  • Sony and LiveU zoom in on future with bonded IP breakthrough at IBC 2025

Sony and LiveU zoom in on future with bonded IP breakthrough at IBC 2025

MUMBAI: When Sony meets LiveU, the broadcast world gets a sharper focus. At IBC 2025, the two tech titans announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration that promises to change how stories get from the field to the newsroom fast, reliable, and without the usual workflow headaches.

The star of the show? The new LiveU TX1, a compact transmission unit built specifically for Sony’s professional camera range. Think of it as a tiny powerhouse: it clips neatly onto cameras like Sony’s freshly launched PXW-Z300, turning them into mobile broadcast hubs. With its small form factor, TX1 slashes production timelines by offering ultra-fast file transfers and bonded IP connectivity on the go.

At its core is LiveU’s patented LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) protocol, famed for keeping live feeds smooth, stable, and sharp even in tricky conditions. By combining multiple network connections, TX1 ensures resilient video performance that broadcasters can actually trust for mission-critical operations.

“Our customers want to be able to deliver files shot on camcorders from wherever the story takes them, back to their galleries, easily, swiftly and reliably,” said Sony Corporation head of media solutions business Masakazu Murata. “Through our collaboration with LiveU, the leading company in video-over-bonded-IP transmission, we are now able to offer customers a workflow integrated with Sony’s ecosystem even for mission-critical operations that require bonding. We look forward to working with LiveU to further streamline workflows and make a significant contribution to the broadcast industry.”

LiveU CEO and co-founder Samuel Wasserman said, “We are proud to announce this important collaboration with Sony, the global leader in electronics, gaming, entertainment, and imaging technologies. This partnership represents a strong vote of confidence in LiveU’s cutting-edge technology and the innovation we bring and will continue to bring to the market. I would like to thank the Sony team for their professional and collaborative spirit and wish us all great success on our shared journey.”

The deal signals more than just a shiny new gadget. It’s the start of a broader roadmap where Sony’s camera heritage and LiveU’s connectivity know-how combine to shape the next phase of broadcast production. Journalists, content creators, and live producers can expect fewer cables, faster turnaround, and workflows that keep pace with the news cycle.

While the TX1 made its debut at IBC 2025, broadcast professionals will need a little patience: the unit will be available through Sony’s accredited distributors and resellers, with release details scheduled for 2026.

For now, though, one thing is clear, when it comes to capturing the moment and sending it back in real time, Sony and LiveU are keeping the world’s broadcasters firmly in the picture.

  • LiveU powers seamless streaming of Rolex Fastnet Race centenary sail

LiveU powers seamless streaming of Rolex Fastnet Race centenary sail

MUMBAI: To fully immerse sailing fans in the world’s biggest offshore yacht race, production company, Optical Media turned to LiveU’s On-site Production solution to provide live streamed coverage of the Rolex Fastnet Race. Starting in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, on 26th July and finishing in Cherbourg, France, after rounding the Fastnet Rock off the southwest coast of Ireland, the 2025 biennial event marked its Centenary year and saw more boats participating than ever before. Building on the successful broadcast of the start of the race in 2023, Optical Media further extended its use of LiveU’s live production solutions with the addition of LiveU IQ (LIQ™) to deliver the best available cellular connectivity in this most challenging environment.

In order to fully capture the excitement as the 3,000 sailors prepared to take on this immense endeavour, Optical Media produced a 15-minute build-up show. The team then live streamed the start of each class, showing the many challenges the crews have to manage, as these huge boats jostle to get the best position at the Royal Yacht Squadron start line – without colliding or accruing a two-hour penalty for setting sail too early. Coverage of the race was broadcast live to the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s YouTube channel and to two European broadcasters.

Optical Media deployed several LiveU LU600 units to live stream in 4K including one on a high-speed RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) equipped with a specialised stabilised camera system. The RIB followed the fleet as they powered across the Solent delivering close-up footage of crews pushing to secure prime positions. LiveU’s LIQ, which dynamically and intelligently switches mobile network operators to provide the highest performing set of cellular connections available, was used on the RIB to ensure a reliable signal would be maintained in these most demanding circumstances chasing the fleet at up to 15-20 knots.

