    Vh1 to live telecast Grammy Awards 2016

    MUMBAI: Vh1 will live telecast the 58th Annual Grammy Awards in India from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California on 16 February at 7.30 am.

    The channel will air a repeat at 9 pm on the same evening.

    The 58th edition of the Grammys will witness rapper LL Cool J host the evening for the fifth consecutive time. This year’s awards will be graced with performances by artistes such as 11 time Grammy nominee Kendrick Lamar, seven time nominee The Weekend and 10 time Grammy award winner Adele, to name a few.

    “After an overwhelming response to the airing of Golden Globe Awards, we take pride in carrying forward the awards fever ever further with simulcast of the Grammys on Vh1. Keeping the promise of showcasing only the best of English entertainment, we are excited to showcase the grand edition of the biggest music night in the world for our viewers once again,” said Viacom18 EVP and head of English and youth entertainment Ferzad Palia.

    This year, Lifetime Achievement Award recipient David Bowie will be honoured with a tribute by six-time Grammy winner and current nominee Lady Gaga. The tribute will mark Lady Gaga’s fourth appearance on the Grammy Awards telecast. She has been nominated for the category Best Song Written for Visual Media for Till It happens to You with Diane Warren.

    This year, Kendrick Lamar leads nominations with 11, followed by Taylor Swift and The Weekend. Additionally, music producer Max Martin received six nominations and engineer Tom Coyne, rapper Drake, and engineers Serban Ghenea and John Hanes each earned five nominations.

    The channel has leveraged the Grammys through various associations and tie-ups. Vh1 has associated with 15 hangouts across 10 cities in India, including Hard Rock Café to screen the awards in 15 outlets across eight cities. Jean Claude Biguine has been roped in to create the Grammy red carpet look. Vh1 will also be conducting college activation where a Grammy branded car will be travel to college campuses across Mumbai, Delhi and Pune.

Jon Hamm popularized the character of Don Draper in the series which captures the world of advertising in the 1960s like never before. Despite his outward disenchantment and egotism, the character of Don Draper demonstrates a strict code of personal ethics, insisting on honesty and chivalry in his subordinates, but not always in himself. Mad Men returns to television with FX and FX HD from 29 January 2016 and will continue to air from Monday to Friday at 11 pm.

     

     Maura Tierney from The Affair won the award for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, limited series or motion picture made for television. As a jilted wife slowly coming to terms with a life she never had planned for herself, Maura Tierney found a perfect balance of comedy and tragedy in her character Helen’s situation The Affair Season 2 is coming soon on FX and FX HD as part of special programming for Valentine’s Day on 14th Feb

     

    The singer-actress Lady Gaga won Best Actress in a miniseries or motion picture for television for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel. Gaga plays Countess Elizabeth who is the owner of Hotel Cortez, a ritzy hotel set in modern day Los Angeles, California. Elizabeth is an uber glamorous socialite who secretly maintains her stunningly fierce good looks by using her special clawed gloves to murder people and drink their blood. American Horror Story – Hotel airs on FX and FC HD on every Saturday at 11 pm.

     

    The Crazy-ex girlfriend star Rachel Bloom grabbed the Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a television series—musical or comedy. Bloom plays a successful Manhattan lawyer Rebecca Bunch who follows her high-school ex, Josh Chan, to the humdrum suburbs of California. The occasional musical numbers in the series act as comedic interjections, but they also telegraph the show’s darker themes, reminding us that our protagonist is slowly unravelling. Crazy ex-girlfriend airs on Star World Premiere HD every Thursday at 10 pm.

    Star English cluster bags 58 nominations across categories at the People’s Choice Awards

    MUMBAI: With more than 72 million votes cast across music, movies, TV, and digital, the run-up to the People’s Choice Awards 2016 is already shaping up to be incredibly contentious. The shows on Star World, Star World Premiere HD and FX have received a whopping 58 nominations across categories including favourite TV show.

     

    The bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has been nominated for the favorite actress in a new TV series for Quantico which has also been nominated for the favourite new TV drama. Viola Davis made it to the list as well by bagging a nomination for favourite dramatic TV actress for How to Get Away with Murder alongside Taraji P Henson for her role in Empire. Reigning winners of the favourite TV crime drama actor and actress respectively Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic are competing in the same category again for their performances in the hit TV crime drama, Castle.

     

    Speaking on sweeping the nominations at the People’s Choice Awards, a Star spokesperson said, “The content on our channels are customized for global Indian audiences who are quite aware about shows launching and being telecast across the world. The channel has the freshest and biggest shows concurrent with the USA. We have the biggest shows from the biggest studios and this is what sets us apart. We are very excited to be nominated in various categories and hope to bag many of them.”

    For favourite network TV comedy, the shows nominated are 2 Broke Girls, Modern Family and New Girl. The nomination for favourite comedic TV actress includes Sofía Vergara and Zooey Deschanel. For favourite network TV drama the shows nominated are Empire and How To Get Away With Murder. Favourite dramatic TV actress includes Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis. The nomination for favourite TV crime drama includes Bones, Castle, Criminal Minds and Person of Interest. For favourite TV crime drama actor they have Jim Caviezel, Nathan Fillion and Shemar Moore. For favourite sci-fi/fantasy TV actress the nominations are Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison and Lady Gaga. The nominations for favourite new TV comedy are Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Grandfathered, The Grinder, Life in Pieces, The Muppets and Scream Queens while for favourite new TV drama the nominations are Blood & Oil, Minority Report, Quantico and Rosewood.

