    Keshet partners Shemaroo’s inflight content distribution subsidiary

    MUMBAI: Leading global content producer and distributor Keshet International Studio (Keshet) has partnered Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd’s (Shemaroo) subsidiary Contentino Media for content distribution. Keshet, globally known for producing drama, comedy and entertainment content, will now give exclusive distribution rights to Contentino to sell shows to airlines across Middle-East and Asia.

    Contentino Media, which already provides movies in more than nine Indian languages, will be now providing airlines with global content thanks to the tie-up with Keshet. The library of Keshet includes top-rated shows from all across the world such as Prisoners of War, upon which the award-winning American spy thriller Homeland has been developed. The other notable shows include British show called The A Word and The Brave, an American show. With passengers looking forward to more variety in content during their travel, airlines can opt to provide best to their customers with this tie up.

    Contentino connects with more than 55 airlines all around the world and provides an eclectic mix of content. Some of the major airlines that the company provides content to are Jet Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways. At present, Contentino’s content library consists of more than 4000 movie titles across languages.

    Shemaroo chief operating officer Kranti Gada said, “With this partnership with Keshet, we are excited to broaden our content offering and premium international content. In 2015, we acquired Contentino Media, which helped us enter the inflight entertainment distribution space and, in just a short span of time, we have become one of the leaders. Now, with our partnership with Keshet International, we aim to further strengthen our content library in this space. We are in an era where inflight entertainment is becoming transformative with personal devices becoming gateways to a whole range of surface transport services.”

    Keshet’s head of Asia, Gary Pudney, said, “This deal with Contentino Media demonstrates our strategic approach to audience building. The Asia Pacific market is predicted to be the fastest-growing region for global in-flight entertainment and we hope this deal leads to other opportunities elsewhere.”

    “What is exciting is that we will now offer customers hundreds of hours of international programming to enjoy during their travels which includes critically acclaimed shows like The Brave and top rated European show Holloway Prison – Women Behind Bars. Our foundation in content will help us cross sell our propositions to all airlines,” Gada added.

  • Keshet hires kids content veteran Nicola Andrews to lead acquisitions & sales

    MUMBAI: Keshet International (KI) has appointed Nicola Andrews, a kid’s content expert with more than 20 years’ experience, to lead its recently announced kid’s division. Nicola joins KI as Senior Sales & Commercial Director, Kids, based in London, reporting to Keren Shahar, COO KI and President of Distribution. Nicola will spearhead the company’s sales and commercial operations within the kids and family genre, including acquisitions, co-productions and worldwide sales.

    Nicola’s appointment marks KI’s next phase of expansion in the kids’ content space. It recently formed a partnership with the Ananey Communications Group, which represents the Viacom brands Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV and Comedy Central in Israel, to bring teens’, tweens’ and kids’ series in the global market. Nicola will actively look for new programming opportunities for KI and will be in attendance at the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield (4 – 6 July).

    With a long career in television, Nicola brings a wealth of experience to the new role including television distribution, acquisitions, sales, business affairs, production, licensing and merchandising, retail and advertising sales.

    Prior to joining KI, Nicola was VP of Distribution at Gaumont Television, where she was responsible for selling the firm’s line-up of children’s programming internationally, as well as its French and US scripted dramas. Nicola has also held posts as Head of Acquisitions at Cineflix Rights, Managing Director of London based animation studio BKN New Media and senior sales positions at Sony Pictures and Carlton International.

Limor Gott Ronen has been promoted to VP of Marketing and Communications having built the KI brand from its inception and devised marketing, communications and corporate strategy underpinning the break into new markets as well as full portfolio packaging and positioning.

  • Amazon Prime: Keshet brings ‘Baker and Beauty’ to 200 countries

    MUMBAI: Keshet International (KI) has announced a worldwide licensing deal in more than 200 countries and territories for the addictive Israeli romantic comedy series The Baker and The Beauty. Prime Video will be the premium subscription streaming home for season one and season two which is currently airing in Israel, with both seasons amounting to 20 half-hour episodes.

    Later this year, Prime members will be able to stream The Baker and The Beauty via the Amazon Prime Video app for TVs, connected devices including Fire TV and mobile devices or online. Members can also download the series to mobile devices for offline viewing at no additional cost to their membership. The series will be a global release and available on Amazon Prime Video for members to watch via the Prime Video app or online at PrimeVideo.com in more than 200 countries and territories.

    The Baker and the Beauty, created and written by Assi Azar and produced by Endemol Israel (season one) and Shenhar Productions (season two) for Keshet Broadcasting is one of the highest-rated scripted series ever in Israel and has been successfully adapted The Netherlands (Net 5). The global Amazon deal was brokered by KI senior sales manager Rose Hughes.

