  • Battle for 2nd spot intense among Hindi GECs

    Mumbai: The fight for the second spot among Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) is intense. Zee TV, Sony Entertainment Television (Set) and Colors are separated from each other by just a few points, with Star Plus ahead of the pack.

    As per TAM data (HSM, C&S, 4+) for week 38, provided by Hindi GECs, Star Plus is the leader with 252 GRPs (last week 250 gross ratings points). The fiction shows of the channel have not seen much change in viewership except ‘Diya Aur Bati Hum’ which notched 6 TVR (last week 5.3 TVR) in the week ended 22 September.

    Second in the Hindi GEC hierarchy is Zee TV that winded up its dancing property ‘Dance Ke Superkids’ on 23 September (Sunday). The Saturday (22 September) episode of the show, which was part of the finale week, clocked 4.3 TVR. The channel lost five GRPs to close the week with 235 GRPs. Its fiction properties like ‘Pavitra Rishta’ (3.1 TVR) and ‘Punarvivaha’ (2.5 TVR) have seen slight dip in the viewership.

    Just two GRPs behind Zee TV is Colors that added three GRPs to end the week with 233 GRPs (previous week 230). Its reality property ‘India‘s Got Talent’ opened with a 4.1 TVR on 22 September. The show had debuted with 3.9 TVR in its last season. ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ that will air its finale this weekend recorded 2.8 TVR (last week 3.2 TVR) in week 38. ‘Balika Vadhu’ continues to be the leading show of the channel with 4.5 TVR.

    Set continues to be a strong fighter with 232 GRPs (previous week 230). Its popular fiction show, ‘Bade Achche Lagte Hain’, rated 4.7 TVR (last week 3.9), as the lead protagonists Ram and Priya meet each other after five years. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ averaged 3.9 TVR. Its other shows like ‘Kuch to log kahenge’ (1.4 TVR), ‘Kya Hua Tera Vada’ (1.8 TVR) and ‘Parwarish’ (1.6 TVR) saw growth in eyeballs.

    Meanwhile, despite the loss of six GRPs, Sab has jumped back to No.5 spot on the GEC ladder. Life OK with 124 GRPs (last week 167) follows. The channel had fetched its highest ratings last week on the back of the grand episode of ‘Mahadev’ that got this year’s highest rating of 8.2 TVR.

    Sahara One with 29 GRPs (last week 34) is at the bottom of the ladder.

    The Hindi GECs were hit by the cricket T20 World Cup which kicked off on 18 September. The combined GRPs from Hindi GECs fell to 1271 from 1322 as the T20 matches were telecast live during evening prime time.

  • Life OK achieves its all-time high ratings

    MUMBAI: Life OK, the second Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from the Star Network stable, has recorded its highest rating of 167 GRPs. The channel, which had opened with 87 GRPs in December 2011, has come a long way and its popular mythological show ‘Mahadev‘ has contributed immensely in its journey.

    As per TAM data (HSM, C&S, 4+) provided by Hindi GECs, though there is no change in Life OK‘s position on GEC ladder (at No.5 in the hierarchy) but it added 26 GRPs to its last week‘s tally. The success can be attributed to the telecast of ‘Mahaepisode‘ of ‘Mahadev‘ on 9 September. The special episode of the show ran for an hour and garnered 8.2 TVR, highest recorded rating of any show in this year. The show averaged around 3.1 TVR as compared to 2.9 TVR in the previous week.

    Star Plus is back as the leader of the flock. The channel has maintained status quo with 250 GRPs in the week ended 15 September. Its fiction shows continue to garner good numbers as ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum‘ (5.3 TVR) continues to be the most watched show on Indian television.

    Despite the loss of 11 GRPs, taking the second leadership position is Zee TV. The fiction shows of the channel like Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke (2.1 TVR), Rab Se Sona Ishq (1.4 TVR), Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein (2.2 TVR) have seen a marginal drop in their ratings. However, ‘Dance Ke Superkids‘ (4.6 TVR) continues to fetch increased eyeballs and is the highest rated show on the weekend prime-time.

    There is a tie at the No. 3 position of GEC ranking. Both Colors and Sony Entertainment Television (Set) have notched 230 GRPs each. Colors added a GRP while Set ended the week with a loss of 14 GRPs.

