MUMBAI:It’s that time of the year when Sony MAX, the premium Hindi movies channel, brings to you the best of Bollywood flicks right in the comfort of your home. The Indian super hero with a cape, sporting a mask, muscles of steel and a heart of gold-Krrish 3 to premier on MAX on Sunday,8th June 2014 at 1pm and Saturday,14th June 2014 at 8pm.

Sony MAX will be back to showcasing a line-up of engaging movies which would keep the audience entertained. Krrish 3 the blockbuster grossing over 100 crore is about Krishna aka Krrish (Hrithik Roshan) living a happy married life in India with his wife Priya (Priyanka Chopra) and scientist dad Rohit (Hrithik in dual role), while helping the masses with his superpowers and struggling to keep a steady job. In another part of the world, an evil handicapped man named Kaal (Vivek Oberoi) has used his DNA to generate a team of human-animal mutants.  Kaya(Kangana Ranuat)  and other mutants create havoc among the masses of India but are counter-acted by Rohit’s scientific genius.

When asked about the Krrish 3, Hritik Roshan said “A film this size and this magnitude has not been attempted. One of the qualities of Krrish is that we really don’t know the extent of his powers.” Speaking on the magnificent sets created for Krrish 3, he added “Special effects play a very important part in a movie like this, but they can help enhance the movie only to a certain extent, you have to build real sets also for the look and feel. We built one such set in Hyderabad. It was a huge set which ran for almost a mile. We shot quite a lot on this set and I thought it was really an amazing set to shoot at.”

Rakesh Roshan commented about how he conceived the idea of making Krrish 3- “Whenever I make films, I always tend to venture into new subjects, which are difficult and give me sleepless nights. I take these subjects and then I visualize the screenplay which will be appreciated and understood in small towns and also for those who stay in Manhattan or in countries other than India. I make the movies keeping in mind the audiences of the world, and for a movie like Krrish 3 the strongest element is the story and the content. We worked for year on the story, I got the idea of a super villain who has a lot of powers in him, a lot more powers than what Krrish has. We have done a fabulous job and I am very proud that we have done all the VFX work in India.  ”

How will Krrish find Kaal and what will their final face-off entail, find out more in the MAX Television premier of ‘Krrish 3’ on Sunday,8th June, 1PM and Saturday,14th June, 8PM, Only on MAX

Star Plus and Sony gain big in wk 13

MUMBAI: In the week 13 of TAM TV ratings, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) which has been struggling at the sixth position for quite some time now, has finally climbed the ladder of ratings and this week is at number five.

The channel has recorded 362 million GVTs compared to the 313 million GVTs last week, overtook its own sister channel, Sab. The jump can be attributed to the world television premier of the movie Krrish 3.

While Sony can rejoice about its improved ranking, Star Plus continues to lead the flock as it noted 687 million GVTs as compared to 649 million GVTs last week.

All the other GECs saw a decline in their viewership. But even after the decline, Zee TV continues to stand strong at number two, as it registered 461 million GVTs as compared to the 489 million GVTs last week. Colors that scored 454 million GVTs as compared to 468 million GVTs a week earlier, is at number three.

  • Want to woo youngsters? Depend on youth channels

Want to woo youngsters? Depend on youth channels

MUMBAI: In-branding is not unusual today as we see superstars selling the brands they endorse even in their films. Remember Chennai Express and how Shah Rukh Khan endorsed the features of the new Nokia mobile (of which he is also a brand ambassador) in the film. And if you thought it was just him, then you are wrong. Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish 3 had a host of FMCG products being promoted through the movie.

The phenomenon has not spared the small screen as well. Right from the brands to film stars, the small screen has become a popular destination for promotion. However, this time around there is a twist.

With the nation gearing for the upcoming elections, the political parties are doing all that they can to get voters to get inked. This election season the parties are finding innovative ways to connect with the audiences, especially the youth. And if you watch Channel V India, a youth entertainment channel, you would know what we are hinting at.

The main characters of various shows on the channel can be seen talking about how prices have risen in the past years or how it is the time to bring change. This, while a ticker/astrix runs with BJP’s symbol and message.

The political parties – Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) – both in their mission to woo the first-time voters are now targeting youth channels.

“Youth channels are the best way to catch the attention of first-time voters and since we are using different strategies, we thought of trying this as well,” says a source from the media agency handling BJP’s mandate.

The source goes on to say that it is a “different” way to reach our audience. And, one will see a lot of astrixs and L- shaped advertisements on various GECs as well as news channels till the elections commence.

While BJPs in-branding campaign on shows started last week, the Congress had bought ad-spots on Channel V I almost a month back.

Channel V, itself, through various initiatives, is encouraging youngsters to go out and vote. “This doesn’t mean we support a particular party over the other. These are just commercial deals which we sign with agencies handling the parties. There is no association with any party,” clarifies Channel V India, GM & channel head Prem Kamath.

So, the next time you tune in to shows like Sadda Haq or Dil Dosti Dance, on Channel V, do not miss out on the message from the lead characters to go out and vote.

