    MUMBAI: Sunny Deol’s action film, Singh Saab The Great is old wine in a plastic bottle. With so much use of Punjabi language, it could well have been a Punjabi film due to which it loses out on patronage in South and East India while limiting it in other parts. The film’s appeal is only limited to single screens. The movie collected Rs 14.2 crore for its opening weekend which is not very encouraging.

     

    Gori Tere Pyar Mein – the second flick featuring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan together – has failed to attract the audience from day one and failing to improve even on Saturday and Sunday. A poorly conceived and executed film, it draws neither youth nor the compulsive moviegoer. The film has managed a poor Rs 7.8 crore for its opening weekend.

     

    Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela crossed one more hurdle in UP as there were objections to the film’s title by certain people following which a court had stopped its screening in the state of UP. There were no shows on Friday and Saturday (22 and 23 November) in UP. The producer gave the film a new title, G-K.R.R, for UP and availed of the Censor Certificate following which the screening resumed from Sunday (24 November) onwards. The film has collected Rs 69.7 crore for its first week.

     

    Rajjo has proved to be a futile exercise with the film barley managing to collect Rs 1.65 crore in its first week.
    Krrish 3 has added Rs 8.5 crore for its third week taking its three week total to Rs 171.8 crore.

    MUMBAI: Establishing herself as a force to reckon with, Priyanka Chopra couldn’t be more excited as her recent release Krrish 3 makes its way into the 200 crore club, making this her 4th  film to surpass the 100 crore mark.

     

    While Don 2 went on to garner an approximate 107 crores in the domestic market, Agneepath grossed over 133 crores and Barfi had cash registers ringing to the tune of 175 crores worldwide, her recent Krrish 3 has raked in Rs 255 crore worldwide in just 12 days and is still going steady at the ticket windows, reiterating the fact that Priyanka Chopra – the 500 crore heroine now stands one of the most sought after actresses in the industry given her tryst at the box office.

     

    An industry source said, “Apart from working with some of the biggest actors in the industry, Priyanka has also proved herself as a powerhouse of talent. Taking into consideration the business that four of her films have done in the last two years, she is one of the most bankable stars in the industry, not to mention amongst the most successful.”

     

    Talking about her success, Priyanka Chopra said, “It’s a great moment. I feel very proud of being a part of such successful films. Box Office is the King”.
    It’s been a busy week for Priyanka, apart from being flooded with congratulatory calls for Krrish 3, her recent special song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram-Leela, Ram Chahe Leela… has also been well appreciated.

    MUMBAI: Ram Gopal Varma’s attempt at cashing in on the title of his earlier film – Satya – with Satya 2, fails badly. The film is a nonstarter. A poor fare sans face value, the film has been generally ignored by the moviegoer. The film barely managed to cross the one crore mark for its opening weekend.

     

    Krrish 3 makes the most of its one time watch appeal and solo festival week release despite reports not being in its favour. The film’s collections peaked to a high of Rs 31 crore on Monday once the dull period of pre-Diwali and Diwali were over. The film has gone on to collect Rs 120 crore. The open second week is expected to give the film a good follow up looking at the second weekend which has crossed the Rs 30 crore mark.

     

    Micky Virus has added just Rs 50 lakh in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 7.9 crore.
    Boss has collected Rs 40 lakh in its third week to take its three week tally to Rs 52.1 crore.

    MUMBAI: The third instalment to the Hrithik Roshan starrer superhero movie Krrish 3, the much awaited solo Diwali release, took a scary start as the film did not enjoy positive reports and the collections did not meet expectations in its opening weekend as it fell during the dull pre-Diwali period and Diwali day. The film was expected to break the shackles on Monday being the Vikram Samvat (New Year) and a national holiday which the film did. The film took a massive jump in collections on Monday by adding a huge Rs 31 crore thus taking its four day total to Rs 77 crore. The film is reported to be steady today – Tuesday being a holiday in many parts – will benefit the film’s collection.

     

    Micky Virus, which marked the debut of Manish Paul on the big screen, remains below par in its first week with figures of Rs 7.4 crore and little more expected to be added in the coming days.

     

    Boss remains a poor fare as the collections drop to about 10 per cent of its first week figure; the film has collected Rs 4.5 crore in its second week. Thus taking its two week total to Rs 51.7 crore.

     

    Shahid collects Rs 50 lakh in its second week thus taking its two week total to Rs 3.6 crore.