    Colors‘ ‘Balika Vadhu‘ has been holding onto its No.2 position in the ‘Top 10 shows‘ with 4.7 TVR (last week 5.1). It replaced ‘Saas Bina Sasural‘ on the channel; its last rating was recorded 1 TVR. The new season of the channel‘s laughter reality show Comedy Circus titled ‘Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe‘ opened with 3.3 TVR on 9 September.

    Set‘s new fiction property ‘Honge Juda na hum‘, which launched on 10 September, opened with a 1 TVR. It replaced ‘Saas Bina Sasural‘ on the channel, last rating of which was recorded 1 TVR. The new season of the channel‘s laughter reality show Comedy Circus titled ‘Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe‘ opened with 3.3 TVR on 9 September.

    ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 6‘ saw a drop in its ratings in the following week. Though it opened with a 6.1 on 7 September (Friday), it clocked 3.9 TVR on 14 September (Friday). The Saturday (15 September) episode of the show rated 4.8 TVR while the Sunday episode (9 September) fetched 4.2 TVR.

    The next in the GEC ladder is Sab that added a GRP to close the week with 137 GRPs.

    Sahara-One with 34 GRPs (last week 36 GRPs) follows.

  • Zee TV shoots up to no 1, Sony sets new GRP record

    MUMBAI: Zee TV has successfully battled the storm of new show launches on rival channels and has emerged as the leading Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) again, after a gap of two weeks.

    Zee TV added 24 GRPs to its last week’s tally to end the week with 251 GRPs. The channel had aired ‘Mahasangram’ of its fiction shows from 8.30 -10 pm on 7 September that rated an average of 3.5 TVR and contributed around 10.5 GRPs to its kitty. Other fiction shows on the channel have also seen an improvement in ratings.

    “Zee has seen tremendous success with DID and the format has clicked well with the audiences ensuring repeat viewership for all their formats. The battle at the top 3 stands with a few GRPs differentiating the number one position and this looks like a weekly tug of war that we will see in the weeks to come,” says Mindshare principal partner -client leadership Anita Kotwani.

    Though just a GRP away from Zee TV, Star Plus lost 15 GRPs to close the week with 250 GRPs. Its fiction properties like ‘Diya Aur Bati Hum’, ‘Teri Meri Love Story’ have seen dips in viewership.

    Placed at No 3 is Sony Entertainment Television (Set) that has registered 244 GRPs (last week 210) in the week 36 of 2012 on the back of the launch of its biggest prime-time property ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ that has opened with 6.1 TVR. This is channel’s highest recorded rating in this year.

    Taking the No 4 spot on the ladder is Colors, which was the number 2 channel last week in the genre. Its newly launched reality show, Sahara-One’s ‘Sur-Kshetra’, opened with 1.2 TVR on 8 September. The other fiction properties of the channel have also shaved some viewership numbers. However ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Ja’ clocked a 3.4 TVR (last week 2.8). Colors reported 229 GRPs (last week 244) in the week ended 8 September.

    Life OK too reached its all time high ratings of this year. The channel that had opened with 87 GRPs in December 2011, recorded 141 GRPs (last week 132). Its mythological property ‘Mahadev’ continues to garner eyeballs and is averaging 3+ TVR.

    Following Life OK is Sab that added five GRPs to notch up 136 GRPs.

    Sahara-One maintained its position at No. 6, while adding one GRP to last week’s total of 35. ‘Sur-Kshetra’ – which it simulcasting with Colors – opened with a 0.3 TVR on the channel. Sahara-One had aired the singing reality show back-to-back on the day of the launch. The second airing of the show clocked 0.2 TVR.

  • IIFA boosts Star Plus’ ratings; Zee TV surges to No. 2

    MUMBAI: Buoyed by the telecast of the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) awards, Star Plus jumped 33 GRPs to pocket 298 GRPs (gross rating points) in the week ended 7 July.

    The IIFA Awards that aired for three and half hours fetched 4.7 TVR, according to TAM data (C&S, HSM, 4+) provided by Hindi GECs.

