    Mumbai: Netflix today announced a long-term partnership with Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment to create a broad range of new fiction and non-fiction series and films exclusively for Netflix members. 

    As the director of eight major films and host of a successful talk show, Johar has a proven track record of telling stories that resonate with audiences all around the world. Netflix and Johar first worked together in 2018 on the much-loved film Lust Stories. He is also involved on two upcoming Netflix films – as a director on Ghost Stories and Guilty produced by Dharmatic Entertainment. Johar has an innate sense of what people care about – and a unique way of telling stories that are universal but also authentically reflect Indian society.

    The new film reveal; brings the viewers into the middle of Gauri and  Shahrukhs’ living room  where a celebration is in commencement to celebrate the couple’s 22nd wedding anniversary. Set against the backdrop of their beautiful living room the story goes on to highlight the appreciation that guests show towards their furnishings, praising Gauri in particular. Shahrukh who feels left out by not being included in the compliment of good taste is told by Gauri that marriage is teamwork,  there is no I or You, its “US”. The home is a refelction of togetherness and companionship of two people.

    MUMBAI: Dharma Productions will be launching an industry-first exclusive loyalty card for its fans. The production house that has given the Indian film industry some of the most iconic films, enjoys an unprecedented fan-following across the globe. 

    The production house has partnered with Paytm which is India’s largest payments company to introduce first-of-its-kind loyalty program will reward their fan family in the country with exciting offers, experiences and tempting discounts. 

    The loyalty card will be exclusively made available through the Paytm app from 3rd July onwards and there is limited availability of the cards.

    Dharma kick-started the year with the blockbuster Raazi along with other movies.     Netflix announces new Indian original film ‘Lust Stories’

    MUMBAI: In order to connect more with Indian audiences, over the top (OTT) giant Netflix has announced the premiere of another original film for India after the huge success of Love Per Square Foot. The new title Lust Stories is directed by the prominent faces of industry, Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, and Dibakar Banerjee.

    Lust Stories laces four short films that deal with real life relationships in modern India each directed by one of the names above. It has a stellar cast from the Indian film industry including actors such as Radhika Apte, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani.

    For this venture, Netflix has again collaborated with Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP as producer in association with Ashi Dua of Flying Unicorn Entertainment.

    “I’m really excited and proud to have been able to do this with Ronnie Screwvala and the four most exciting and exuberant filmmakers in India on a platform that not only gives us the liberty to tell the stories exactly the way we want to, but also tell them to people from countries and cultures that are vastly different from ours. The artist and the aesthetes all connected through the language of films,” said Dua.

    Netflix is banking on Indian content being its gateway to the hearts of the people. Another original Sacred Games is set to release on 6 July. All the Indian originals will be available globally increasing the scope of Indian talent to reach a wide audience worldwide.

    MUMBAI: The 19th edition of FICCI Frames to be inaugurated by the I&B and Textiles minister Smriti Irani on March 4 is all set to be a grand event.

    There are a lot of interesting sessions lined up with few new initiatives this year.

    The annual media and entertainment global convention will kick-start on the 4th evening with the launch event, which will be followed by the CEOs round-table addressed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

    The 4-day event that will commence from the 4th and conclude on the 7th will see the who’s who from the media and entertainment industry attend, including the likes of Karan Johar, Shabana Azmi, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Nandita Das among many others.

    One of the major attractions will be the launch of a content market, which is expected to bring over 70 buyers and sellers of content from across the world to this platform.

    FICCI FRAMES CONTENT MARKET – A CONTENT BUYER AND SELLER PARADISE

    The 1st edition of the Content Market is aimed at facilitating the business of Content. Over 70 buyers from across the globe have been invited for the bazaar, including the likes of 102 Distribution, Edko Films, Shoreline Entertainment, Spuul, Top Entertainment, Aurora Global Media Capital, Front Row entertainment, Alpha Violet Sarl and Indian companies like Zee enterprises, Star, Eros Now, Reliance entertainment among others.

    In the first edition of the market, a special screening facility has also been set up to introduce festival programmers and key buyers to a highly curated slate of new Indian films. Festival programmers from International film festivals such as London, Venice, Edinburgh among others will also be in attendance.

    With over 100 sellers and over 70 buyers of content expected to be part of the 1st content market organized by FICCI, this sets the ball rolling for greater content exchange.

    Speaking about the 1st content market Leena Jaisani, FICCI said “This is being organized with the support and advise from the media and entertainment industry professionals. There was a dearth for such a market and with this first step, we hope to move ahead towards filling this void and facilitating more business for content.”

