Kurkure unveils TVC with Sara Ali Khan for the new Kurkure Chaat Fills

Mumbai: Kurkure, one of India’s most loved snack brands, has launched a rib-tickling new TVC campaign to introduce its new innovative offering, Kurkure Chaat Fills. Titled “Maal Andar Hai”, the TVC takes consumers on a chatpata journey that stars Bollywood celebrity and brand ambassador, Sara Ali Khan. The TVC is Sara’s first television debut as the newest member of the masaledaar Kurkure family.

Inspired by the vibrant and diverse flavours of Indian street food, Kurkure Chaat Fills comes with a centre filling in two flavours, Papdi Chaat Twist and Bhel Chutney Twist. Kurkure Chaat Fills combines the essence of chaat in a convenient, ready-to-eat format, providing consumers with a delicious and multi-textural snacking experience.

The humorous TVC features Sara Ali Khan in an entirely new and unexpected role – as the sinister leader of a gang of misfits. Set inside an abandoned warehouse, we are introduced to one of her informants, Guddu, who claims to possess crucial information about the elusive “maal” hidden inside a cupboard. Initially sceptical of Guddu and his intel, Sara demands that the cupboard be opened. To her surprise, it reveals a packet of Kurkure Chaat Fills. Believing this to be another one of Guddu’s failures, she prepares to pull the trigger. However, her demeanour quickly changes when she takes a bite of Kurkure Chaat Fills and is captivated by its flavourful filling. In this moment, Guddu’s life is spared, and Sara exclaims, “maal to je ke andar hai!”

Sharing her thoughts on the campaign, Sara Ali Khan said, “There’s so much that I love about the brand and its latest offering. Chaat isn’t just close to my heart but has captured the hearts of millions with its regional specialties, unique flavours and diverse ingredients. With Kurkure Chaat Fills, the brand has taken our love for street food and transformed it into an exciting savoury filled salty snack! I hope everyone enjoys the TVC film, and more importantly, the chatpata new Kurkure Chaat Fills!”

Speaking on the campaign, PepsiCo India  Kurkure category lead Aastha Bhasin said, “With Kurkure Chaat Fills, we have brought the authentic essence of Indian street food by infusing our global technology to the local palates. We have carved out a new product format that responds to the growing consumer demand for chaat-flavoured snacks. The combination of its crispy outer layer and burst of chaat flavours inside have inspired our unique “Maal Andar Hai” proposition. Our latest TVC featuring Bollywood ambassador, Sara Ali Khan, stays true to our humorous and chatpata andaz, and captures the essence of our newest offering perfectly. We are confident that our consumers will enjoy the film and our all-new Kurkure Chaat Fills, that is sure to satisfy their chatpata cravings!”

Leo Burnett national creative director Vikram Pandey (Spiky) said, “When we started working on this campaign, we had a breakthrough moment when one of the team members came up with the line ‘Asli Maal Andar Hai’. A perfect way to highlight the distinctive new feature of the latest offering from Kurkure – a flavourful filling inside the Kurkure pellet. And keeping with the light-hearted quirky tonality that is associated with the brand, our film exemplifies this concept literally.”

Kurkure Chaat Fills comes with paste-like fillings inside, which is designed to deliver a satisfying and delightful taste to complement the different chaat flavour profiles, Papdi Chaat Twist and Bhel Chutney Twist. Each bite offers a consistent and enjoyable taste experience, fulfilling the impulsive chatpata cravings of consumers anytime, anywhere. Kurkure Chaat Fills is available at Rs 10 and Rs 20 across all leading retail and e-commerce platforms in India.

With the new launch, Kurkure now offers 14 variants, including Kurkure Sizzlin’ Hot, Kurkure Playz Puffcorn, Kurkure Playz Puff Masala Munch, Kurkure Masala Munch, Kurkure Green Chutney Style, Kurkure Solid Masti etc., providing a wide range of snacking options to the consumers.

  • WOW Skin Science releases series of TVCs that focus on ‘in-moment’

WOW Skin Science releases series of TVCs that focus on ‘in-moment’

Mumbai: WOW Skin Science, India’s leading beauty and wellness brand, has released a series of Television Commercials (TVCs) that focus on “in-moment” humor to bring out the core message – “WOW Activated Naturals | Get used to WOW”.

The campaign celebrates the launch of its new brand platform ‘Activated Naturals’ that aims to harness the power of naturals activated with efficacy of new age actives – elevating the end benefit for the consumer – the WOW effect. Seeking to upgrade consumers from the generic gentle care offered by natural products, Activated Naturals seeks to give women that glow and brightness through introduction of an active ingredient, for eg. Niacinamide and Vitamin C.

