    Mumbai: The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is all set to open in Las Vegas on 5 January with ATSC again taking exhibit space to showcase the expansion of next-generation TV by broadcasters and the growing list of consumer technology companies who are supporting the effort with integrated ATSC 3.0 receivers.
     
    With the recent expansion of Nextgen TV service in Los Angeles, CA and Washington DC, the next-generation broadcasting now reaches nearly half of all American viewers, it said on Monday. Stations in 46 US markets now offer Nextgen TV powered by ATSC 3.0, and market-by-market service launches are expected to continue throughout 2022.

    “With South Korea in its sixth year of ATSC 3.0 services, Jamaica launching commercial services in 2022 and other countries also considering the ATSC 3.0 broadcasting standard, next year is promising to carry forward the tremendous momentum of 2021,” said ATSC President Madeleine Noland.  “We’re excited to carry that message to CES in Las Vegas, as the consumer technology industry gathers to mark new innovations for the coming year.”

    Over 2200 exhibitors are confirmed to exhibit in person at CES 2022, which is set to begin on 5 January. According to organisers, in the last two weeks, 143 additional companies have signed up to exhibit in person. The event will also close one day early on January 7 in view of the current health protocols.

    NEW DELHI: The much awaited boxing match between the two biggest stars from the world of boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, in Las Vegas can be seen in India on the country’s only dedicated sports OTT service VEQTA.

    The OTT has bagged the broadcasting rights for the fight on 27 August at 9:00am (IST). VEQTA is the official broadcaster of the fight in India and will live stream the fight only on its digital platforms VEQTA.in and its Android and IOS Apps. This will be the first global mega sports event to be shown on OTT format in India.

    VEQTA in an official statement said today: “India currently has around 220 to 250 million smartphones and is expected to touch more than 500 million by 2020 reported by an industry analyst. So with rising smartphone sales, falling data tariffs, 4G rollout and improvement in payment gateways, OTT market, an important growth driver in India’s digital space, is growing at a dynamic pace of 35-40 % Y-O-Y”.

  • Zingaat is the Las Vegas of Marathi entertainment, says Vikas Varma

    After creating 9XM,  Hummra M, Music F Fatafati, Bflix Movies,  Dicky “Speak” Pvt Ltd CEO Vikas Varma has launched his own Marathi music TV channel Zingaat. Apart from Varma,  Ramesh Jassani, Shirish Ruparel and  Narayan Sharma own shares in the company.  “All four of us bring tremendous television, advertising and media experience to the table making this a formidable combination of content, distribution, advertising, sales and marketing. The four musketeers, together, are the life force of Zingaat,” said Verma.

    In conversation with Indiantelevision.com’s Parvinder Sandhu, Vikas Varma shares his plans and insights into his channel. Excerpts:

    Where did you see space for a new Marathi music channel? Weren’t there a plenty already?

    A space or a vacuum need not exist for a product that is giving the viewers an entirely refreshing and new entertainment experience. Zingaat, as the name proclaims, is such a viewing experience, totally in tune with today’s Marathi viewer. Marathi movies and music, unjustly so, have for too long lived under the shadow of Bollywood. However, that has changed dramatically in the last few years. Marathi movies and music claimed and achieved its rightful top position and it was important to create a TV channel that reflects and celebrates just that. Thus, Zingaat.

    Zingaat looks a little like what 9XM Hindi Music channel used to look when it was #1. Your comments on that.

    9XM was created by me in 2007, which immediately became #1 in its second week of launch. But, that was in 2007, which I refer to as ‘Version-1’. After this, I created the Bhojpuri Music Channel, Hummra-M, which too became #1 and then Music-F Fatafati, the Bangla Music Channel, with similar results. Those were ‘Version-2 & 3’.

    Zingaat is a fantastically upgraded and entertaining music channel, where I have used the accumulated experience of last 10 years, since I created 9XM, Hummra-M and Music-F Fatafati. Zingaat is as different from 9XM as iPhone-1 is different from iPhone-7. That, Zingaat is the only TV channel celebrating the new face, success and pride of Maharashtra, makes it even more exciting and fulfilling for me.

    Shall we say Zingaat could have been inspired by ideas such as Sony Rox’ that primarily focuses on huge mainly-Hindi music popular in the sub-continent and among the diaspora across the globe?

    The only inspiration that Zingaat had and continues to seek, is the joy and celebration of music. It is the Zingaat way of life. Our viewers experience this and participate in this joyfulness, eagerly and happily.

    What has been your research in this context? What is your target group?

