  • Fan-tastic four as Dhoni hype and debutant delight rule IPL 2025 pulse

Fan-tastic four as Dhoni hype and debutant delight rule IPL 2025 pulse

MUMBAI: Turns out the biggest impact player of IPL 2025 isn’t even an “impact player”, it’s Dhoni. A new report titled The IPL Pulse by 23 Watts Insights Studio has bowled over cricket buffs with fan-fuelled findings from over 5,000 respondents across 10 cities. From emerging icons to unexpected frontrunners, the survey captures the shifting allegiances, breakout stars, and strategic evolution of this year’s league proving once again that in India, cricket isn’t just watched, it’s felt.

At 42, MS Dhoni may not be scoring big with the bat, but his grip on the nation’s heart remains unshaken. A whopping 73 per cent fans say he shouldn’t retire just yet, with 35.13 per cent calling him the “soul of CSK” and 37.77 per cent admitting he’s not in peak form, but still brings immense value. Only 27 per cent feel it’s time for Thala to trade the gloves for the dugout.

While legends still shine, Gen Z has crowned its new prince. Rajasthan Royals’ teen dynamo Vaibhav Suryavanshi has emerged as the most impressive debutant with 31.4 per cent votes. Following close are Mumbai Indians’ Ashwani Kumar (21 per cent) and South African import Ryan Rickelton (15.8 per cent), whose flair with the bat has turned heads across formats.

When it comes to bowling nightmares, Jasprit Bumrah (32.4 per cent) reigns supreme, followed by CSK’s crafty spinner Noor Ahmad (28.4 per cent). Fans, though, are clearly on the pace bandwagon 65.3 per cent believe fast bowlers are tougher to face than spinners this season.

It’s the year of the underdog. According to the report, 65 per cent of fans are hoping for a first-time IPL winner. Royal Challengers Bangalore leads the fairytale charge with 44 per cent of the vote, ahead of Delhi Capitals (12 per cent), Punjab Kings (7 per cent) and Lucknow Super Giants (2 per cent). Mumbai Indians (13 per cent) and CSK (12 per cent) remain in the hunt, but fan hopes seem to favour fresh silverware.

Love it or overhype it, the “Impact Player” rule has divided the pitch but not the people. An overwhelming 78 per cent agree it’s added a strategic edge to the game, while 20 per cent say it’s tough on true-blue all-rounders.

Key takeaways from The IPL Pulse:

. Thala for life: Only 1 in 4 fans want Dhoni to retire.

. Debut delight: Suryavanshi and Kumar lead the rookie chart.

.  Bowling heat: Bumrah is still the batter’s worst nightmare.

Dark horse energy: RCB tops wishlist for a new IPL champion.

Rule reimagined: “Impact player” earns mass approval.

With 55 matches down and plenty more fireworks to come, The IPL Pulse proves one thing beyond doubt, the love for cricket is as layered and unpredictable as the tournament itself. And in this game, it’s not just the players making an impact, it’s the fans who write the script.

Viraj Chouhan hops onto RP-Sanjiv Goenka group in corporate affairs role

MUMBAI: In a splashy move that coincides with the festival of colours, corporate affairs  veteran Viraj Chouhan has jumped ship from PepsiCo to join the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group as its group corporate affairs officer. The announcement, dripping with Holi metaphors, marks the end of Chouhan’s nearly six-year innings with the fizzy drinks giant.

“Just as Holi symbolises renewal, this opportunity marks a vibrant new chapter,” gushed Chouhan in a LinkedIn post.

The alumnus of Nagpur University brings hefty credentials to the table, having previously served as vice president corporate affairs for PepsiCo’s APAC region. His CV reads like a who’s who of corporate India, with stints as chief communications officer at Ola and executive director of corporate communications at MTS India.
Chouhan cut his corporate affairs and communications teeth during a five-year spell at Coca-Cola before switching allegiance to arch-rival PepsiCo.

The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, which Chouhan now represents, boasts an asset base of US $7 billion (approximately Rs 58,000 crore) and revenue of US $4 billion (Rs 33,000 crore). The conglomerate has its fingers in numerous pies, from power and FMCG to retail and IT.

Sports enthusiasts might recognise RPSG as the owner of IPL team Lucknow Super Giants and football club Mohun Bagan—giving Chouhan plenty of metaphorical playing fields for his corporate messaging.

  • IPL2025 Auction: The action heats up on day two

IPL2025 Auction: The action heats up on day two

MUMBAI: With limited purses at their disposal, some of the team managements moved cautiously while making their purchases on day two of the IPL2025 mega auction at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  Royal Challengers Bengaluru  had a piggy bank with Rs 30.65 crore; Mumbai Indians, Rs 26.1 crore; Punjab Kings, Rs 22.5 crore; Gujarat Titans, Rs 17.5 crore; Rajasthan Royals, Rs 17.35 crore; Chennai Super Kings; Lucknow Super Giants, Rs 14.85 crore; Delhi Capitals, Rs 13.8 crore; Kolkata Knight Riders, Rs 10.5 crore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rs 5.5 crore.