    Incidentally, the 13th IIFA Awards is the second-highest rated Bollywood award show on Indian television in 2012. The highest rating was recorded by Colors‘ Screen Awards that garnered 5.37 TVR. Other premium award properties are Zee TV’s Zee Cine Awards that registered 4.38 TVR on Zee TV and Filmfare Awards that fetched 4.59 TVR on Sony Entertainment Television. Colors’ second awards property, The Apsara Producers Guild Awards, registered 1.4 TVR in its first airing.

    Meanwhile, after a gap of four weeks, Zee TV is back at No.2 in the GEC hierarchy. The channel added 27 GRPs to its previous week’s tally to close the week ended 7 July with 238 GRPs. Almost all of its shows have seen improvement in viewership, though DID Li’l Masters lost numbers.

    Its recently launched horror show, Fear Files, continued to register 3+ TVR. Additionally, Zee TV’s fiction property Punarvivaha has become the leader of the 10.30 pm slot.

    Meanwhile, Colors has slipped to No.3 with a loss of seven GRPs and has ended the week with 225 GRPs. Colors’ highest rate fiction show Balika Vadhu’s ratings dropped from 4.4 TVR to 3.9 TVR while Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa rated an average of 1.8 TVR.

    Sony Entertainment Television (Set) added 13 GRPs to end with 207 GRPs. The channel has started airing three of its shows – C.I.D, Crime Patrol and Adalat – on Sundays.

    Sab, with addition of four GRPs, closed the week with 125 GRPs while Life OK added two GRPs to end with 103 GRPs.

    Sahara One with 31 GRPs (last week 42) is at the bottom of the ladder.

  • Hindi GECs slide in 2nd week after IPL

    MUMBAI: The Hindi general entertainment genre has not managed to hold ground in the second week after the closure of the IPL this year. In the first week post IPL, the genre had gained 30 GRPs.

    As per TAM data for week ended 9 June (data sourced from Hindi GECs) for the Hindi speaking markets (C&S, 4+), all the GECs have lost eyeballs barring Life OK, the second GEC offering from Star India.

    Star Plus maintains its lead position with 270 GRPs (gross rating points) amid a loss of 2 GRPs from the preceding week. However, Zee TV, Colors and Sony Entertainment Television (Set) are caught in a cut-throat battle.

    The three channels are only apart by 3 points with Zee TV at 203 GRPs, followed by Set (201 GRPs) and Colors (200 GRPs). The three channels lost 30 GRPs, 21 GRPs and 4 GRPs respectively.

    Maintaining its fifth position, Life OK has added 10 GRPs to take its total to 122 (GRPs) in the week. Sab collects 120 GRPs (last week 121).

    Sahara One loses 10 GRPs to score 31 GRPs in the week ended 9 June.

  • Life OK topples Sab, touches high of 123 GRPs

    MUMBAI: Star India’s gamble of ceasing non-performing second rung Hindi general entertainment channel Star One and starting afresh with a channel sans Star branding is paying off.

    Life OK, the second Hindi GEC channel from the Star stable, has reached its all time high with 123 GRPs (gross rating points) in the week ended 19 May.

    As per Tam data for the Hindi speaking markets (C&S, 4+), the channel has added 33 GRPs in the week. It has also overtaken Multi Screen Media’s second Hindi GEC Sab to capture the fifth position on the GEC ladder.

    “We are happy that within six months of launch we have reached so far. What is important is that viewers are connecting to our core philosophy of ‘appreciating what we have’. All our shows are highlighting a cause or issue and viewers are appreciating it,” Life OK GM Ajit Thakur told Indiantelevision.com.

    He added that despite very big shows, it’s the “philosophy and disruptive strategy” which is working for the channel.

    For Life OK, its mythological show Devon Ke Dev Mahadev remained the top gainer. With the high point during the week, the average weekly ratings of the show surged from 1.1 TVR in the last week to 2.3 TVR in the week ended 19 May.

    Also, Saubhagyawati Bhava’s average ratings have gone up to 1.4 TVR from 1.1 TVR in the previous week.

    Thakur said that in the coming week, two shows – Saubhagyawati Bhava and Mai Laxmi Tere Aangan Ki – will have high points, which will further give a peak to the channel. The channel will also have a week-long special of Savdhan India.

    Thakur said that Star India has allowed the channel to take big risks and that he has the youngest team with passion and commitment to run the channel, which is helping in growing it.

