Sony Pictures to telecast UFC 205 live in New York City
MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks (SPN)’s sports cluster is all set to broadcast UFC 205 live. With its explosive line- up of fights, the event will take place at Madison Square Garden.
Headlined by the UFC Lightweight Championship between Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor, the league will be simulcast live on 13 November at 08:30 pm on Sony Six, SONY ESPN and SONY ESPN HD. It will also be available for live streaming on the Sony Liv app and website.
UFC 205 will kick off with the Bantamweight bout between former champion Miesha Tate and Raquel Pennington and will end with Conor McGregor attempting to be the first fighter to hold two championship titles in two different categories in UFC history with his fight against Eddie Alvarez in the Lightweight bout.
Main Fight Card:
· Eddie Alvarez v/s Conor McGregor – Lightweight Title
Both these fighters have been involved in a constant war of words as both of them prepare for the biggest bout in UFC. Alvarez went on to predict that his fight with McGregor will end in a similar fashion as UFC 196, where the latter lost brutally to Nate Diaz. However, the Irish mixed martial artist, who is known to have a very sharp tongue retaliated saying that the upcoming fight will be Alvarez’s last.
· Tyron Woodley v/s Stephen Thomson – Welterweight Title
The state of the UFC welterweight title chase appears to be relatively clear-cut heading into UFC 205, as reigning champion, Tyron Woodley will take on Stephen Thomson in the Welterweight bout, which is just one of the many reasons why the UFC debut event in New York is a blockbuster
· Joanna Jedrzejczyk v/s Karolina Kowalkiewicz -Strawweight Title
The two Polish contenders will battle it out in the Octagon with Joanna Jedrzejczyk heading into her fourth title defense against Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 and will be defending her title on the biggest stage possible
· Chris Weidman v/s Yoel Romero – Middleweight Category
Former Champion Chris Weidman was perhaps the most active of all fighters on the UFC roster and he will be facing Yoel Romero in the Middleweight bout
· Kelvin Gastelum v/s Donald Cerrone – Welterweight Category
Cerrone will look to move up in the Welterweight rankings as he faces Kelvin Gastelum, the former The Ultimate Fighter winner, in UFC 205
· Miesha Tate v/s Raquel Pennington – Bantamweight Category
This fight is extremely important for Pennington as it represents both the greatest challenge and opportunity of her personal life. The bout marks Tate’s return to action after being usurped as the division’s champion. She’ll hope to put the one-sided thrashing behind her and get back to turning in the kind of performance that allowed her to win five straight prior to the recent defeat.

Beyonce dominates MTV VMAs 2016
MUMBAI: Beyonce has topped the winners list at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards that was held in New York, after scoring a string of top honours, including video of the year for her politically charged song, “Formation” and best female video.
The 34-year-old superstar led all nominees heading into the show with 11 nods for her groundbreaking Lemonade album and short film.
And she quickly racked up the prizes, earning best choreography, best direction, best cinematography, and best editing for “Formation”, which she performed as part of a show-stopping Lemonade medley.
“Formation” earned Beyonce the coveted video of the year title, which she dedicated to the residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, who have been struggling with severe flooding in recent weeks. Her best female video win was for “Hold Up”.
With her multiple victories, she broke the record for most VMAs with 21 wins, surpassing the previous title holder Madonna, who has a total of 20 Moonman trophies.
Rihanna was another big winner at the VMAs, which she opened with the first of four performances during the New York show, singing hits “Only Girl” (In The World), “We Found Love”, and “Where Have You Been.”
She later returned to the Madison Square Garden stage to belt out tracks like “Work”, “Needed Me”, “Stay,” and “Diamonds” before she was presented with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award by her frequent collaborator and rumoured boyfriend Drake.
He delivered a heart-warming speech hailing the R&B beauty’s achievements, declared he had been “in love” with her since he was 22, and honoured Rihanna as a “living, breathing legend in our industry.”
They then shared a kiss on the cheek as Rihanna stepped up to accept the special Moonman award, which she celebrated as “such an amazing moment” in her career.
The Bajan star then went on to thank her longtime fans, saying: “My success, it started as my dream, but now my success is not my own; it’s my family’s, it’s my fans, it’s my country’s, it’s the Caribbean as a whole, it’s women, it’s black women.
“So many people feel like their little piece is such a major part of this puzzle and I have to thank you guys for supporting me, over and over…”

The line between supporters and fanatics has blurred, says Dilip Cherian
To quell the raging Rajdeep reaction, it seems PM Modi moved swiftly by getting a story out that emissary Adani called to say sorry! While its right or wrong, true or false arguments prevail, Rajdeep became a symbol of something, a fabulous place for any TV journo to be, brand enhancing and truly a victory for Image Managers on either side.
But then, it’s still sad, that it’s not only Hong Kong’s protestors, who are not the ones taking to the streets. The Modi lovers at Madison Square Garden sadly had closet protestors amidst them too! Clearly, this is also the season for violent expressions of distaste and distrust, and Rajdeep Sardesai was just unlucky to be a kind of lightning rod. Provocations and partisan videos aside, clearly something was very wrong amongst those gathered to greet and preen for Modi in New York City that fateful day. And its best, it’s now put to rest!
But a basic malaise seems to have spread even further and Modi may not quite know yet. On a live television channel in New Delhi a former diplomat commenting on the excitement over Modi’s US visit lapsed into the totally unparliamentary word of “tuttoo” to describe Manmohan Singh’s relationship with the United States. A shocked anchor groaned visibly on screen, other guests were similarly aghast, but apologies were not quite forthcoming! The regrettable Rajdeep incident, too, had several up in arms against the treatment meted out to Rajdeep, but, significantly, many others who have been defending the mob’s actions as well. And it’s good that Modi’s minders put their word out too – in a manner of speaking. Clearly, the line between supporters and fanatics has blurred considerably even as the line between the “us” versus “them” perception has deepened and widened.
Clearly, between the protestors in Hong Kong facing the wrath of an obdurate Chinese administration and the voices that seem to assume that Modi would support them in a similarly enthusiastic manner, the message that comes through visibly on television screens in a variety of ways is of a new aggression, a new violence, and that unholy suspicion that silencing the enemy is probably what the New Age mantra seems to have become.
