India’s monuments get a colourful glow-up with Birla Opus campaign

MUMBAI: What do you get when a curious little boy meets an unclickable monument? A splash of imagination, a burst of colour and a nation reminded of its timeless beauty. Birla Opus Paints, under Grasim Industries of the Aditya Birla Group, has launched the next chapter of its “Duniya Ko Rang Do” story with a stunning new campaign titled Celebrating Colours of India.

This time, the animated Opus Boy returns to brighten not just walls but history itself, beginning with the Gateway of India. In the film, a disheartened street photographer struggles to draw attention to the monument. That’s when our pint-sized hero steps in with a colourful transformation giving the colonial arch a vibrant makeover that captivates onlookers and rekindles national pride.

The campaign showcases the power of paint to transform not only spaces but also perspectives. It builds on the emotional tone and animation style of the earlier brand launch, but dials it up to a national scale turning iconic monuments into canvases of creativity.

“The film reinforces the influence of colours and our commitment to beautify spaces while contributing to the national spirit and pride,” said Birla Opus Paints CEO Rakshit Hargave.

Taking the message a step further, Birla Opus Paints head of marketing Inderpreet Singh added, “By showcasing the potential of our paints with places of heritage and deep cultural significance, we aim to create a powerful story of hope reminding every Indian of the beauty around them.”

Crafted by Leo India and brought to visual life by Brazil’s Zombie Studios, the film uses rich 3D animation to set an immersive mood. “The grandeur and timelessness of the Gateway make it a perfect canvas,” said Leo India chief creative officer Sachin Kamble. “It’s about inspiring viewers to see the familiar through a transformative lens.”

The campaign is now live across TV, digital, print, radio, and OOH. And yes, the Gateway of India may be made of stone, but Opus shows us how it can still make hearts bloom.

Ikea rolls out the rainbow rug with ‘Welcome everyone with Pride’ campaign

MUMBAI: Ikea India is kicking off Pride Month with a splash of colour and a bold message—everyone is welcome, starting right at the front door. Its new campaign, ‘Welcome Everyone with Pride’, reimagines the humble doormat as a symbol of allyship with the launch of ‘PILLEMARK’ — a rainbow-coloured mat that’s part décor, part declaration.

Created by Leo India, the accompanying film puts the mat at the centre of the story — showing how a simple object can quiet the questions many LGBTQIA+ individuals face when entering new spaces: Will I be accepted? Am I safe here? The answer, in this case, is literally underfoot.

Commenting on the video, country integrated media manager, Jayendra Gupta said, “At IKEA, we believe that a true sense of home goes beyond four walls; it’s about feeling accepted, respected, and free to be yourself. With PILLEMARK, we are encouraging people to take a small but powerful step to show that their homes are safe spaces for all. This film is an invitation to every ally, every neighbour, every family to open their hearts, their homes and welcome everyone with pride.”

“The idea was to enable people to feel welcome even before the door opens. And with PILLEMARK, we got that opportunity. Our attempt was to turn the everyday welcome mat into an everyday movement for inclusion so India could turn their quiet belief into a visible sign of allyship,” said Leo India national creative director Pravin Sutar.

The campaign is picking up steam on social media, with creators and community voices joining the chorus and showing off their rainbow welcome. Because at Ikea this Pride, it’s not just about opening doors — it’s about opening minds.

  • India ends Cannes Lions 2025 on a high, bags 32 metals in a roaring run

India ends Cannes Lions 2025 on a high, bags 32 metals in a roaring run

MUMBAI: India wrapped up its Cannes Lions 2025 campaign in style, pocketing a cool 32 Lions—nearly double last year’s tally of 18. The final medal, a Silver Lion on Day 5, came in the Sustainable Development Goals category for BBDO India’s long-running Ariel #ShareTheLoad campaign. It capped a festival that saw Indian agencies sprint, leap and roar across the Croisette.

The BBDO campaign, now a decade-old crusade challenging patriarchal laundry norms, was hailed for its creative consistency and cultural clout. Josy Paul, chairperson and chief creative officer at BBDO India—also this year’s SDG Lions jury president—called it “a movement, not just a message.” Well, the jury agreed.