  • ‘Himmatwala’ receives worst film title at Golden Kela Awards

‘Himmatwala’ receives worst film title at Golden Kela Awards

NEW DELHI: Box Office returns notwithstanding, Hrithik Roshan’s Krishh 3 and Ajay Devgn’s Himmatwala topped the list of the worst Bollywood films of 2013 in the sixth annual Golden Kela Awards presented over the weekend.

Ajay Devgn(for Himmatwala) and Sonakshi Sinha (for R…Rajkumar) received the Golden Kelas for the second consecutive year in the worst actor category. Ajay had won the award in 2012 for ‘Son of Sardaar’ and ‘Bol Bachchan’ and Sonakshi for the five films she had acted in during that year. Her co-star in R…..Rajkumar won the ‘Why are You Still Trying’ award for the same film.

Himmatwala, remake of the Jeetendra starrer of 1983 which itself was remake of a Telugu film of 1981 also got the ‘RGV Ki Aag’ Award for the ‘Most Pointless re-make/sequel’, and the ‘Worst Film’ award.

Krishh 3 shared the ‘Ra One’ award for the ‘Worst Premise’ along with Dhoom 3, while it also received an award for the ‘Most Atrocious Lyrics’ for Sameer’s ‘Raghupati Raghav’.

Interestingly, Aamir Khan won the ‘Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke’ award for Dhoom 3. He got it for the ‘high level of stupidity in stunts and action, playing a ridiculously unnecessary double role and finally for succumbing to the dark side of Bollywood.’

Golden Kela Awards creative head Anant Singh, who also presented the programme, said “Aamir Khan once said that he loves the Kela Awards, because all other awards are rigged. Wonder what he has to say about us now.”

The awards are inspired by the Golden Raspberry awards given in Hollywood – commonly known as the Razzies.

The Kela for the ‘Worst Director’ went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Goliyon Ki Raas Leela…Ram Leela.

Actor Vivek Oberoi won the ‘This is too Much Award’ for the four films in which he appeared in 2013 – Krishh 3, Jayantabhai ki Luv Story. Grand Mastie, and Zila Ghaziabad.

‘Aap Yahaan Aaye Kisliye Award’ was given to Uday Chopra and was preceded by a tribute to ‘the late career’ of the actor, ending with the words ‘In memoriam 2000-2013.’

The honour for the ‘Worst Actor (male) in supporting role’ went to Aditya Roy Kapoor for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – a wake-up call that acting needs a lot more than getting high! ‘The Worst Supporting Actor (Female)’ went jointly to Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandes and Amisha Patel for Race 2. Deepika also won the ‘Dara Singh Award for the Worst Accent’ for Chennai Express.

The most ‘Irritating Song’ award went to ‘Party All Night’ from Boss while the ‘Rajshri Award for Most Regressive Film of the Year’ was bagged by Ranjhanaa.

Tennis star Leander Paes got the ‘Worst Debut’ for Rajdhani Express.

The ‘Aakhir Kyun Award’ went to Priyanka Chopra for the music video Exotic and the ‘Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya Award’ was given to Sunny Deol.

Anant said, “Himmatwala was named for obvious reasons including over-the-top acting, irritating melodrama, lame jokes, mindless entertainment, and just about everything else!”

Shahid Kapoor was given the award to make him understand that doing lame comedies and using senseless dialogues like “Silent ho ja, nahi to main violent ho jaaonga”, will not make him a superstar.

However amid this morass, some films received the Anti-Kela awards for being the saving graces of 2013. These include Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns – for being the only real sequel made last year; Go Goa Gone – for being India’s first ever Zombie Comedy and Stoner Film in one cool package; The Lunchbox – for showing the world that Indian films are not all song and dance, and Shahid – for being the best biopic made by Bollywood in a long time.

Golden Kela founder Jatin Varma and filmmaker Abhishek Sharma also gave away some of the awards, and stand-up comedian Zakir Khan teamed up with Anant to provide the humorous touch to the awards.

The weeks releases fail to work at BO, pundits pin hope on Dhoom 3

MUMBAI: Jackpot, Sachin Joshi’s third attempt at seeking recognition as a film actor, has come to naught. Released at a fair number of screens, the film has remained poor in collections as it has only managed 2.8 crore for its opening weekend. It will be tough to feed the cinema halls Monday onwards.

What The Fish makes its debut with cancelled shows due to no show by audience; an exercise in total loss of money and efforts.

R…. Rajkumar has a face saving first week thanks to its collections from single screens away from metros. The film has collected 41.3 crore in its first week with second week expected to gain some due to poor oppositions.

    Club 60 has gone unnoticed.

Bullet Raja continued its poor run in its second week with figures of 2.55 crore taking its two week total to 32.3 crore.

Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela has added 2.85 crore in its fourth week taking its four week total to 103.15 crore.

Krrish 3 has collected 55 lakh in its sixth week to take its six week total to 175.95 crore.

The exhibition trade pins its hopes on Dhoom 3 to end the year 2013 on a positive note as most films they had hopes from have failed to live up the trade’s expectations. Even the movie lovers are looking forward to this Aamir Khan-YRF offering.
