Subscribers are now in for a treat with a treasure trove of critically acclaimed BBC titles—Luther, Doctor Who, Top Gear, Planet Earth III, and more—joining the platform’s extensive streaming lineup.

    The partnership aims to offer a mix of iconic dramas, sharp-witted comedies, genre-defining documentaries, and engaging family-friendly content—all under one roof. From the legendary Mr. Bean to the culinary magic of Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver, there’s something for everyone. Even the kids can dive into animated favourites like Andy’s Aquatic Adventures and Junior Bake Off.

    MUMBAI: Middle-earth is calling once more! Prime Video has confirmed that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is returning for a third season, with pre-production already underway. Filming is set to begin this spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK, marking a new chapter in Amazon’s most-watched fantasy saga. With over 170 million viewers worldwide, the series remains a powerhouse for Prime Video, driving record-breaking new subscriptions.

    Returning to shape the next season’s visual spectacle is Charlotte Brändström, now stepping in as an executive producer and director, alongside Sanaa Hamri and new addition Stefan Schwartz. Brändström, known for her work on The Witcher and The Man in the High Castle, directed multiple episodes in The Rings of Power’s first two seasons. Hamri, a veteran of The Wheel of Time and Empire, is back after directing several episodes in Season Two. Schwartz, whose credits include The Boys, Luther, and The Walking Dead, joins the directorial lineup for the first time.

    “The Rings of Power continues to captivate audiences worldwide, and we’re thrilled that a third season is underway,” said Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders. “The creative team has an extraordinary vision for what’s to come, and we can’t wait to delve even deeper into the legendary tales that shaped Middle-earth.”

    The Rings of Power has become a defining title for Prime Video, boasting one of the platform’s biggest debuts and consistently drawing massive global engagement. Seasons one and two have been lauded for their epic storytelling and cinematic visuals, with both receiving certified fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

    The series is helmed by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, and Kate Hazell also onboard. Brändström joins the executive producer ranks, ensuring continuity in the series’ grand vision.

    MUMBAI: Indian viewers are in for multi-dimensional miniseries experience this August. ‘Luther’- a critically acclaimed dark psychological crime series, will take Indian viewers through a twisted and thrilling journey the fascinating world of crime. Starting 17th August, the channel will showcase the series every Monday to Friday at 10pm.

     

    Crackling with spine-chilling suspense and a gripping storyline, Luther stars Idris Elba in the lead role as John Luther, a brilliantly genius yet emotionally impulsive detective who might be as dangerous as the depraved murderers he hunts.     The star of the show is Idris Elba as John Luther, essaying a strong performance that won him a Golden Globe Best Actor award. Best known for his roles in The Wire, Thor and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Idris Elba is an award winning British television, theatre & film actor. In addition to his acting work, Elba is a DJ under the moniker DJ Big Driis (or Big Driis the Londoner) and a hip-hop soul musician. Another notable actor, a two-time Olivier Award and Golden Globe Award winner, Ruth Wilson plays the psychotically brilliant and close friend of Luther, Alice Morgan. Alice insinuates herself into Luther’s business and personal life both as an enemy and ally while providing the show with its most visceral kicks. The actress has earned global attention for her roles in Suburban Shootout and Jane Eyre.

     

    Bringing the entire series from season 1 to the premiere of season 3 to India, FX will add the international hit to its robust line-up of the edgiest shows across categories.     BBC Worldwide inks VOD deal with Tata Sky

    MUMBAI: In its first VOD deal in India, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Worldwide has signed an agreement with direct to home (DTH) provider Tata Sky’s SVOD and TVOD services.

     

    As a part of this deal, subscribers in eight Indian metros will have the opportunity to access the best of the BBC’s drama and comedy via BBC On-Demand, on Tata Sky. Viewers can also access it online via their TVs, PCs, tablets and mobiles.

     

    Programmes that will be available on the service includes Luther, starring Idris Alba, who won a Golden Globe for his role as a brilliant but emotionally impulsive murder detective; The Honorable Woman starring Maggie Gyllenhaal who won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a powerful businesswoman haunted by events from her past in a thriller set in the Middle East; and Burton and Taylor, based on the legendary acting duo, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor starring Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter.

     

    The block will kick-start with the classic hit Yes, Prime Minister, contemporary comedy, Citizen Khan and the endearing drama, Being Erica.

    BBC World News, BBC America expand distribution in the US

    MUMBAI: BBC America and BBC World News today announced wider expansion in Time Warner Cable systems for the BBC‘s 24-hour global TV news channel BBC World News in the US and increased distribution for BBC America, the home of acclaimed series ‘Doctor Who‘, ‘Copper‘, ‘Luther‘, Top Gea‘r and ‘The Hour‘.

    BBC Worldwide America executive VP network distribution Sandy Ashendorf said, "It‘s been a record-breaking year for BBC America, as our iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who has reached new heights and we‘ve created new original programming including ‘Copper‘, our highest-rated series premiere ever. We‘re excited to expand BBC America‘s partnership with Time Warner Cable and launch BBC World News, which has seen record distribution growth in the past year."

    BBC World News will be added to the digital basic package in most Time Warner Cable systems before the end of December 2012. It will see increased distribution in several cities. By year-end, BBC World News will be carried in top US markets including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and San Francisco.

    As a result of its expanded relationship with Time Warner Cable and other multichannel operator deals over the past two years, BBC World News will have grown its reach by over 10 million new homes in 2012 and in total, BBC World News will reach 25 million full time homes in the US following the Time Warner Cable launches.

    Time Warner Cable also will increase BBC America‘s reach. In January, BBC America will debut new drama ‘Ripper Street‘, set in London in the aftermath of Jack the Ripper, and new original series ‘Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan‘. New episodes of ‘Doctor Who‘, ‘Copper‘, ‘Luther‘, ‘Top Gear‘, ‘The Graham Norton Show‘, ‘Being Human‘, ‘The Thick of It‘ plus new original drama ‘Orphan Black‘ and mini-series ‘Spies of Warsaw‘ have also been announced for next year.

    The past two years have been an important breakthrough period for BBC World News as it continues to expand its distribution. The BBC is investing heavily in new programs and facilities as it seeks to build on recent successes growing audiences and reputation around the world. This will include the launch of new state of the art studios for the channel in January 2013, at the BBC‘s new building in central London.
