    Relativity, LAMF ink 5-year co-financing & production deal

    MUMBAI: After claiming to have received a fresh infusion of funds to the tune of $100 million, Relativity Media has now entered into a five-year agreement to co-finance and co-produce films with LAMF LLC (Los Angeles Media Fund).

     

    As per the terms of the deal, LAMF will have a limited first look at Relativity Studios’ upcoming slate of feature films.

     

    Under the terms of the partnership, Relativity Studios and LAMF will co-produce and co-finance films to be distributed domestically and internationally by Relativity Studios. The deal follows a co-financing and co-production deal reached by Relativity and LAMF in 2014 for the psychological thriller, The Disappointments Room, directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Kate Beckinsale, set for theatrical release in 2016.

     

    Relativity Studios president Dana Brunetti said, “Relativity and LAMF share a common vision for creating great content. We are thrilled to work more closely with them as Relativity embarks on an exciting next chapter.”

     

    LAMF co-CEO Jeffrey Soros added, “Kevin’s and Dana’s experience and track record as a producing team in creating highly entertaining and commercially successful movies, coupled with Relativity’s new ambitions and distribution capabilities, offer LAMF an exciting platform for collaboration. We look forward to working together on a number of projects to create truly compelling films.”

     

    The partnership with LAMF comes after Relativity earlier this month announced plans to acquire Kevin Spacey and Brunetti’s Trigger Street Productions.

    MUMBAI: FremantleMedia today completed a format acquisition deal with Katalyst Network, co-founded by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, and MTV for the international rights (excluding North America) to the hilarious, hidden-camera reality show,Punk’d. FremantleMedia will launch the title at MIPTV.

    Having launched on MTV in 2003,Punk’dbecame a breakout hit and set a new standard by which other hidden-camera shows were judged. The reality format with a twist features pranks being played on unwitting celebrities and friends. The series creator and Executive Producer, Ashton Kutcher, set out to prove that no one in Hollywood was safe from his devious and hilarious antics, as he masterminded and directedan array of devilish pranks.The celebrity victims never suspected a thing, until it was too late and they realised that they had been punk’d. Punk’d’s previous victims include Justin Timberlake, Jessica Alba, Kate Beckinsale, Katie Holmes, Zac Efron and John Cena.

    Kate Beckinsale to be a part of The Face of an Angel

    MUMBAI: A drama directed by Michael Winterbottom will soon see Kate Beckinsale be a part of the crew alongside Daniel Bruhl and Cara Delevingne.

     

    Scripted by Paul Viragh, the film is based on the book ‘Angel Face’ by Barbie Nadeau with a plot loosely based on Amanda Knox. Amanda Knox was an American woman who was convicted to killing a mate along with her boyfriend in Italy and served four years in prison before the conviction was overturned.

     

    Beckinsale will play a journalist in the movie while Delevingne is playing a suspect and Bruhl is a documentary film maker.

     

    The film will start production in Italy, backed by BBC films and produced by Melissa Parmenter.

    MUMBAI: Total Recall, which was released in 1990, made Rachel Ticotin famous as the bold and beautiful Melina. The role made Rachel a household name and she was signed for many films like First Time Felon, Con air. Arnold Schwarzenegger played the male lead in the film.
    The reboot of this super hit blockbuster, now starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, is ready for release. The film has Jessica playing Melina who will be seen butt kicking the goons.
    The audience awaits the arrival of new Melina with the release of the reboot Total Recall produced by Sony Pictures. The film releases on 3 August.

    Underworld Awakening tops box-office

    MUMBAI: Kate Beckinsale’s latest Underworld movie Underworld Awakening opened at No. 1 this weekend after making an estimated $25.4 million, it is understood.

    While this is the fourth film in the vampire action saga, Beckinsale starred in the first two films as the warrior Selene. After taking a reprieve for part three, she returns for this latest installment.

    Underworld Awakening was shown for the first time in 3D as well as on IMAX screens, where it made $3.8 million or in short 15 per cent of the film‘s weekend gross.
     
    Distributor Sony Screen Gems had hoped the film would end up in the low-$20 million range. But according to the studio‘s president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer the film did even better despite a snow storm that hit much of the Midwest and East Coast.

    Opening in second place was Red Tails from executive producer George Lucas, about the Tuskegee Airmen who were the first black fighter pilots to serve in World War II. The film made an estimated $19.1 million, according to 20th Century Fox, which was well above expectations.

    Last week‘s No. 1 film, the Universal smuggling thriller ‘Contraband‘ starring Mark Wahlberg, dropped to the No. 3 spot with $12.2 million. It‘s now made $46.1 million in two weeks.

    The 9/11 drama from Warner Bros., starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock, came in fourth place with $10.5 million.

    Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh‘s international action film Haywire from Relativity Media, starring mixed martial arts superstar Gina Carano in her first film role, opened in fifth place with $9 million.

    MUMBAI: Aiming to tap any screen, MTV Networks launches 2006 MTV Movie Awards through various interactive platforms.

    The network has set up an interactive hub www.movieawards.mtv.com, viewers will be able to access every aspect of the Movies awards.
    In addition, the network will unveil My Movie Awards on MTV Overdrive, creating opportunity to watch and customize the entire movie awards ceremony, plus experience exclusive content not seen during the show.

    There users can re-experience the awards in their own unique, customized way through MTV Overdrive which will have the entire show in bite-size on-demand segments.

    By creating a personalized highlight reel of the show, or simply watch it in its entirety on demand — it’s all up to the fans. Viewers will also be able to access exclusive footage not seen on-air including, revealing backstage diaries from the night’s celebrities, an in-depth look at the hottest red carpet fashions, interviews with the big winners, and much more.

    My Movie Awards will debut immediately following the on-air premiere of the 2006 MTV Movie Awards on 8 June.
    “Watch the show in its entirety, or mix and customize your favorite moments, My Movie Awards is unlimited access for fans to experience the show exactly as they demand it,” said MTV president Christina Norman.

    “It speaks to our mission — give our audience the opportunity to tap into MTV on any screen they want to — and the Movie Awards promises to be another standout MTV multiplatform event.”

    Jessica Alba will be hosting the 2006 MTV Movie Awards in California. Taking the stage to debut new music and deliver eagerly awaited live performances at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards are Christina Aguilera and punk rockers, AFI.

    Kate Beckinsale, Jamie Foxx, Owen Wilson, Justin Timberlake, Matt Dillon, Will Ferrell, T.I., Kate Hudson, Ludacris, Rebecca Romijn, Kate Bosworth, Famke Janssen, John C. Reilly and Brandon Routh are the first to be announced in the growing list of stars presenting at this year’s ceremony, which promises to be more than an award show, but a movie unto itself, informs an official release.

    Up for starring roles at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards are the 40-Year Old Virgin and Wedding Crashers, each receiving five nominations. Also vying for the spotlight are Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Hustle & Flow, Sin City and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith with three nominations each.

    MTV will also celebrate the all new categories of Best Hero, Sexiest Performance and the ‘mtvU Student Filmmaker Award’ for the first time ever.

    Tenth Planet Productions will once again join MTV to produce the 2006 MTV Movie Awards. Joel Gallen will executive produce the show for the 12th consecutive year, and will also direct the show. Salli Frattini is executive producer for MTV. Rick Austin is Producer and Kathy Flynn will serve as event producer.

    The 2006 MTV Movie Awards will be seen in 171 countries /territories via 50 music programming services, and in 23 languages in more than 479.5 million households, informs the official release.