    Mukta Arts launches four theatres this festive season

    MUMBAI: Mukta Cinemas, a division of Mukta Arts Limited, has launched four new theatre properties under its brand name “Mukta A2 Cinemas”.

    These are: Jaihind Mukta A2 Cinemas in Lalbaug Mumbai (2 screens), Mukta A2 Cinema in Banswara, Rajhastan (2 screens), Mukta A2 Cinema in Junnar Maharashtra (single screen) and Mukta A2 Cinema in Sailu Parbhani (single screen).

    All the properties have begun with the superhit film Krrish 3.

    With these additions, total properties under Mukta Cinemas in operation rose to seven with total screens at 17. Apart from the additions mentioned above, work is already underway for 10 more properties that will further take the screen count to nearly 45.

    MUMBAI: Bullett Raja based on an outdated premise which a few decades back would have been classified as B-grade stunt movie, has not gone down well with the audience. While the film fared better with the single screen moviegoers, it was not accepted at the multiplexes. The film has collected Rs 19.7 crore for its opening weekend.

     

    Last week’s release, Singh Saab The Great has been below par; its mostly Punjabi lingo and flavour limited its appeal to a region. The film has collected Rs 20.8 crore in its first week with little to hope for in second week.

     

    Gori Tere Pyar Mein too has proved to be a disaster that it was predicted to be. An outdated story told in a patchy style, the film falls flat with poor response from day one. It was not a film worth making. The collections endorse the view. The film has collected a meagre Rs 12.65 crore in its first week.

     

    And though, it didn’t see a great opening, Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram Leela has had a decent second week, especially in Bombay Circuit. The film has collected Rs 22.1 crore in its second week with half of it coming from Bombay Circuit.

    Krrish 3 comes to the end of its run with the film collecting just Rs 2.5 crore in its fourth week. The film’s four week tally is Rs 174.3 crore.

    MUMBAI: Reliance MediaWorks have done the color grading and digital intermediate for Krrish 3. The most eagerly awaited superhero movie that is expected to sparkle at the box office this Diwali. 

    Krrish 3 is the third in the franchise that began with 2003 hit sci-fi movie Koi…Mil Gaya, Krrish 3 will take forward the story of the superhero Krrish, played by Hrithik Roshan.
    Creative choices of color play was an extremely important role in storytelling, especially for a sci-fi film like Krrish 3 where Hrithik will take on evil mutants and save the world from destruction in his superhero avatar.

    Speaking on the same Reliance MediaWorks CEO Venkatesh Roddam said: “Krissh 3 was not an easy film as it came with a huge legacy. In Krrish 3 it was important to create a consistent look and feel to the story overall. Krrish 3 provided a great opportunity for us to showcase the diverse skills within the businesses and further reinforced our position as a fully integrated high-end facility.”

    The color timing helped define locations and enhance and ensure the mood of scenes worked and that the entire movie flowed. On top of color timing, were added, a lot of little nuances fine-tuning on the image such as enhancing the mutant’s traits like the color of the tongue and the eye’s iris details. But most of the detailing time was utilised to ensure the realistic integration of the VFX. Hrithik and Rakesh took a very active role in the DI process ensuring their high vision was reached.

    Commenting on the same, Krrish 3 producer and director Rakesh Roshan said: “I am thrilled and enthusiastic about Krrish 3. This project has all the insightful and risqué visuals we have come to expect from the franchise. I was very confident that Reliance MediaWorks was the “Go to” place for DI and colour grading.  True to expectation they have made Krrish 3 one of the most memorable movies of all time.”

    Rakesh Roshan’s vision, coupled with stunning visuals, has turned the franchise into a thrillingly audacious mix of grand storytelling and powerful and provocative themes.
    With the advent of technology image quality gets superior and thereby the minutest of details need to be highlighted appropriately, which is where a sci-fi film becomes creatively challenging and demands more techno-creative expertise. Add to it the brand value of the Krrish franchise makes working on the project a fruitful experience.

    MUMBAI: With Krrish, Rakesh Roshan, the most original grass root filmmaker in Hindi cinema, turned contemporary when he blended his old school emotion-romance-music formula into a superhero film. While he maintained all the necessary ingredients of Indian cinema, he gave his hero, Hrithik Roshan, extra ordinary powers which he uses generally to help people till his situation is challenged. In Krrish 3, Roshan decides to pit his superhero, Hrithik, with another such power, a super villain, Vivek Oberoi. In the process, Roshan compromises on things he most cherished that is Indian sentiments of mother’s love, romance, music which has been his forte and a strong script. Here it is a script of convenience. For example, his hero, who could not fly, starts doing so when the villain flies!!

