  • DC Design unveils two new cars at Auto Expo 2014

DC Design unveils two new cars at Auto Expo 2014

NEW DELHI: India’s premier automotive design and specialist car manufacturer DC Design is ready with two exciting new concepts to delight automobile enthusiasts at the 2014 Auto Expo. Keeping in line with the firm’s philosophy and also its previous track record for delivering drop dead gorgeously styled vehicles, the two new concept cars are production bound in 2016.

The DC Eleron and the DC Tia represent DC Design’s ability to conceive an idea for various niche segments and then design and develop a vehicle with unique attributes that go beyond mere style. While the Eleron is an open Targa-topped SUV with radical lines, the Tia is a nifty two-seater runabout for town use with outrageously crafted lines yet packing in a proven small driveline.

Both the cars were unveiled today by the award winning actress and style icon Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mr. Dilip Chhabria, Founder, DC Design. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Chhabria said, “I want the most desirable car in the world to bear a ‘Made in India’ tag. For Avanti which we launched two years ago we are looking at manufacturing 2000 units per annum starting third quarter of this year. For Eleron and Tia we are looking at 500 units and 1000 units per annum respectively by 2016. We have currently invested in the excess of INR 85 crores for the production of Avanti and INR 50 crores each for the production of Eleron and Tia so far and are looking at further investments in the coming future. We aren’t a global player; we will not build millions of cars a year, but I promise you, the few thousand that we will put out every year will be the sexiest cars on Indian roads.”

Making heads turn at the launch Kareena Kapoor Khan also added, “It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of such a remarkable launch. DC Design is clearly the most prominent and promising name in the Indian automotive design industry. Both Eleron and Tia are spectacular looking cars and are sure to create a buzz amongst Indian auto enthusiasts. I wish the team the very best for these car launches.”

The Eleron is DC Design’s high-end take for a top line SUV with a difference! The name has been phonetically conceived from the aeronautic term ‘aileron’ given that the nature of the car’s design takes in a supposedly duo-layered approach as regards its bodywork, the upper half seemingly floating on the lower base whichever way you tend to look at it.

From the deliciously overwhelming Eleron SUV, DC Design moves fast-forward to the mega-mini segment with its all-new two-seater runabout the DC Tia! It isn’t difficult to understand why such a car given its small footprint but with radical turnout given that the Indian car market’s fortune lies at the base of the pyramid and this is where an added premium positioning is ripe for the times. DC Tia again treads the space frame chassis route with carbon composite bodywork – a sure shot recipe for strength and structural integrity while keeping weight down to a bare minimum.

  • Metro Shoes repositions itself to cater to youth

Metro Shoes repositions itself to cater to youth

MUMBAI: There was a time when people were happy to own a pair or two of shoes, at the most three. Not any more…

With fierce competition among domestic footwear retailers and newer international footwear brands setting shop in the country, not to mention a heightened sense of brand consciousness, customers today are having a field day in terms of the sheer number and variety of shoes available in the market.

So much so, Metro, one of India’s oldest footwear brands, conducted research and found that a majority of its loyalists were 30+ year olds. In a bid to increase its target audience and stay ahead of the competition, Metro has now repositioned itself to provide ‘Shoes for a new race’. The brand believes that with changing times, it needs to change in order to stay relevant to its target audience.

Says Metro Shoes MD and CEO Malik Bhanji: “Since India is a young country, it is imperative that the new positioning of Metro Shoes resonates with the attitude of the youth. The new race doesn’t necessarily believe in following age-old norms; they believe in creating their own. To build a connect with this consumer, we have launched a campaign that twists conventional ideologies, giving them a new meaning.”

Adds Metro Shoes marketing manager Lavina Rodrigues Pinto: “Through our research, we found out that our loyalists are 30+ olds but we wanted to increase our TG. Hence, we thought of repositioning ourselves to be more relevant to today’s youth.”

The refresh isn’t just about a new brand philosophy. Metro has tweaked its product mix to match the attitude and spunk of the younger generation it caters to. “Youngters aren’t scared of experimenting and hence, we have used bold and contemporary designs,” elaborates Pinto.

A budget of Rs 20 crore has been assigned to the repositioning exercise and a 360-degree marketing plan has been launched with outdoor as the main focus for shoe retails.

However, two celebrities who’ve been closely associated with Metro thus far – actors Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan – won’t be the faces of this campaign. Asked why, Pinto clarifies: “Earlier, even though we were a 100+ store chain in the country, people saw us as a neighbourhood store. Hence, we needed to reach out more and give the brand a pan-national feel. In three years, these two actors helped us achieve that, and now we want to move on and make the youth the face of our brand.”

