Airtel wooes the Rajni-fans by partnering with ‘Kochadaiiyaan’

MUMBAI: In a strategic move to delight its consumers in Tamil Nadu, Bharti Airtel has partnered with Rajnikanth starrer – Kochadaiiyaan to launch a range of exclusive products and services.

For the first time, RC299 Airtel 3G data recharge coupons were available as Kochadaiiyaan 3D lenticular collectibles with five different Rajnikanth imagery, along with a Kochadaiiyaan special Super Pack with free hello tunes, wallpapers and 3D lenticular key chain. That apart, the customers got a chance to chat LIVE with movie director Soundarya Rajinikanth on Airtel Talk2Me.

Madison Media Plus spearheaded the planning, envisaging and implementation of this experiential OOH campaign in Chennai, in line with the high-tech treatment of the iconic movie.

The OOH campaign was aimed at giving the customers a glimpse of the 3D animated movie through an innovative use of lenticular billboards at Nungambakkam and Parry’s.

What more, Rajni fans responded to the Airtel campaign by literally garlanding the superstar’s lenticular visuals on the billboard!

A perfect case of two icons joining hands to create that extra delight for their set of audiences!

Rajinikanth’s clone jams traffic in Bengaluru on Kochadaiiyaan release day

BENGALURU: It is said that more people watch Sun TV here than they do Udaya TV- there are probably more Tamil speaking people in the Ulsoor Lake area than any other part of Bengaluru. With the Tamil Sangam at Ulsoor Lake, every second shop manned (or womaned) by a Tamilian, a visitor may often mistake this part of ‘Namma Bengaluru’ (Our Bangalore) with any other city in Tamil Nadu. There is one theatre that is the ultimate destination of most Tamil film aficionados in the area – Lavyana.

Every new Tamil movie release has a festive air around. Huge cutouts of the hero are placed everywhere in the vicinity of the theatre and it is a common sight to see some prominent leader of the area arrive with huge garlands that cost more than a month’s wages for most, perform a pooja with the traditional oil lamp and the umpteen number of incense stick. And if the lead actor is a prominent one like Rajinikanth, well he too finds a place with the gods and is worshipped like a deity. This is followed by the bursting of crackers and a general confusion for office gores stuck in a traffic jam.

All that, except for the last, has not happened at the time of filing of this report at Lavyana. The opening of the movie KochadaiiyaanThe Legend has been sedate here until now, but there is no dearth of people waiting in queues to buy the first day first show ticket to spend a few hours with their hero, their idol and God with a capital G.

What caused a mini traffic jam was the arrival of a Rajni clone dressed in the traditional white lungi and displaying more gold than a jewellery shop in Shivajinagar to the theatre. Immediately a crowd collected around the man as soon as he dismounted from his ‘oh so very long car’. Mobile phones from the cheap Chinese smuggled ones to the most expensive iphones and Samsung Galaxy models were whipped out and people sprang to the chance of getting clicked with a human image of their GOD! People rushed to shake the man’s hand, get photographed with him,  while traffic slowed, stopped, crawled, stopped during the 10-15 minutes that the supposed Rajni was there for.

How the movie will fare and whether the people concerned have other plans for a big bang is another matter altogether, only time will tell.

Today, entertainment is finally about business: Manmohan Shetty

MUMBAI: Even as the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC) gears up for the third edition of its ‘IMC FUSION’ under the auspices of its Entertainment Committee, for the first time, the committee will be chaired by film producer-entrepreneur Manmohan Shetty.

Apparently, Shetty was egged on by good friend and construction magnate Niranjan Hiranandani to accept the position. In a candid chat with indiantelevision.com, he spoke of what the conference would be all about this time…

Congratulations on your appointment as chair of IMS FUSION 2014. What will be your prime focus as far as the entertainment industry is concerned?

This time, we are focusing on two aspects of the entertainment industry. One being the business aspect and the other one being the technology used in entertainment. We have invited Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter, Soundarya and Dr Murali, who will talk about the technology deployed in creating stunning visuals in their upcoming film Kochadaiiyaan.

Please elaborate on the business aspect the conference will be touching upon. Who will be talking about the business of entertainment at the conference?

Today, entertainment is finally about business. Big stars are turning producers because they are not only inclined creatively but also want to ensure their movie does good business. I would say the business aspect is more important than the creative aspect. Even students graduating out of film schools like Whistling Woods and others are ultimately looking to make money and do good business.

Answering the second part of your question, we have invited Mukesh Bhatt to expound on the business aspect of entertainment. He will deliberate on how it is possible to make a small-budget film and still reap profits from it. After the success of Vishesh Films’ Aashiqui 2, I think he is the best person to speak on this subject (smiles).

This time, IMS FUSION has tied up with IES Management College and Research Centre. What do you intend to achieve through this collaboration?

The intention is to have a greater interaction with students. We have also invited students of cinema and media. To interact with them, we have invited captains of industry who will share their experiences and insights with them. We believe this will be fruitful for those who want to make a career in the entertainment industry.

Last but not the least, what is the one thing you intend to achieve as chair this year?

I feel people are rather private and personal in this industry. For every production company churning out films through the year, there are many which are unable to produce the same number of movies. So, what kind of talent goes into making commercially viable or financially viable films or any other financially viable projects? I want this information to be disseminated which can happen either by reading or listening to people who’ve already been there, done that… I will be happy if such information is passed on by people who have the knowledge and experience to rank newcomers who will be soon entering the industry. If that happens through IMC FUSION, I will be happy.