    Launched on 18 December last year, Life OK had debuted with 87 GRPs in its kitty.

    Meanwhile, a look at the other channels’ scorecard:

    Star Plus maintained its lead, even if it lost 14 GRPs during the week. The channel ended the week with 262 GRPs. Satyamev Jayate rated 4.4 TVR in HSM markets (All 4+, HSM) and a national TVR of 3.7 (All 4+, All India).

    These are simulcast ratings of the original episode aired on Sunday morning 11 am across nine channels (Star Plus, Star Pravah, Star Jalsha, Star World, Star Utsav, Star Vijay, Asianet, ETV Telegu and Doordarshan).

    Four of its primetime shows found place among the top 10 shows on the Hindi GECs.

    Zee TV and Colors shared second spot with 213 GRPs each. While Colors added 12 GRPs to its last week’s tally, Zee TV lost 11 GRPs.

    Zee TV’s DID Li’L Masters and its auditions episode featured in the top 10 shows while Colors had only Balika Vadhu in the list.

    Sony Entertainment Television (Set) followed with 210 GRPs, losing seven GRPs during the week.

    Sab was the biggest loser in the week. It lost 15 GRPs and slipped below Life OK to end the week at 116 GRPs (last week 131 GRPs).

    Sahara One maintained its status quo with 39 GRPs (last week 40), while Imagine TV, which has ceased original programming, closed the week with 2 GRPs.

  • DID Li’l Masters lifts Zee TV to No. 2

    MUMBAI: Helped by the kids version of its popular dance reality show Dance India Dance, Zee TV has added 29 GRPs (gross rating points) to its last week‘s scorecard, narrowing the gap with the Hindi GEC leader Star Plus.

    Zee TV is now 23 GRPs away from Star Plus, but this gap could widen once again next week as the Aamir Khan Sunday morning show Satyamev Jayate is expected to get blockbuster debut ratings.

    As per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S) for week ended 5 May, Zee TV recorded 239 GRPs and has climbed back to the second position. Interestingly, Dance India Dance Li’l Master 2 audition has garnered 6.2 TVR. Since its debut last week, DID Li’l Masters has captured the top position among the Hindi GECs. The show premiered on 28 April with a 5.8 TVR.

    According to Zee TV, the second season of the show has beaten the launch day ratings of all other non-fiction shows in the last one year, including Sony’s Kaun Banega Crorepati (5.2 TVR), Jhalak Dikhla Ja- 4 (4.1 TVR) and Star Plus’ Just Dance (3.7 TVR).

    Zee TV’s fiction show Pavitra Rishta (3.47 TVR) has also seen improvement in ratings and has become the sixth most watched show.

    Star Plus continued to lead the genre with an addition of seven GRPs. The channel closed the week with 262 GRPs. Five of its fiction shows are in the ‘Top 10 shows’ list.

    Sony Entertainment Television (Set) slipped back to No. 3, losing 20 GRPs to end with 220 points. In the last week, the channel had aired 3Idiots, which had helped it retain its No. 2 position. Set’s crime-based shows, C.I.D (3.37 TVR) and Crime Petrol (3.34 TVR) have slipped to the bottom of the Top 10 shows ladder.

    Colors, meanwhile, has settled at No. 4, maintaining its 195 GRPs. Balika Vadhu was the only show from the channel that found its place among the top 10. Once the No. 1 show, Balika Vadhu stood at No. 5 with 3.66 TVR.

    Sab, the second GEC from Sony, lost 6 GRPs to clock 104 points. Star‘s second GEC, Life OK, added two GRPs to end the week with 85 GRPs.

    Sahara One with 41 GRPs (43 GRPs) remained at the bottom of the ladder.

    MUMBAI: Zee TV, which had reached to the second spot last week after a gap of one year, has slumped back to No. 4.

    As per TAM data (C&S, 4+, HSM) for week ended 31 March, Zee TV saw a dip of 14 GRPs (gross rating points) to close the week with 200 points. A majority of fiction shows of the channel have lost eyeballs.

    Leading GEC, Star Plus, has also seen a fall of 29 GRPs to clock 289 points during the week. The channel had crossed the 300 GRP-mark last week on the back of Star Parivaar Awards 2012 that had clocked 6.41 TVR. Star Plus launched its singing reality show, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar’ on 31 March, which opened with a 0.8 TVR.