The day was a bit of a shocker with some rather good players not finding any takers in the first round of the auction, but getting picked up in the first or second round of the accelerated auction later in the day. Among the cricketers who were left out figured: Kane Williamson,  Glenn Phillips, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agrawal, Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, Daryl Mitchell,Shai Hope, K.S. Delhi Capitals gets new marketing head

MUMBAI: He’s taken a trip from Lucknow to Delhi. Atishay Agarwal has moved on from Lucknow Super Giants as head of digital to Delhi Capitals as head of marketing. Agarwal has 16 years of work experience – from being an editor to being an analyst and anchor and a digital and social media marketer.

According to him, the transition is a both  a victory and a breakthrough for him.. “.Over the last decade and more, professionals in content and digital marketing have often been seen as “digital-only” resources rather than integral marketing leaders,” he revealed in a post on linkedin.

“Historically, marketing leadership roles have been dominated by specialists in offline marketing, while digital-first professionals like myself have questioned: “????’? ??? ???? ?? ?????? ?????? ????????” And for very long, I didn’t have any answer whatsoever. It often felt like this is all I could do for the rest of my career!

This opportunity with Delhi Capitals represents a shift – one that I’m incredibly grateful for. It’s a recognition that digital expertise is not different or just a subset of marketing, but a cornerstone of modern marketing. Joining the franchise gives me the platform to learn, grow, and maximise my potential alongside an exceptional team.”

Through a 2-part series of heart-touching films, the campaign shines a spotlight on the mentors aka our beloved cricketer’s first coaches who were the first ones to recognize and nurture their talent from grassroots to grandeur.

Echoing the brand’s purpose of generosity, Cadbury Dairy Milk’s #ThankYouFirstCoach campaign features the coaches of celebrated cricketers Surya Kumar of Mumbai Indians (MI) and KL Rahul of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), depicting their heartfelt tributes to their first coaches, who played pivotal roles in shaping their careers. From the vibrant streets to the electrifying stadiums, these films capture the profound gratitude and emotion exchanged between players and mentors. The campaign also encourages fans to participate by expressing gratitude to their own first coaches, highlighting the transformative power of appreciation in nurturing talent and fostering aspirations.

This year it’s the first coaches of the stars of cricket. Our starting point was a simple question, when fans cheer for the players every time they play their famous shots, do they really know who would have helped them develop that shot before they become popular? We simply wanted to acknowledge these GURUs of the game and nudge the country to thank them for their contribution towards the game, moreover towards turning our favourite players into stars.”

Wavemaker India chief client officer & office head, West, North & East Shekhar Banerjee mentioned “Cadbury Dairy Milk’s latest campaign stands as a testament to the often overlooked heroes behind our cricketing legends—their first coaches. Furthermore, as a gesture of appreciation, the brand is extending an exclusive invitation to the first coaches of every IPL player to join them in the family box during matches. Here, cricketers will have the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and thank their coaches, symbolically bowing to them in recognition of their invaluable contribution to their journey. This unique experience not only celebrates the unsung heroes of cricket but also fosters a sense of connection and gratitude within the sporting community.

  • Kevin Pietersen Talks about the IPL’s Final Week

Kevin Pietersen Talks about the IPL’s Final Week

This season of the Indian Premier League witnessed some high voltage clashes as debutantes Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants began to entertain us.

Gujrat Titans bagged the most wins so far compared to others. The team won 10 out of 14 matches and has successfully lived up to the hopes of its fans.

On it, the Former England Captain – Kevin Pieterson – also mentions that the Hardik Pandya led team will be tough-to-beat in this IPL playoffs.

It’s worth noting that Gujrat Titans’ continuing wins have become a matter of concern for opponent teams.

And that makes Kevin Pieterson stay more confident about Gujarat Titans.

“Gujrat Titans are Difficult to Stop”

The legendary England Batman adds more words to appreciate the continuing success of the Gujrat Titans. The team equips a winning attitude, making them so good at getting things done pretty well on the ground.

Beyond a doubt, it is going to be tough to break Gujrat Titans – he added. Kevin Pietersen even compares their performance with Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals, who have won the 2008 IPL championship.

Keving thinks the Gujarat players also adopted a winning attitude for the game and won the trophy with a wonderful mentality in the end. A similar reflection can be viewed in Gujrat Titans this time.

Few Other Good Names Covered in the Winning list of Kevin Pietersen

Apart from Gujrat Titans, Kevin Pietersen firmly believed in Royal Challengers Bangalore in its match  against Lucknow Super Giants.

Delhi Capitals were few other big names in the Kevin List but unfortunately they failed to qualify in the next stage of the league after losing by five wickets against Mumbai Indians.

Neither Delhi Capitals nor Mumbai Indians were lucky enough to play in the playoffs.

However, Rajasthan Royals have showcased some of the best moves this time and will get a second chance of making it to the final.

Kevin Pietersen mentions that despite the fact that Chennai Super Kings is also a tough competition, their winning chances were already less this season. They might have won 4 trophies so far, but their transition didn’t have that magic this time and went out in IPL Season 2022.

    Wrapping up

The four teams Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants have successfully made it to the playoff.

But in the end, Titans made direct entry to the finale to compete with Royals who have been riding their luck through the group stage so far. But as Hardik Pandya led Gujrat Titans are favorites to lift the trophy this season.