    Keshet joins hands with Telefe Argentina for ‘Boom!’ game show

    MUMBAI: Keshet International is launching an international production hub in partnership with Telefe Argentina for the game show Boom! The hub is available for use by all licensors of the format worldwide.

     

    Launched on 30 September, Telefe’s local version of Boom! became the slot leader across Argentina with an average share of 32.9 per cent. The same studio is now available to licensors along with full production crew so that international productions need only supply a cast and showrunner.

     

    This comes after KI and Telefe announced co-developing entertainment formats for global distribution on the back of the successful local adaptation of KI’s interactive talent format Rising Star, the second season of which is now on air.

     

    Boom!’s has also aired in Hungary (TV2), Kazakhstan (Channel Seven), Chile (TVN), and Uruguay (Canal 10, finished Spanish version) with a total of more than 400 episodes commissioned worldwide to date. The show has also performed well in the US on Fox. Versions for Cambodia (Bayon TV) and Peru (America TV) are in the pipeline.

     

    Boom! fuses the drama, thrill and intensity of a blockbuster action movie with the high-octane fun of a video game, creating one literally explosive trivia challenge. The show was created by Keshet, Ido Rosenblum and July August Productions.

    Fox International Channels & Keshet strike global rights deal for ‘False Flag’

    MUMBAI: Fox International Channels (FIC) has inked a deal with Keshet International (KI) for the exclusive first window rights to the drama False Flag (8 x 45’).

     

    This follows from the existing format rights deal the two groups have on False Flag, whose US-adaptation is in development at FIC’s Fox International Studios in partnership with Keshet International. The acquisition of the Hebrew language series firms up FIC’s stake in the franchise and positions the group as exclusive broadcaster across its 127 country strong footprint.

     

    The sale of the original Hebrew language series is unprecedented both in the respect of it being the first ever Israeli series to be acquired by FIC and the company’s first non-English series to be acquired on a global scale. 

     

    The gripping espionage thriller, which sees five ordinary citizens implicated in a high profile kidnapping, has been much talked about internationally following its world premiere as part of a special selection at Berlinale 2015 and its award of the Grand Prize at Series Mania 2015 (The Public Prize) jointly with HBO’s Olive Kitteridge.

     

    FIC EVP scripted programming & original development Sharon Tal said, “We couldn’t be more committed to this exciting TV series. We identified this project at an early stage of development and are thrilled be in partnership with KI and own the rights of both the Israeli version and the US remake. Looking forward to bringing both to the world very soon.”

     

    Keshet International managing director – distribution Keren Shahar added, “We’re very proud of False Flag and are delighted it has found a global home on the FIC network. It’s great to see this world-class Israeli drama travelling worldwide.”

     

    The deal for the original language version was negotiated by KI sales director Cynthia Kennedy and FIC EVP global acquisitions Jason Simms.

     

    False Flag was created by Amit Cohen and Maria Feldman, directed by Oded Ruskin and produced by Liat Benasuly and Maria Feldman at Tender Productions for Keshet Broadcasting.

    Keshet UK hires Sammy Nourmand as COO

    MUMBAI: Keshet UK, part of Keshet International, has appointed Sammy Nourmand to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer, as it steps up the pace of its UK production business and underlines its commitment to the UK market. Nourmand’s appointment is effective immediately giving him oversight of ITV’s version of Keshet’s interactive talent show RISING STAR and several more projects in the development pipeline with UK broadcasters.

    Based in London, Nourmand will report to Alon Shtruzman, CEO of Keshet International which also has local production offices in Canada, Australia, Keshet/DCP in the US in addition to the company’s distribution arm.

    Sammy brings over 20 years’ experience in the UK’s independent TV sector, having worked on a large number of shows including big budget productions for broadcasters in both the UK and US. He was most recently CEO of DCD Media before leaving in late 2012 to take up various consultancy roles with UK and US-based production companies, includingKeshet.

    Keshet International, CEO, Alon Shtruzman said “As our UK office goes from strength to strength I’m delighted to have Sammy on board to navigate our journey during this significant growth period. The experience he has built over many years in the industry will be a great asset to us.”

    Nourmand began his career at Michael Hurll Television, working on the British Comedy Awards. He joined September Films in 1998 and went on to become CEO in 2005. Under his stewardship, the company enjoyed its longest period of sustained growth and stability, more than trebling its turnover and establishing a US office. It was acquired by DCD Media in August 2007.

    Nourmand served as DCD’s Interim COO in 2009 and became an Executive Director in 2011 before his appointment as CEO in February in 2012. During this timehe played a key role setting up joint ventures with UK production companies Matchlight, Rize Television USA and bringing Sequence Post Production into the Group.