    Sony Entertainment Television (Set) has jumped to No. 2 this week. The channel added 8 GRPs to end the week with 217 GRPs (last week 209). The channel’s non-fiction shows, C.I.D (3.99 TVR) and Crime Petrol (4.80 TVR), continue to be in the list of top 10 shows on Hindi GECs.

    Occupying the third place is Colors. The channel saw a rise in ratings, ending the week with 205 GRPs (200 GRP). Its leading fiction show Balika Vadhu has seen an improvement and was the third most watched show on a Hindi GEC.

    Next in the list are Sab and Life OK which added 8 GRPs each and clocked 140 GRPs and 82 GRPs respectively.

    Imagine TV with 54 GRPs (last week 62) and Sahara One with 53 GRPs (last week 43) are fighting neck-and-neck at the bottom of the heap.

    MUMBAI: Zee TV has made it to the top 3 after seven months.

    As per TAM data (C&S, HSM, 4+), in the week ended 25 February, Zee TV marched to the third spot among the Hindi GECs as it added 43 GRPs (gross rating points) to its previous week‘s tally to end the week with 222 GRPs.

    All the fiction shows of the channel saw an improvement in ratings. It also launched a new fiction property, Punarvivaha, on 20 February that opened with 2.7 TVR and averaged 2.6 TVR during the week. The channel also reduced the ad break duration of some of its shows.

    Meanwhile, this is for the first time after August 2008, Colors, the flagship channel from the Viacom18 stable, has dropped to No. 4 on the GEC ladder. The channel, which launched on 21 July 2008, recorded 200 GRPs (last week 193) in the week.

    Leading GEC, Star Plus, though continues to be on top even after losing 19 GRPs. The channel from Star Network bouquet ended the week with 279 GRPs (last week 298).

    Sony Entertainment Channel (Set) attracted more eyeballs and maintained its number two position in the ratings chart. It added 17 GRPs and ended the week with 227 GRPs (last week 210). The channel aired Filmfare Awards 2011 on 19 February that garnered 4.59 TVR.

    Second GEC from Sony Entertainment Network, Sab, lost points and registered 134 GRPs (last week 141) while Life OK from Star Network stable added three points and ended the week with 81 GRPs (last week 78).

    Imagine TV added 5 GRPs and closed the week with 63 GRPs (last week 58).

    Meanwhile, Sahara One — for the first time in three years — crossed the 50 GRP-mark. The channel gained 9 GRPs to record 53 GRPs (last week 44). The channel has launched a new horror band and both the shows – Haunted Nights and Yeh Kaali Kaali Raatein – opened with a 0.6 TVR.

    MUMBAI: Leading Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from Star Network bouquet, Star Plus, has gained 25 GRPs in the week ended 18 February.

    As per TAM data (C&S, 4+, HSM), the channel has clocked 298 GRPs (gross rating points), up from 273 GRPs in the previous week. The addition of the points can be attributed to the telecast of ‘mahaepisode’ of Star Plus’ fiction property Yeh Rishta Kyaa Kehlata Hai on 18 February that recorded 3.7 TVR.

    Star Plus also aired Bodyguard on Sunday that registered 1.8 TVR. The top fiction shows of the channel have also seen an improvement in performance.

    Meanwhile, Sony Entertainment Television has maintained its second rank, even though it added just one GRP to end the week with 210 GRPs. The channel is expected to show a rise in ratings next week as it telecast Filmfare Awards on 19 February.

    However, Colors and Zee TV lost eyeballs and closed the week with 193 GRPs (last week 208) and 179 GRPs (last week 202) respectively. Both the channels slipped below the 200-GRP mark.

    Colors had added 18 GRPs last week with the telecast of special programme Umang, while Zee TV had a boost of over 32 GRPs on the back of Zee Cine Awards 2012.

    Sony’s second GEC, Sab, lost one GRP to clock 141 GRPs while Star Network’s sibling channel Life OK lost 9 GRPs to end the week with 78 GRPs (last week 87).

    Imagine TV with 58 GRPs (last week 57) is next in the ladder.