    Govt to help revitalise DD under ‘autonomous Prasar’, dubs censors as ‘facilitators’ within law

    MUMBAI: Union information and broadcasting minister Smriti Irani on Friday said the government saw agencies including the Censor Board “as facilitators” within the ambit of the law. Irani was speaking at a World Economic Forum-India Economic Summit session moderated by film maker Karan Johar in New Dlhi.

    She added that the government would consider a suggestion to help bring out a television series on freedom fighters to be telecast on the pubcaster Doordarshan.

    Defending the central government on demonetisation and the way Good and Services Tax (GST) regime was implemented, she said that the NDA was voted to power to change the status quo by taking difficult decisions. She said that those decisions were taken with a view to simplify the tax regime, increasing tax compliance, widening the tax base and increasing productivity.

    Revitalising Doordarshan: At an earlier event — CyFy 2017, by Observer Research Foundation, Irani had said that the government was planning to revitalise Doordarshan. She spoke of the government’s problems in improving the functioning of the Doordarshan as it was under the jurisdiction of an autonomous body — the c
    However, Irani made it clear that she would also like the Doordarshan to be a world-class channel which Indians and the diaspora would be proud of.

    The government, the minister said, was also planning to promote positive storytelling, and added that it would promote the film “Lunchbox” at the upcoming Goa International Film Festival. India, she said, had several good writers, actors, and other creative artistes capable of making world-class films, but the problem arose when the producer looked at the balance sheet.

    The minister opined that the social media by and large had brought balance with the main media, since it could criticise biased articles and commentaries in newspapers which was not possible a few years ago. She agreed with the Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt who had said: “The norms and values of the internet should be the values and the norms of society.”

    MUMBAI: Amazon Prime is loading its platform with worthwhile content with each passing month and week. It is moving swiftly on having original as well as acquiring aggregated content. Now, it has plans to add more originals, and is also looking at having regional content. Amazon has content deals with Mukesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series for their existing and upcoming films.

    In India, apart from reportedly being in the neck-and-neck IPL race as it aims to bring exclusive cricket content to its viewers, it has recently signed up deals with superstar Salman Khan, reputed filmmakers — Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Amazon Prime Video announced a first-of-its-kind, worldwide exclusive content deal with Salman Khan Ventures which made Amazon the exclusive streaming home of future titles of Khan commencing with the recently released Tubelight.

    Amazon Prime Videos has said that it would roll out three more original series by the end of 2017 calendar year. The move comes as its first India-produced series has found a favourable global audience. Amazon Prime director & country head Nitesh Kripalani told BusinessLine that they were looking to create content which could also be taken to the global market. Original content would be the key differentiator, he added.

    The OTT arm of Amazon has also partnered with around 50 content creators and production houses to enhance its offerings including Excel Media, Phantom Films (Stardust), Big Synergy (Vishpuri) and AIB.

    Original content is a plan that Amazon follows in the global market. It streams series such as You are wanted in Germany, Hitoshi Matsumoto for Japan, and The Man in the High Castle in the US.

    Kripalani said that the company was evaluating regional content. India was like many countries within a country where stories were quite different region-wise. The company was looking at the regional market. he added.

    Prime Video head of content – Asia Pacific James Farrell has said that India was a top priority market for Amazon and they believed that the love India has for films, the passion, the energy and the talent of India needed to be on a worldwide stage for the global audience. Kripalani is on threshold of unleashing the streaming service’s first Indian original — Inside Edge, with, voila, all of only 10 episodes on 10 July across 240 countries.

  • Colors to air live Saif & Karan-hosted IIFA awards on 16 July

    MUMBAI: As the countdown to the biggest celebration of Indian cinema worldwide draws near, the IIFA management revealed that the charismatic duo — Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar, would host the upcoming NEXA IIFA Awards powered by Vivo at the iconic MetLife Stadium.

    Bollywood’s youth icon Varun Dhawan is all set to make a debut at IIFA Awards with a stunning performance and will be also be seen co-hosting a segment of the star-studded awards night.

    The 18th Edition of IIFA awards will air exclusively live on Colors from New York at 9am and repeat at 6pm on 16 July 2017, Sunday. IIFA Awards 2017 will witness performances by Bollywood superstars, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Shahid Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon, to name a few.

    Johar said, “New York will be spellbound with the magic of IIFA!” Khan added, saying, “This year it’s going to be super fun and glamorous in every way as Karan and I are going to have lots of surprises.” Dhawan shared: “This year is truly going to be a grand celebration and I can’t wait to be there!”

    Wizcraft director Andre Timmins says, “The line-up is being enhanced with more star power with Dhawan making his debut performance on the IIFA stage with a spectacular act and co-hosting for a special segment this year.”