    Youthfulness, music and joy has the infinite power to attract humans of all ages and demographics. Zingaat is this sparkling, joyful TV Channel that personifies these qualities. These qualities are highlighted by our Channel Super Heroes called, Ussal, Missal and Maddy. They sing, dance, play pranks, recite poems and represent the free spirit of Zingaat and all our viewers. One does not need research to tell us that almost everyone loves candy. However, under the hood of our brand Zingaat, lies the result of some serious content selection, which has been mood-mapped to perfection.

    Our Super Heroes, Ussal, Missal and Maddy have been inspired by the colours of the rainbow and sound of falling rain, however the technology used to create them are cutting edge 3-D animation tools.

    Which genres of music do you plan to have? Have any reality shows been planned too?

    Zingaat is the Las Vegas of Marathi entertainment. Only the best acts come here. So, the display window showcases only Hit-Pe-Super-hit. Expect only the best of best on Zingaat. Yes, a few shows are in the pipeline, and we are very excited to be showcasing these products for the first time and in this manner to our viewers.

    What are the marketing plans for Zingaat?

    We have an extensive marketing plan in progress right now. This includes over 500 billboards all over Maharashtra as well as radio and TV spots. Our focus is also the interiors of Maharashtra where we will be taking road-shows and high-energy ground activation. That apart, we are organising contests for our viewers, with high-value premium gifts. And, not to forget movie halls and cinemas, where Zingaat will spread its joy and fun.

    How are the viewers responding to Zingaat. How is the feedback?

    The response has been phenomenal and in my experience, and unprecedented. Zingaat has a “Selfie’ showcase for our viewers on its TV screen which runs constantly 24X7. We have been getting thousands of beautiful selfies from our viewers non-stop. We are delighted to show-off our viewers happy faces on our channel. This is the age of the smart phone and Zingaat complements that as a ‘smart channel’.

    Excited viewers result in super excited advertisers who have been meeting us and want to be a part of our mission to heighten viewer experience. So, a lot of Zingaat razzle-dazzle is spreading its magic all around. All I can say is, the party has just begun, wear your fanciest clothes and jump in!

In the segment, Kimmel introduces Aunt Chippy who is playing blackjack at a casino in LA to try and win money for the show’s studio audience, but to Kimmel’s surprise Aunty Chippy wasn’t alone. Matt Damon was sitting right next to her dressed in a pair of sunglasses and a fine mullet wig!

    Spotting Matt at the table, Kimmel quipped, “Hold on — there’s not supposed to be anyone else at the table,” and Aunt Chippy replied, “If I knew he was going to be here, I would’ve shaved my legs, Jimmy.”

    When asked about his sudden appearance, the actor said, “I’m just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit. I took a midnight train going anywhere.” “Thought maybe I’d play some cards with Aunt Chippy,” said Damon, who explained he was in Vegas for the premiere of “Jason Bourne”.“I don’t know — is that a crime?”

    Aunt Chippy who has a fantastic track record of winning at the game was actually at the losing end in spite of Matt’s generous offer to keep the game going. Damon was feeling generous, he said, “Hang on. Wait a minute. Jimmy, I was thinking, you know. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen $10,000, but I personally like your studio audience a lot, and I feel like some of them like me. I think we’ve gotta do this again.”

    But of course, that did not help.

    The duo have been close friends for years now, and keep pulling pranks on each other much to the amusement of fans. Throughout the episode they kept calling each other out and the actor even said he’d love to do the segment again.

    MUMBAI: Vh1 is all set to bring its viewers the Billboard Music Awards 2016 on 23 May at 6:30 am with a repeat at 9 pm. The channel will air the function straight from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

    The 2016 Billboard Awards will see the always eccentric actor and singer Ludacris along with the gorgeous supermodel and singer Ciara as hosts of the show. Top nominees for the show include The Weeknd with a whopping 19 nominations across 16 categories, followed by Justin Bieber with 12 nominations across 11 categories. Drake and Fetty Wap are both nominated 11 times, in 10 categories. Singing sensations Taylor Swift and Adele are competing with each other with 8 nominations each.

    The Joe Jonas-led band, Mendes is set to join performers P!nk and The Go-Go’s, together to celebrate the35th anniversary of “We Got the Beat” – A Go-Go’s classic hit.

    One of the highlights of the event is P!nk gearing up to make the World Television Debut of Just Like Fire, her new single from Alice Through the Looking Glass.  Alongside the glamorous and popular faces, a number of fresh talents such as DNCE and Shawn Mendes will also be seen performing at the glorious award ceremony.

    The Annual Billboard Music Awards is a part of an extravagant award show line-up aired on Vh1 which includes Golden Globe Awards, The American Music Awards, The Annual Grammy Awards, Video Music Awards and Europe Music Awards.