Most beauty ads are templated – where the core focus is to highlight the transformative before and after caused by the product. This TVC adopts a unique approach – by combining humor and beauty in unexpected situations. The film is based on a relevant and nuanced insight around moments when a woman does not want to look good. The ‘Get used to WOW’ TVC depicts popular actress-influencer Aisha Ahmed in serious “non beauty” moments – asking for a sick leave at work or at a pet funeral – emitting a radiant glow, courtesy of WOW’s Vitamin C + Niacinamide Activated Naturals facewash. Ahmed, who stars in the commercial, is known for her critical roles in TV shows such as Adulting, Lock’d IN and Minus One: New Chapter. The Mumbai-based actress is the face of the commercial and started acting at the age of 20 and is known for her charisma and on-screen presence.

Leo Burnett conceptualised and produced this campaign and speaking about it, Leo Burnett executive creative director Shahnawaz Qadeer had to say, “It was fun and refreshing to take a new look at beauty commercials. While most beauty ads still prioritize showing the positive outcomes of their product in a quintessential way, we took a counter-intuitive approach and highlighted the challenges of looking too good in certain situations. By latching onto the trend of ‘Pretty People Problems’, our campaign aims to set itself apart by adding some much-needed humor in the world of beauty commercials. We hope that the audience will resonate with the message – you can find your glow in the most unlikely circumstances.”

Since time immemorial, women have strived for a glowing and radiant skin. Through the unique advert, WOW characterizes Vitamin C and Niacinamide into humourous questioning on the lines of ‘Kuch nahi hai toh problem, sab kuch hai toh bhi issue hai?’

Wow Skin Science CMO Vanda Ferrao spoke about this unique campaign, “Through the ‘Activated Naturals’ platform, WOW Skin Science aims to inspire a redefinition of beauty norms. By showcasing radiance in unexpected scenarios and through the lens of humour, the campaign highlights the brand’s commitment to innovative and efficacious skincare solutions. It’s time to move beyond mere natural ingredients – the era of Activated Naturals is here!”

  • 15 creative agencies bag top honour across 19 categories

15 creative agencies bag top honour across 19 categories

Mumbai: The India Chapter of International Advertising Association (IAA) presented the eighth edition of its prestigious IndAA Awards on 1 September at a ceremony hosted at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai.

ABP Network and Sony Pictures Network were the co-partner while Network18 and Jio Cinema were the associate partners for the event.

The awards to honour real advertising that creatively cut through to the market before it could impress the all-client jury saw work by 15 creative agencies take the top honours across 18 product and service categories and one special category.

The awards saw 102 campaigns being shortlisted of which, by design, only one in each category was awarded. In case of close contests the jury awarded joint winners after much deliberation.

Among creative agencies, Leo Burnett, MullenLowe Lintas Group and Ogilvy won three IndIAA Awards each, representing the very best work in that category. BBDO, DDB Mudra and TBWA won two awards each.

Other creative agencies and creators to win an IndIAA Award were Grey Group, Kehat Kabira Pictures, McCann Worldgroup, Publicis Worldwide, Rediffusion, SG Media, Talented, The Script Room, The Womb and Tilt Brand Solutions.

Two HUL brands were among winners, in the Food & Beverage and Personal Care categories. HDFC Life won in Insurance while HDFC Mutual Fund won in Banking & Finance.

Jury chairman and Nestle India chairman & MD Suresh Narayanan said “In my fifth year as the jury chair, I feel intimately acquainted with this room and honoured to be among some of the greatest creative minds in the country- – advertising gurus, communication experts, and marketing wizards.

Narayana presented a short poem titled ‘Jury Chair ka Sambodhan,’ “a reflection of his five years in this esteemed role.” He then went on to recite a few lines of the same in Hindi which received a hearty applause from the audience.

IAA president Avinash Pandey sheds light on how the IndIAA Awards exemplify creative excellence and have set the gold standard for creative awards in India. He stated, “It’s been an intriguing year for arguably the most active industry association of its kind. We’ve demonstrated that our industry can be a catalyst for change, particularly in breaking gender bias. We celebrate the winners reflecting the growing synergy between associations and showcasing the remarkable impact of the communication industry. The positive feedback from young leaders has been heartening, and our industry’s enthusiasm for AdAsia remains strong. We’re organising a delegation led by Sam Balsara for AdAsia 23 in Seoul, the largest event of its kind in Asia.”

IAA IndIAA Awards chairman, Abhishek Karnani said, “IAA Awards are unique because you can’t “enter” them.” A group of seasoned journalists shortlisted 102 campaigns across 19 categories from over a thousand ads. This accomplishes two important goals- first, it ensures that only genuine work is presented to the jury, keeping scam ads at bay, second, it truly democratises the creative process by not charging an entry fee, making fundraising for this grand event a challenging task.”

He further said, what sets the IAA awards apart is that they are judged by senior marketers who own and invest in the brands. We showcase the transformative power of communication for our beloved country and society, embodying IAA’s unwavering belief in the ability of communication to drive change.

IAA honoured Ayushmann Khurrana as the “Most Disruptive Brand in Entertainment Industry”. On questioning his criteria while choosing a Brand, he replied, “I believe before taking on a brand it resonates with the credibility of my films. Credibility is everything. I think only going with commercials will be very myopic. My father once told me, ‘Goddess Saraswati comes before Goddess Lakshmi. I always go like that. If you earn respect, nothing like that.”