Though Day 5 brought just the one metal, the closing spotlight stayed firmly on impact. FCB India’s blockbuster “Lucky Yatra” for Indian Railways, already a Grand Prix and multi-Gold winner, made the Titanium shortlist but didn’t convert. The Womb’s nostalgic “We Broke the Jinx. We Won the World Cup” for Jim Jam Pops also reached the Film shortlist but walked away empty-handed.

Still, India’s medal chest sparkled: 1 Grand Prix, 9 Golds, 9 Silvers, and 13 Bronzes. That’s a barnstorming 32 Lions. FCB India led the pride, while Ogilvy, Leo India, Havas Creative India, Talented and others made strong showings in categories ranging from Brand Experience & Activation to Creative Commerce.

What clicked? A sharp mix of culture and conscience. From turning train tickets into lottery dreams, to custom-tailored heart health awareness, to menus that doubled as eye tests—Indian creativity pulled off the rare trick: selling with soul.

Cannes Lions 2025 proved the Indian ad world is no longer an emerging force—it’s arrived, swagger and all.

In the specialist categories, Leo India showed its strategic genius, being crowned the brand activation & promotions specialist agency of the year with 30 points and also dominating as the health specialist agency of the year, amassing 40 points. Talk about being a well-oiled machine!

FCB India wasn’t to be outdone, nabbing the branded content & entertainment specialist agency of the year with 30 points. It seems their content is so good, it’s almost too branded. And when it came to the visual feast, Good Morning Films was hailed as the video craft specialist of the year, scoring a dazzling 84 points. Their work, one might say, was simply picture-perfect.

Individual campaigns that got chatter going  included Famous Innovations’ The Anatomy of Suffering for Henlo Pet Nutrition, which snared a Grand Prix in Still Print – Still Craft – Art Direction. Pet lovers, prepare to be paws-itively moved. In the Audio-Visual category, Enormous bagged two golds for Wok Tok By Veeba’s “Chinese, par apne style se” and Lahori Jeera’s “Har Koi Peera Lahori Zeera“—proving that when it comes to food, Enormous really knows how to cook up a storm.

Meanwhile, Neeman’s Are Those Neeman’s Shoes Phone Hack campaign by VML India caused quite the stir, landing a Grand Prix for Audio – Voice-Activation. One might even say it spoke volumes! Famous Innovations also scooped up a Grand Prix for The Anatomy of Suffering for Henlo Pet Nutrition in Out of Home (Ambient Media), showing that their suffering has truly paid off.

From Durex India’s Teaching India to get it wrong by FCB India to MyMuse’s Designed to Find the Right Spot by Famous Innovations, the awards celebrated campaigns that were both bold and brilliant, leaving no creative stone unturned.

The Abbys once again showcased that in the mad world of advertising, a bit of cheeky creativity and strategic nous are always a winning combination.

Leo India goes direct to the top as Goafest cuts out the middleman

GOA: Day two of Goafest 2025 saw Leo India take the direct route to victory in the direct specialist category, proving that sometimes the shortest distance between two points is a pile of shiny awards.

The agency steamrolled to the ‘direct specialist agency of the year’ title with 40 points, built on three silvers, five bronzes and a merit—a performance so direct it made other agencies wonder if they’d been taking scenic routes all along.

Famous Innovations lived up to its name by famously securing second place with 30 points courtesy of five silver medals, though one suspects they might have preferred trading some of that silver for a bit more gold. FCB India rounded out the podium with 26 points, but not before bagging the coveted Grand Prix for its Lucky Yatra campaign for Central Railways—proving that sometimes the best way to reach your destination is by train.
FCB India’s Grand Prix triumph, accompanied by one gold and one silver, demonstrated that railway campaigns can indeed have locomotives rather than just motives.FCB India

Enormous managed a solid fourth place with 24 points through one silver, three bronzes and three merits—a performance that was moderately enormous rather than properly massive. Meanwhile, Havas Worldwide India  and McCann Worldgroup India found themselves tied at 16 points each, both managing two golds apiece.

The middle order proved that mediocrity comes in many flavours. Grey Group grabbed 12 points with three bronzes, whilst Schbang settled for eight points courtesy of two bronzes. The participation trophy brigade included Mudra Max with four points from two merits, and tgthr. with four points from one bronze.