    In short, what Roshan has done is to take an age old family story and tried to fit it into a sci-fi superhero movie where, even holding the hero’s family captive by the villain is straight out of last century melodramas. The film is a virtual yellow pages of endorsements as, soon as the film starts you see a number of products being plugged.

     

    Hrithik continues with his stint as the saviour superhero as Krrish 3 opens. But his sudden absence from his work costs him his job as he is presumed to be goldbricking. That is when the villain, Vivek decides to make his presence felt. He uses his genius for all the bad purposes. He is wheelchair bound with only his face and two index fingers functioning but which are enough to cause heavy damage or hurt someone. To cure his condition, Vivek needs a bone marrow from a person matching his own DNA. Having failed to find it in a human being, he mixes his DNA with various animals to create what he calls ‘maanvar’ a mix of maanav and janwar. To finance his experiments, he needs huge sums and to raise which he spreads dangerous viruses which kill thousands in a matter of minutes then cash in on it by marketing its antidote. He starts with   an African country and looking at its success, decides to attack India next.

     

    The deadly virus is spread using public transport, waterlines etc. The doctor who had found an antidote for the virus after learning of the plight of the African country has been killed by one of Vivek’s maanvars, Kangna Ranaut who is made mixing human and chameleon DNAs and, hence, can change forms.

     

    When the virus spreads in Mumbai and people drop dead every minute, Hrithik Sr (father of Krrish) observes that neither he, Krrish nor Priyanka Chopra, pregnant with Krrish’s baby, have been affected by the deadly virus. He realises that the family’s superpower makes them immune and their DNA can be used to devise an antidote. That is achieved and the city is saved. This makes Oberoi a very, very angry man but also makes him think that there has to be a connection  between him and  Hrithik Sr since only one kind of DNA would be able to kill the virus and in some way they both must share the same DNA! It is midway through the film and the tone is set for confrontations as Oberoi wants Hrithik Sr in his custody, for in him lies his own cure.

     

    Oberoi lets loose his variety of maanvars on Krrish household to kidnap Hrithik Sr which demonstrates their strength. The attempt is foiled by Krrish but in the process of doing so, Priyanka is hurt. Admitted to a hospital, she is whisked away from there and Kangna takes her form and takes her place. Her job is to find out how the antidote for the virus was invented. While she fails to do that and only ends up falling in love with Krrish and also imagines a love duet with him.

     

    Hrithik Sr thinks that there is something curious about the events and feels its answer lies in Singapore where (in the earlier version of the film) Naseeruddin Shah had held him captive for long in a comatose condition. He does find out the secret behind Oberoi’s birth but is kidnapped by Oberoi’s goons. Oberoi needs his bone marrow to cure himself; because he has to be on his feet for the final showdown with Krrish.

     

    The long drawn dual between Oberoi and Krrish, spread over instalments, starts in the former’s den and moves out to various streets, skies and rooftops with a lot of destruction and a generous dose of special effects. The film ends with a promise of the next instalment of Krrish series as Priyanka delivers a baby boy with superpowers.

     

    Rakesh Roshan is handicapped by a solid script and an interesting story to tell. The scene where Krrish races over buildings to save an airplane with locked front wheels as he jumps on to them and forces them open to make a safe landing possible promises a lot. But, the film moves only on predictable lines. With other ingredients like romance and music missing, the director has to count mainly on special effect sequences which, of course, are very well executed. The film has just three songs of which Raghupati Raghav is well choreographed while Dil tuhi bata… has some melody element. Background score is effective. Dialogue could have provided some one-liner exchanges between good and evil but are a letdown being of mediocre kind.  The film has few characters of which Hrithik excels in both the roles he plays. Kangna shines in a negative role. Priyanka has limited scope and is good. Vivek Oberoi makes an impact in certain scenes till wheelchair bound but turned into an ironman in the climax restricts him.

    Krrish 3 does not in any way better its earlier version, Krrish; on the contrary it disappoints on some counts. However, due to solo Diwali release and a long gap for a Hrithik film to hit the screens will benefit as the film’s brand equity assures at least one time view for most cine-goers.
