By securing participation for the franchisees in the Abu Dhabi T10 League (New York Strikers) Lanka Premier League (Colombo Strikers) and Legends Cricket Trophy (Colombo Strikers) Strikers’ franchise owner Sagar Khanna and renowned communications specialist Shazmeen Kara have expanded the teams’ global reach.

    Sagar Khanna is a key figure in the development of the strikers’ brand which is now well-known to cricket fans all over the world. Shazmeen Kara’s teamwork and the backing of Sagar Khanna’s management have brought attention to well-known cricket players who have played in different leagues and made a significant impact for the franchise such as the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Amir, Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard

    Shazmeen has also been a trailblazer in building the strongest fan and media connect while catering to the interest of the players and the general public possessing every opportunity, since the New York Strikers lifted its first-ever trophy by winning the 2023 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 league.

    Under her stewardship, the Colombo Strikers and the New York Strikers have become more than just cricket teams; they have evolved into lifestyle icons, capturing the imagination of fans worldwide. Shazmeen’s innovative approach to branding and marketing has redefined the fan experience, drawing in audiences beyond traditional cricketing demographics.

    Talking on the privilege of managing public attention for the Strikers squad, Shazmeen shared, “Leading the Colombo Strikers and the New York Strikers has been about more than just cricket.     Talking more about expanding the demographics for the Strikers Franchise, Shazmeen shared, “The Strikers Franchise is known for having a strong roster for its icon reconnect. When players such as Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard and Babar Azam take the field, the onus increases significantly in terms of younger fans understanding the role models who have shaped cricket over the years.”

    Shazmeen’s ascent from a Mumbai-bred communications expert to a progressive figure in sports management speaks volumes about her adaptability and visionary leadership. Shazmeen Kara is also known to have been the founder and overall brand head of YWC Fashion.

    This project which embodied the spirit of cricketing great Yuvraj Singh was India’s first-ever homegrown athleisure lifestyle sport brand. Shazmeen led the creative digital and social media marketing campaigns capitalizing on Yuvi’s broad appeal.

    Wanindu Hasaranga to lead homegrown stars in LPL’s fifth edition

    Mumbai: The fifth edition of the much-awaited Lanka Premier League (LPL) will begin on 1 July with a host of international and Sri Lankan stars in action across three weeks of pulsating T20 action at three iconic venues.

    Some of the marquee international names from the five LPL franchises include Kiwi all-rounders Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman, Bangladesh pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, Pakistan stars Shadab Khan and Agha Salman, West Indies veterans Andre Fletcher and Fabian Allen as well as the famed Afghanistan spinners Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Noor Ahmad, and the South African duo of Rilee Rossouw and Reeza Hendricks.

    The Sri Lankan presence in LPL 2024 is equally star-studded, with the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, Isuru Udana, Maheesh Theekshana and Kusal Mendis among a host of other national team heavyweights.

    “The Lanka Premier League continues to highlight the exceptional talent of our cricket players, providing fans with yet another opportunity to see their favorite stars in action. As we embark on this significant fifth season, I extend my best wishes to all the participants, stakeholders, and our cherished fans,” said Lanka Premier League tournament director Samantha Dodewala.

    The league stage will run from 1 to 16 July, with the five teams – Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings and Kandy — taking on each other twice during this period at the three iconic venues – the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla and the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele, Kandy.

    IPG Group founder and CEO Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, the official rights holder of LPL 2024, stated, “The past four years have seen the Lanka Premier League garner an overwhelming response from the global cricket community, with fans eagerly watching some of the sport’s biggest stars. As we enter our fifth season, I am confident that the LPL will not only continue to thrive but also provide an unparalleled platform for homegrown talent to rise and shine.”

    The playoffs, to be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, will begin on 18 July, with the final scheduled on 21 July.

    Sony Sports to telecast Lanka Premier League starting Dec 5

    Mumbai: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has returned as a broadcast partner for the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL). The broadcast network has signed an agreement with the official franchise and broadcast holder of LPL – the IPG Group. 

    The agreement between Sony Pictures Networks India and the IPG Group includes the television and digital transmission of the LPL, which is set to be played between 5 December and 23 December.

    All Lanka Premier League matches will be telecasted live between Sony Six and Sony Ten channels and livestreamed on its on-demand OTT platform, SonyLIV.

    ‘The appetite for cricket in India is huge and our aim is to bring the best of international cricketing action to our fans in India. With the onboarding of the Lanka Premier League, we want to provide our viewers with some high-energy T20 cricket throughout December,” said SPNI chief revenue officer of distribution and head of sports business Rajesh Kaul.

    The LPL will witness a host of cricketing stars such as West Indies legend Chris Gayle, former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, and former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis in action. The competition will also see Sri Lanka T20 stars such as Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga showing their mettle. Asalanka scored 231 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, while Hasaranga picked up 16 wickets in the tournament.
