.

The viewership and rating grew throughout the game and peaked at a 117.7 million viewers and a 50.7/72, respectively, in the fourth quarter when Eli Manning led the Giants on a game-winning drive.

The halftime performance by Madonna was seen by 114 million viewers, nearly four million more than last year‘s performance featuring the Black Eyed Peas (110.3 million), and is the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show featuring entertainment ever (dating back to 1991).