Those trailing weren’t entirely forgotten. ^a t o m network, BBH Communications India, Digitas, and VML India all managed two points each with a merit apiece.

The Abby Creative Awards 2025, powered by The One Show, continued their systematic conquest of advertising categories, with broadcaster, PR, digital specialist, and design specialist awards ensuring every conceivable niche gets its moment of glory.

The aptly named agency lived up to its billing by hoovering up 64 points through one gold, five silvers, six bronzes and a merit—a haul so comprehensive it left competitors reaching for their calculators and then quietly weeping into their keyboards.

Leo India managed a respectable second place with 26 points courtesy of two silvers, three bronzes and a merit, though one suspects they might have preferred a few more zeros on that scoreboard. Meanwhile, ^a t o m network and Mudra Max found themselves locked in a dead heat at 22 points each—^a t o m network with one silver, three bronzes and two merits, whilst Mudra Max opted for one silver and four bronzes.

The gold rush wasn’t entirely monopolised by the winner. Those trailing weren’t entirely forgotten. Leo India and Mindshare tie for tech supremacy as Goafest gets techie

GOA: Day two of Goafest 2025 delivered a technological thriller as Leo India and Mindshare found themselves locked in a perfect 10-point tie for ‘technology specialist agency of the year’—proof that sometimes even the most sophisticated algorithms can’t pick a winner.

Leo India clinched its share of the crown with one silver and two merits, whilst Mindshare matched the tally with one silver and one bronze. It was the sort of neck-and-neck finish that would make a horse race look pedestrian.
    Leo India
The chasing pack managed  eight points each. ^a t o m network secured third place with one bronze and two merits, whilst Cheil India, Enormous, Havas Life Mumbai, and Madison Media all bagged eight points courtesy of two bronzes each. Good Morning Films managed the same score with a single gold—which suggests that sometimes quality beats quantity, though not by much.

The middle order was positively stuffed with contenders. BBH Communications India private limited, Hyphen Brands, and Tagglabs Experiential each grabbed six points, with BBH and Tagglabs managing a silver apiece whilst Hyphen Brands settled for one bronze and one merit. Tribes Communication also hit six points, though it did it the hard way with three merits—the participation trophy approach to excellence.

The tail-enders weren’t entirely forgotten. FCB India and Interactive Avenues each scraped together four points with two merits apiece, whilst Hogarth Studios managed the same score with a single bronze. Grey Group and VML India brought up the rear with two points each, courtesy of one merit—hardly the stuff of technological revolution, but at least they showed up.

The Abby Creative Awards 2025, powered by The One Show, continued their relentless categorisation of excellence, with broadcaster, PR, digital specialist, design specialist, mobile specialist, and direct specialist awards ensuring that every conceivable advertising niche gets its moment in the sun.

FCB India spins gold in PR specialist agency of the year at Abby Creative Awards by One Show

GOA: Day two of Goafest 2025 witnessed FCB India absolutely demolishing the competition in the public relations category, proving that sometimes the best way to handle PR is to simply be brilliant at it.

The agency swept to victory as ‘public relations specialist agency of the year’ with a frankly ridiculous haul of 66 points, built on four golds, three silvers, three bronzes and two merits. It was the sort of performance that left rivals wondering whether they’d accidentally entered a different competition entirely.

Leo India managed a respectable runner-up spot with 38 points, courtesy of three silvers, four bronzes and two merits—though one suspects they might have preferred trading some of that bronze for a bit more gold. Tribes Communication rounded out the podium with 26 points, bagging one gold, two silvers, one bronze and a merit in what can only be described as a thoroughly balanced performance.

The others  made their presence felt too. Even the laggards got their moment. Grey Alchemy picked up four points with a bronze, whilst boAt Lifestyle and Digitas each secured two points with a merit—hardly earth-shattering, perhaps, but better than going home empty-handed.

The Abby Creative Awards 2025, powered by The One Show, continued their relentless march through specialist categories, with broadcaster, digital specialist, design specialist, mobile specialist, technology specialist, and direct specialist awards all up for grabs.