    Barco & Fox ink deal to release films in panoramic movie format

    MUMBAI: Digital cinema company Barco and 20th Century Fox have inked a five year, multi-title per year agreement to release movies in Barco’s multi-screen, fully immersive movie format Barco Escape.

     

    Fox will be working with its filmmakers to produce new projects for the format beginning with the September release of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

     

    As part of the deal, a Barco Escape setup will be installed in a theater on the 20th Century Fox studio lot. 

     

    Fox was an early endorser of the Barco Escape technology, working hand in hand with Barco throughout the last year to further develop the format and showcase new theatrical content to audiences. Director Wes Ball’s The Maze Runner was the first film to release in Barco Escape, featuring approximately 10 minutes of footage in the format. It debuted at five Barco Escape Cinemark theaters in the US and two Barco Escape Kinepolis theaters in Belgium. For The Scorch Trials,Barco is targeting 25 locations, and Fox is targeting approximately 20 minutes of the film to be converted into the format.

     

    “The audience reaction from the Barco Escape footage on The Maze Runner was overwhelmingly positive. We started working with Barco on this technology because we believe immersive experiences are the future of cinema. Now that Barco has upgraded its Barco Escape systems to be fully DCI compliant, we are further interested in finding tent pole movies for the format that will inspire audiences to leave their homes and go to the theater to share in this unique experience,” says 20th Century Fox president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson.

     

    “Twentieth Century Fox has been an incredible partner for Barco Escape from the very beginning. The common theme from audiences that saw The Maze Runner with select scenes in Barco Escape was ‘we want more!’ We are thrilled to extend our relationship with the studio and its filmmakers to continue pushing the envelope and creating these new cinema experiences you can’t get anywhere else,” added Barco VP of global entertainment Todd Hoddick.

     

    Barco Escape’s next project, a special performance event with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga filmed natively for the format, will be released later this year.

    MUMBAI: Six-time Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Lady Gaga will make a special tribute performance at the 87th Oscars.

     

    “Lady Gaga is a once in a lifetime artist who’s musical evolution keeps growing. We are proud to have her perform on the Oscars for the very first time,” said show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

     

    Since breaking in 2008, Lady Gaga has sold over 27 million albums, 130 million singles, and over 4 million tickets globally to her award-winning live performances. Lady Gaga has won a total of six Grammy Awards – her most recent this week for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Cheek To Cheek, her 2014 collaboration with Tony Bennett, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

     

    The 87th Oscars will be held on 22 February, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. It will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

    Apple to acquire Beats Music to strengthen mobile segment

    NEW DELHI: iPhone maker Apple today announced a $3 billion deal to acquire subscription streaming music service Beats Music and Beats Electronics.

     

    Apple will expand Beats Music subscription service and Beats headphones, speakers and audio software to more markets through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and select Apple authorised resellers.

     

    Currently, Beats is more popular in the United States. Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dre will join Apple, as part of the acquisition.

     

    “Music is such an important part of all of our lives and holds a special place within our hearts at Apple,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “That’s why we have kept investing in music and are bringing together these extraordinary teams so we can continue to create the most innovative music products and services in the world,” he added.

     

     The acquisition of Beats will assist the device vendor to spruce up its music offerings, from free streaming with iTunes Radio to subscription service in Beats.

     

     In five years since launch, the Beats “b” has become the brand of choice in the music and sports worlds, and is the market leader in the premium headphone market, said Apple in a statement.

     

    Music superstars including Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have designed their own customised Beats headphones and speakers.

     

    Fashion designers and street artists such as Alexander Wang, Futura and Snarkitecture collaborated on special limited products, while athletes including LeBron James, Serena Williams and Neymar use Beats as a critical part of their training and game day process.

    MUMBAI: The Fugly boy Arfi Lamba is on cloud nine these days, reason being he has been offered an international film with Akon and Lady Gaga. The name of the film is The Key Project and it is directed by Will’o (Pantheras Films). 

     

    Will ‘O, has directed many television productions and commercials. He has been in the business for over 14 years and has seen and experienced all aspects of film production. His last project was the feature film The Million Dollar Date starring Tom Sizemore.

     

    Lamba will be the only Indian in the film. Clarifies Arfi, “Yes, I have been offered the key project though right now it’s too early to reveal any further details. I am really excited about the project.” 

     

    “I am really excited to work with Akon and Lady Gaga. Lady gaga is doing a small but very important role in the film,” he adds.

     

    The Key Project is a film about real experiences that successful people have gone through to get to where they are today. Will ‘O states, “Success means a lot of different things, from health, finances, and many others… we want to capture the different stories from celebrities to teachers, to show the power of never giving up.”

    MUMBAI: The queen of pop, Madonna is still ruling the music world. She is leading the Forbes’ 2013 Highest-Paid Musicians list. According to the Forbes Magazine, the 55-year-old diva earned $125 million from June 2012 to May 2013, thanks to her highly-successful MDMA Tour. The ‘4 Minutes’ hitmaker has beaten chart-topping artists like Rihanna and fellow icons like Paul McCartney and is the highest paid musician of 2013.

     

    The MDMA tour grossed $305 million. According to report published in the magazine, it took into account concert ticket sales, royalties for recorded music and publishing, merchandise sales, endorsement deals, and other business ventures. In addition to her tour, Madonna’s other endeavors include merchandising from her concert, her clothing line and her perfume, all of which helped the songstress dominate the list of top earners.

     

    Next to her in the list is Lady Gaga with an annual income of $80 million, followed by Jersey rocks and 80s icons Bon Jovi, who nabbed $79 million for the year.