Optical Media director James Light says, “We certainly never lost the connection on the RIB. I think the LIQ service is very strong and to put it in these challenging conditions proves to me that it really works. It was able to identify whatever key network was there and present it the whole time. I think part of the success this year must go down to LIQ’s capability to react in real-time to changes in network conditions. It’s a weather-proof solution that gives you the best set of options.”

To complement this dynamic coverage, a second LiveU unit was strategically placed at Egypt Point, which is a pivotal vantage near to the start line, while a third unit provided elevated shots from a hilltop framed with the picturesque Hurst Castle in the background.

Optical Media also used LiveU’s LU-Link, which enables a plug-and-play cloud service as part of LiveU’s on-site production solution. LU-Link eliminates the need for a custom firewall configuration, enabling the LiveU server to be hosted seamlessly on an unmanaged network. Light adds, “It’s like magic. Using LU-Link we can plug into any network, we just pop the rack in the OB van, which is parked next to the Royal Squadron Building, and off we go. It just works.”

For the first time Optical Media deployed LiveU’s Audio Connect intercom system.

Light explains, “The team could plug in their headphone ports connected via a jack extender onboard the RIB, at Egypt Point and Hurst Castle and they were able to hear crystal clear director comms in real-time. There was no messing around with phones or other more complicated audio systems, which was critical for me. It was a big help and I certainly wouldn’t do this project without it in future.”

He concludes, “I believe our methodology as a production business is to find the best available tools for the job in hand, based on a range of factors including budget, complexity and scenario. Together with the LiveU team we find solutions that work in challenging environments so that we can bring viewers closer to the action. LiveU opens opportunities for us to talk to clients about how we can tell stories in different ways.”

LiveU sales director for UK Matthew Stringer adds, “This project is one of the more challenging real-world deployments of LiveU IQ, which demonstrated the unmatched power and real-time network diversity LIQ can deliver. Live streaming from the Solent is notoriously challenging due to network conditions, yet LIQ delivered a rock-solid signal throughout. The Rolex Fastnet Race is a prestigious event and by working closely with James and his team, we ensured they had simple plug-and-play LiveU production tools that maximize both productivity and creative freedom no matter how difficult the conditions.”

  • From Trackside to Global Fans: LiveU Transforms Tabcorp – Sky Racing Coverage through Remote Production

From Trackside to Global Fans: LiveU Transforms Tabcorp – Sky Racing Coverage through Remote Production

MUMBAI  LiveU, a leader in live IP-video and remote production solutions, today announced the successful implementation of its comprehensive IP remote production solution at Tabcorp – Sky Racing, transforming how Australia’s leading betting and entertainment company broadcasts live horse racing events. Sky Racing shares its live feeds with audiences worldwide, including viewers in Hong Kong, United States, and Europe.

Covering over 160,000 live horse races per year – broadcasting live on 150 channels on a huge range of formats (linear and digital) – Sky Racing also produces its own content. Using LiveU’s IP remote production solution, it now broadcasts horse races from eight tracks in Queensland (QLD) with high quality, low latency and resilient transmissions, managed from its central production hub in Brisbane. The remote production set-up has eliminated the need for traditional SNG trucks, Outside Broadcast trucks and full on-site crews, substantially reducing travel, accommodation, and equipment costs.

At its more remote locations Sky Racing has been able to reduce its costs by almost 80% by removing the whole satellite process and using LiveU. They’ve also reduced the need to send expensive OB trucks all over the state as they have moved to a model where they have designed a remote modular rack system with LiveU encoders installed in all their venues. The rack system can be turned on and tested remotely and from there the live feeds come directly into their centralized broadcasting hub. The production team can log in and support the system from anywhere in the world. Having a centralized hub has allowed further cost savings with certain staff being able to multitask between multiple venues (Director, CCU, Replay and Technicians for example).

