    Kamal Basu appointed marketing head at Volkswagen

    MUMBAI: Volkswagen Group Sales India has appointed Kamal Basu as marketing and PR head for Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

    Basu, who joined Skoda Auto India as marketing head in 2012, oversaw product marketing, lead management, communication and media, and also worked closely with sales, after-sales and dealer network teams. In addition to his work in automobile marketing, Basu has a very strong background in advertising, having spent close to two decades working with top-level agencies like RK Swamy BBDO, Rediffusion Y&R and with Saatchi & Saatchi as CEO.

     “I’m happy to have contributed to Skoda’s performance in India over the last three years, and am happy to take up the new challenge of bringing fresh thought and new ideas to Volkswagen India’s marketing effort. Volkswagen is an iconic automotive brand with great history and a strong legacy, and I hope to make a contribution towards the growth of this brand in the Indian car market,” said Basu.

    Commenting on the appointment, Volkswagen Passenger Cars director Michael Mayer said, “We are pleased to welcome Kamal on board here at Volkswagen India. Kamal is a seasoned marketing professional and I’m sure he will be a strong and valuable addition to our team. Kamal will play a key role in further developing the strengths of the Volkswagen brand in India.”

    Basu’s appointment is effective from 1 January 2015.

    MUMBAI: Kamal Basu, who quit Saatchi & Saatchi India in November, will be joining automobile company Skoda India as marketing head from January next year.


    Sources in the company confirmed the development to Indiantelevision.com.


    Basu had called it a day at Saatchi & Saatchi India in as CEO after serving the agency for 11 years. He was replaced by Matt Seddon who has joined in from Ace Saachi & Saatchi Philippines.


    Prior to Saatchi & Saatchi, Basu had also worked with O&M as VP- client servicing for eight years.


    He was not reachable till the time of filing this report.

    MUMBAI: Matt Seddon, the newly appointed Saatchi & Saatchi India CEO, who will be replacing Kamal Basu, is all set to take the advertising agency‘s India business to newer heights.

    Talking to Indiantelevision.com, Matt revealed his plans for the growth in Saatchi & Saatchi India, which he thinks “needs to improve dramatically”.

    “For a global company like ours in a market like India, we need to dramatically improve our performance. The India and China businesses are not performing as good as other worldwide businesses,” he said. 
     
    Seddon, who will be shifting base from Manila, the Philippines, feels that India shows lots of potential but it is a challenge to tap the market. He said, “My job in India would be to take the business to the new level. There is a need to do better in India. It is both a challenge and opportunity. In India we are not meeting the real potential.”

    “I presently have three objectives in mind after I take over as Saatchi & Saatchi India CEO. Emersion and understanding of the business of India is the first thing on the list. I will sit with Kamal Basu (current CEO, serving notice period) and team and understand about the Indian clients, the market, capabilities of Indian offices, growth opportunities and then take necessary steps accordingly. I will refocus and recognise the business for growth. I will aim to grow the business with existing clients and also grow by roping in new clients”, he added.

    Digital media is evolving both in India and worldwide and Seddon feels that digital mind is required for the business‘s growth today. “It‘s important to facilitate digital thinking throughout the agency.”

    Seddon will be shifting to India in January 2012 and will be operating from the agency‘s Mumbai office.

    MUMBAI: Saatchi & Saatchi CEO Kamal Basu has resigned.

    Basu, who served the company for 11 years, will be replaced by Matt Seddon who is currently vice chairman and CEO Ace Saachi & Saatchi Philippines.
     
    Confirming the news Basu said, “My journey with Saatchi & Saatchi has been outstanding. These 11 years were nothing short than excellent. Every person needs change and this is why I decided to quit”.
     
    Basu joined Saatchi & Saatchi in 2000 after he left O&M where he worked in client servicing as VP for eight years.

    MUMBAI: Carlsberg India has appointed Saatchi & Saatchi, Delhi as its creative partner.

    As part of the mandate, Publicis Groupe‘s agency will handle all communication development for the Carlsberg and Tuborg beer brands in India.

    The association between Saatchi & Saatchi and Carlsberg globally dates back to the 1970s when Carlsberg’s tagline, ‘Probably the best beer in the world’, was created by the agency for the UK market.

    Carlsberg India marketing director Subodh Marwah said that they have an ambition to ‘be the fastest growing beer company in India‘ and believe that Saatchi & Saatchi would help to deliver the desired results.

    ‘We selected them as they have a mature understanding of the issues and opportunities and are not just able to articulate that, but also manifest it in creative and impactful ways. This is what we are looking for, and which is what they have demonstrated on the other global brands they work on. They are also our advertising agency in a few other countries and the best practices and insights sharing would give additional perspectives,‘he concluded.

    Saatchi & Saatchi wins Rs 200 mn Wave Infratech account

    MUMBAI: Publicis Groupe‘s Saatchi & Saatchi has won the account of Delhi-based Wave Infratech, following a multi-agency pitch.

    The size of the account is 200 million.

    The primary objective of the pitch brief was to create and strategise the brand architecture for Wave Infratech, which included defining and developing a character identity for the brand.

    The agency will define the SOP‘s for marketing and providing marketing strategy support for all Wave Infratech projects.
     
    Commenting on this development, Saatchi & Saatchi India CEO Kamal Basu said, “In the new mix of business we are handling out of Saatchi & Saatchi, this one puts us in the middle of an important and exciting market segment in the country. Wave Infratech is arguably one of the few players in real estate who have the wherewithal to be counted among the topmost in the business”.

    In order to venture into cities like Kanpur, Agra, Jaipur, Meerut, Bareily, Jammu and Amritsar, Wave Infratech will invest heavily.

    MUMBAI: Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi Delhi has roped in Jaibeer Ahmad as the new vice president.

    In his advertising career spanning over a decade, Ahmad has worked with some of the top advertising agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather, Lowe, FCB and Rediffusion.

    Starting his career with RK Swamy BBDO, Ahmad got his first exposure to advertising with brands such as Dabur and Educare. Since then, he has worked on some of the most exciting brands like Airtel, Nestle, SABMiller, Allout, Whirlpool and LG.

    During his stint at Rediffussion, Ahmad handled Airtel before being made business head on LG.

    In 2010, Ahmed got to experience marketing from the client’s standpoint. Having joined Samsung Electronics, he looked after the marketing communication for their air-conditioner business. This gave him a perspective on the total communication business.