Speaking about being an outsider in Bollywood, he said that the first choice had to be truly different and clatter-breaking. “I’ll never get a second chance being an outsider. So it’s all about the choices you make eventually. Everybody is hard-working and talented. It’s the kind of opportunities you get and firmly success is nothing but when preparation meets opportunity,” he avers.

The Asian Federation of Advertising Associations (AFAA) felicitated the all-India winners of its maiden Changemakers For Good Awards at the IndIAA Awards 2023. These meaningful awards are to salute those individuals and companies in the communication space who have used their talent to make the world a better place.

The winners for the four categories were:

In her advertising career, Gurnani has created culture-defining work for brands like Stayfree, Yatra.com, Heineken, Kingfisher Ultra, Amstel, and Zee5. Most recently, she conceptualised and wrote the lyrics to a rap song for Zing’s “Apni Vibe Apni Tribe” campaign. In 2009, she was amongst the winners of the Cannes Young Lions.

So, without further ado, here it goes…

    ·         Your mantra for life

To have fun while pursuing my dreams. Because if you aren’t enjoying what you are doing, you are just wasting your precious time.

    ·         A book you are currently reading / plan to read

I love to read new perspectives on humankind and human psychology. Currently reading “Homo Deus” by Yuval Noah Harari.

    ·         Your fitness mantra, especially during the pandemic

Strong believer of “Yoga se hi hoga.” Post-covid I had a really tough time coming to a complete recovery. Yoga is what healed me and kept me going through the difficult health issues.

    ·         Your comfort food

    Anything that my mum cooks.

    ·         When the chips are down a quote/philosophy that keeps you going

In an actors’ round table, Tom Hanks mentioned how he always reminds himself, “This too shall pass.” This phrase, he said, is particularly important when you are at the peak of success, as it helps keep you grounded. I keep these words close by in good times and bad.

    ·         Your guilty pleasure

Watching mindless reality TV, especially “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

    ·         When was the last time you tried something new?

Last week. I love experimenting with food. Bought these Chinese glass noodles to try.

    ·         A life lesson you learnt the hard way

I am not that important in the bigger scheme of things, and the world doesn’t revolve around me.

    ·         What gets you excited about life?

Travelling to different countries and experiencing new cultures and cuisines really fills my happiness cup.

    ·         What’s on top of your bucket list?

Travel to New York and watch Broadway.

    ·         If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Why so serious? Live a little.

    ·         One thing you would most like to change about the world

I propose “Free movement for all.” I want a world without borders, or passports, to be precise. A world where there are no immigrants and refugees, just people migrating at will like birds.

     ·         An activity that keeps you motivated / charged during tough times

Painting has seen me through my highs and lows. I am no M. F. Hussain, but expressing my artistic self without judgement and freely is very liberating.

     ·         What lifts your spirits when life gets you down?

It changes from time to time. Sometimes it’s cooking, sometimes taking a dance class, at times listening to Badshah’s songs, and sometimes just chit-chatting with a friend about a show we both watch.

    ·         Your go-to stress buster

I can always bank on a good workout to bust that stress.

  • Colors celebrates Diwali with brand film – ‘Zindagi Ke Rang, Apno Ke Sang’

Colors celebrates Diwali with brand film – ‘Zindagi Ke Rang, Apno Ke Sang’

Mumbai: As we prepare to celebrate Diwali for the first time since the pandemic, the countdown has started. However, due to people’s busy lives, celebrations have since been reduced to calls, forwards, GIFs, and posts. Families are splintering, and the fundamental principles of Indian households appear to have been forgotten in the age of technology.

In order to rekindle the feeling of community, Colors has created a brand film called “Zindagi Ke Rang, Apno Ke Sang” that emphasises the importance of community. The country’s top GEC develops a brand campaign to emphasise that celebrating Diwali is incomplete without spending time with your loved ones. In a cultural fabric that is constantly changing, it is our traditions, festivals, and families that keep us grounded.

The brand film, created by Leo Burnett, depicts members of a joint family bringing in the celebrations in separate houses and sharing them on a group chat window. As the conversation progresses, a stream of selfies, pictures, emojis, and Diwali greetings appears on the chat thread, demonstrating how accustomed we are to minimising our happiness for the sake of convenience.

In the movie, a family is shown celebrating Diwali digitally, but the youngest member is disappointed because the holiday is meant to be shared in person, not over the phone. Based on the idea of sharing our joys, the movie suggests that it’s time we quit wishing people well via chat and instead celebrate to our hearts’ content with get-togethers.

Viacom18 Hindi Mass Entertainment marketing and digital head Sapangeet Rajwant said, “We, at Colors, believe in bringing families together and in all our endeavours we strongly support our country’s cultural ethos. We’re a nation that loves to celebrate the smallest joys and the biggest festivals together with our near and dear ones. Carrying this tradition forward, our latest brand film urges viewers to break the norm of celebrating festivals over the phone. It is a heartfelt reminder to everyone to enjoy this Diwali by getting together with family and friends.”