“LiveU’s remote production solution has transformed how we deliver live races in Queensland for aggregation and distribution to our domestic and international markets,” said Jamie Ford, Technical Operations Manager – QLD, Tabcorp – Sky Racing. “By deploying their LU810 encoders across our tracks and using our production hub in Brisbane, we’ve achieved what was previously unthinkable – maintaining broadcast quality while significantly reducing operational costs and complexity. The system’s resilience and low latency, with seamless cellular backup and flexible return feeds, ensures we never miss a moment of action while maintaining the feeds needed in both directions.”

LiveU’s solution features LiveU’s multi-cam LU810 fixed encoders at each race track, supporting primary transmission of between 8 to 16 cameras (or other sources) per location, over high-speed WAN, sending up to four signals per device. For an extra layer of resilience, a cost-effective backup solution is in place using both LU810 encoders and separate LU810-M (modem) encoders connected via cellular. This set-up leverages the public internet for baseline reliability and can instantly switch to cellular if needed, removing the requirement for costly SNG backup trucks.

Production teams stay in sync between the field and the hub using LiveU’s remote production tools, including Video Return, Audio Connect, and IP Pipe. From the central production hub, teams can monitor up to 36 live camera feeds from eight different race tracks simultaneously with LiveU’s Transceiver letting operators customize and control return feeds for each track independently.

Ryan Osinga, Manager, Technical Services and Solutions, Tabcorp – Sky Racing, summed up, “We’ve ended up with a product that is cheaper, more reliable, and more resilient, it’s got more features, lower latency and we have a significant reduction in costs. For us the LiveU solution ticked every single box that we had.”

“Tabcorp went all-in on remote production for Sky Racing and we worked very closely with them to ensure that the solution was adapted to their production needs,” said Chris Dredge, Country & Sales Manager, LiveU Pacific. “The flexibility of the LiveU EcoSystem meant that we could devise an innovative workflow that worked for them, optimizing their resources on-the-ground and centrally. It’s a great use case for multi-venue events and we’re already seeing potential for similar projects elsewhere.”

LiveU & Grass Valley to offer cloud solutions for remote live productions

NEW DELHI: LiveU and Grass Valley have joined forces to offer a pre-integrated cloud-based solution for remote live productions, enabling customers to simplify their processes and automate live and non-live news and sports productions in an efficient, agile and customisable workflow.

LiveU’s co-founder and COO Avi Cohen, said, “With the ongoing shift to cloud production, we are committed to helping our customers maximise these new efficiencies, delivering our live video solutions as-a-service with pre-integrated workflows. Our collaboration with Grass Valley offers customers a highly efficient, flexible and scalable set of tools for going live from the field, providing greater flexibility to adapt to the needs of each and every story, giving a richer viewing experience. Remote live production can be orchestrated from anywhere via LiveU’s and Grass Valley’s integrated cloud environments, or using a hybrid model of choice, integrating high-quality live video feeds with smart automated production capabilities.”

The collaboration facilitates live production, and news and asset management, in specific ways, helping to simplify the processes and speed up live broadcasts with compelling content. High-quality live feeds can be sent from any of LiveU’s field units for remote switching and live production using LiveU’s cloud solution with Grass Valley’s GV AMPP (Agile Media Processing Platform), the first cloud-based SaaS platform for broadcast to fully leverage the power of elastic compute. Built for the cloud from the start, GV AMPP is specifically designed to overcome broadcasters’ long-time reliance on costly and inflexible hardware-based media systems and provides a modular approach to everyday media workflows.

In addition, live feeds from LiveU units can be integrated into the GV STRATUS news and asset management tool to streamline the remote news gathering and production workflow. Utilising LiveU’s live video metadata to automate the process and provide metadata enriched assets within GV STRATUS, users can quickly search, browse, edit and publish content – live or file – using a range of smart search criteria and via the smart rules’ engine.

Grass Valley CEO and president Tim Shoulders said, “As our customers strive to deliver the captivating content and high production values that consumers demand, the GVTA gives them access to trusted solutions that are tested and configured to ensure interoperability with Grass Valley’s solutions – one of the major hurdles our customers face when deploying multi-vendor systems.”