Coming to international brands, although Metro sees competition in companies such as Nine West and Charles & Keith, the brand believes these have only helped Indian brands become more customer-friendly.

Citing the example of how well Fastrack (Indian watches brand) has done, Pinto says: “Yes, today’s generation is more exposed to international brands but if an Indian brand too has an aspirational value attached to it, then there is nothing to worry.”

“Also, we mustn’t forget that even today, fashion is very regionally sensitive in India. For example, we sell more heels in Chandigarh while more flats are sold in Chennai. As an Indian brand, we have an advantage to understand this, unlike the international counterparts,” she adds.

Metro’s expansion plans are very much on track with 16 stores opened this year and plans to open another 20 across the country. The brand also plans to be more aggressive in the e-commerce sector. “We had an online site four years ago but weren’t very aggressive on it but now, as more and more people are getting comfortable with the medium, we will be going the whole hog,” rounds off Pinto.

  • Deepika hasn’t replaced Kareena in Shuddhi: Karan Johar

Deepika hasn’t replaced Kareena in Shuddhi: Karan Johar

NEW DELHI: Rumour mills have it that Deepika Padukone has replaced Kareena Kapoor in Karan Johar’s Shuddhi that is being directed by Karan Malhotra. However, these reports have amused Kareena and everyone else associated with the film as there is no truth to this.

The filmmaker from Dharma Production clarifying the same said in a release: “Kareena Kapoor is very much a part of Shuddhi that stars Hrithik Roshan, directed by Karan Malhotra. The film will commence next year..”

On his part, Karan Malhotra (of Agneepath fame), who is helming the project, also rubbished the rumours and said: “Kareena is very much part of the film. It (rumours of Deepika Padukone doing the film) is not true. We have not approached anyone. It is one hero-heroine project… So it’s only Kareena in the film.”

If sources are to be believed, Kareena is confirmedly a part of the film and has already allotted bulk dates for the same .She is very excited to be reuniting onscreen with Hrithik Roshan since their chemistry has always spelled magic at the box office.

  • Reliance MediaWorks partner with Dharma Productions

Reliance MediaWorks partner with Dharma Productions

MUMBAI: In yet another triumph of great visual post production work Reliance MediaWorks has delivered a whopping 750 plus VFX shots for Gori Tere Pyar Mein. Reliance MediaWorks have partnered with Dharma Productions to offer a complete range of post-production services like VFX, Digital Intermediate and Color Grading for Dharma productions latest offering.

Reliance MediaWorks has a great working relationship with Dharma Productions, built over the years and brings that knowledge and learning to the project. The Reliance MediaWorks team worked closely with the Gori Tere Pyar Mein crew throughout filming, instead of coming in at the tail end of the production. This put Reliance MediaWorks in a position to help shape the overall look and aesthetics of the film.

The goal with the VFX for the film was to be photoreal and keep the audience guessing about implementation. The film is set in a small village in Gujarat; Reliance MediaWorks (RMW) brought out the rural area and gave it a more rustic look through VFX.

Mr. Venkatesh Roddam, CEO Reliance MediaWorks said, “As Gori Tere Pyar Mein’ is an easy-going romantic movie and not a VFX based movie, most of the VFX in the film is invisible. However, the elements that have been created as part of the VFX for the film play an essential role in the plot of the film, thereby making the task of handling the VFX that much more challenging creatively, and significant to the film. The movie is targeted at the youth with a lot of comic inputs, we preferred to keep the color scheme vibrant, yet signifying warmth and romance and switch the looks and textures as per the varying locations.

There is a bridge in the film that forms a crucial element in the story. The same has been created through VFX in post-production, ditto for the river that flows beneath the bridge. The bridge was a modeled and textured computer generated representation of a real bridge. The models built had to be highly detailed because a large number of close-up shots were to be done on the bridge. For the river, various shots of a lake were taken, which were then given depth and magnitude using the VFX technology.

Commenting on the same Punit Malhotra Director Gori tere Pyar Mein said, “For a film like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, no one is really aware of the VFX work. Neither does the storyline indicate, nor is that highlighted in the communication. Thereby the transition of the VFX into the frames had to be seamless and almost invisible and non-intrusive for the viewer. That is precisely the reason why we chose to partner with Team RMW.

One challenge was the set extension (the bridge and the river), since they appear in some scenes shot without cranes or tripods to stabilize the camera. Both the set extensions are very crucial to the film. It was essential that viewers believe that the same were real. It was also necessary to manipulate the physical environment to reflect the mood of the film. Since RMW was also the DI house for the project these types of color adjustments went very smoothly between the VFX and DI departments.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein is directed by Punit Malhotra. The movie stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, and is produced by Dharma Productions.
