MUMBAI: Hyderabad’s boldest design house, Kalon Art Jewellery, has turned heads and algorithms alike by teaming up with Bollywood’s first AI sensation, Naisha Bose, for its new “Wildfire” collection. With this partnership, Kalon becomes the first Indian jewellery brand to appoint an AI muse, placing Naisha Bose among its glittering lineup of real-world icons including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Malaika Arora, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kalki Koechlin. But this time, the sparkle isn’t just from the stones it’s from the code.

  • Maharishi Ayurveda launches its new campaign #RightYourWrongs

Maharishi Ayurveda launches its new campaign #RightYourWrongs

Mumbai: Maharishi Ayurveda has announced the launch of its new campaign, #RightYourWrongs, featuring actress Kalki Koechlin. Known for her off-beat and intense performances, Kalki will be seen donning the hat of a standup comic for the first time in a series of three video commercials that will be launched digitally.

The campaign uses humour to connect with Gen-Z audiences consuming video content across Instagram and YouTube. Ayurveda, the centuries-old Vedic science, is making a comeback. Globally, health experts and influencers are leaning on Ayurveda for holistic and root cause-based solutions. The brand Maharishi Ayurveda has been combining the power of authentic Ayurveda with modern science for over four decades to promote holistic health.

A leader in markets across Europe, North America and the Middle East, the brand is now looking to make young Indians aware of the true power of Ayurveda through its marketing campaigns. The #RightYourWrongs campaign is a step in that direction with the focus on oral health, which in Ayurveda is considered the gateway to overall health. The campaign has been timed around the upcoming festive season in India.

Through the three DVCs, Kalki will unearth a concept not known to many – saliva imbalance – that is often at the root of most dental problems, including tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath, sensitivity, and if neglected can lead to other systemic health problems over time.

The DVCs will also offer a solution to the problems in the form of Ayurdent toothpaste, an innovative new formula crafted with 20 potent Ayurvedic herbs designed to cleanse, purify, and stimulate healthy saliva production.

Speaking on her association with the campaign, Kalki Koechlin said, “I had a lot of fun working on the Maharishi Ayurveda #RightYourWrongs campaign. There were a few reasons why I just had to do it. The first one was the premise itself. To talk about something as common and ‘non discussion worthy’ as saliva was both bizarre and intriguing. Also, I had never played a stand-up comic – neither in films, nor for any OTT shows. So, this was new to me. But most importantly, Ayurveda and nature-based lifestyle has been a transformative journey for me, and I believe it has the power to positively impact and heal us.”

“The whole world is waking up to Ayurveda, albeit a bit late. But unfortunately, for many young Indians, Ayurveda is ‘not cool’. As a brand, Maharishi Ayurveda is committed to delivering the authentic Ayurveda experience to people all over the world. We are striving to establish a comprehensive healthcare system for a healthier society and world, even relevant for the modern-day lifestyle. Which starts with being discovered by many more consumers,” said Maharishi Ayurveda global D2C business & marketing head Rajat Wahi.

“We’re looking at being far more aggressive with our marketing efforts and connecting with the younger audiences. Kalki is always brilliant, and her comic timing is immaculate. For us, the combination of Kalki and Comedy was a sure shot at our TG seeking us, versus us knocking at their screens with traditional conversations,” he added.

The DVCs have been created by Soumitra Karnik, an independent creative consultant.

  • As ‘Gully Boy’ completes five years, Zoya Akhtar shares her favourite scene with IMDb

As ‘Gully Boy’ completes five years, Zoya Akhtar shares her favourite scene with IMDb

Mumbai: Zoya Akhtar’s directorial Gully Boy, inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy, has reached a significant milestone, celebrating five years of release. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Murad Ahmed, a final-year college student who resides in the Dharavi slums of Mumbai, nurturing a passion for underground rap music. Alongside Singh, the film features Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, and Vijay Raaz.

In a recent conversation with IMDb marking the five-year anniversary of Gully Boy, Akhtar discussed her favourite scene from the film and highlighted Ranveer’s character, Murad’s predicament of being denied access to certain places in the city. She expressed, “When he (Murad) gets a job as a driver, he’s always seen outside the bungalow. When he drives the lady of the house for a night out, he stands outside the club. He can’t even be near the door. He only has access to the government hospital or the college where he’s a student.”

Elaborating and dissecting Murad’s journey as an artist, she added, “As he evolves as an artist, his access expands. This is the first time he enters the home of someone like Sky (Kalki Koechlin). He’s never been to those high-rise apartments. He finds himself in her restroom and can’t help but notice that it’s the size of his entire home.”

Akhtar also shared insights into the challenges faced while filming this particular scene, mentioning how she struggled to find a suitable location and reached out to her friend Suzanne Khan for assistance. Khan provided a show flat she had designed for a building, where they ultimately shot the scene. Reflecting on the process, Akhtar said, “During rehearsals, we realised there was no running water. So we improvised, starting the scene with him (Singh) wiping his hands. Ranveer improvised by neatly placing the hand towel back, which touched my heart because he didn’t want to disrupt the perfection of the space. Then he proceeds to measure the room, unable to believe that someone has a restroom in their home as big as his entire house. To me, that encapsulates everything—the divide, the disparity, the unfairness. It’s everything.”

  • Her Story wins Red Dot Award for brand and communication design

Her Story wins Red Dot Award for brand and communication design

Mumbai: Modern fine jewellery maison Her Story has made a mark at this year’s Red Dot awards, one of the most prestigious global design awards, respected internationally as a touchstone of good design. The brand brought home the Red Dot Award for Brands and Communication Design 2023, celebrating creative thought, impact and the seamless integration of a powerful concept across touchpoints. This win is particularly noteworthy as it positions a young modern Indian brand’s in-house efforts towards aesthetic and conceptual excellence ahead of some of the world’s top advertising agencies and global brand campaigns. On 3 November 2023, winners will be celebrated in Berlin at the Red Dot Gala, while their work will be published in the Red Dot International Yearbook – Brands and Communication Design. The award-winning brands and creative works are also presented to a wide audience in exhibitions at the Museum für Kommunikation in Berlin and the Red Dot Design Museum Essen. Other exhibition locations include the Red Dot Design Museums in Xiamen and Singapore.

The meticulous evaluation process for the Red Dot Distinction for the Advertising, Integrated Communication category, which had over 9,000 entries from more than 50 countries, included the criteria: originality and creativity, design quality and innovation, and impact and emotional significance. The Modern Perspectives campaign (2022-2023) opened up a dialogue on modernity and questioned stereotypes, gender-assigned roles and expectations. It celebrated the perspectives of modern women through the stories of five inspiring personalities – Anoushka Shankar, Smriti Mandhana, Kalki Koechlin, Twinkle Khanna, and Sobhita Dhulipala, capturing aspects of women that are often challenged by constructs of society. The campaign brought alive their personalities, showcasing keywords and ideas that resonate with them, through black-and-white and colour portraits and authentic visual storytelling that allowed audiences an intimate look at each woman’s real-life thoughts.

Each woman answered a question, contextualised to her own life. How does one achieve ‘balance’, as women are expected to ‘perfectly’ handle multiple roles; what does ‘freedom’ mean to a woman in different aspects of her life and in various societies? Who defines ‘ambition’, and what does ‘tradition’ mean to a woman who considers herself a global citizen? And in it all, we celebrate the beauty of choice of the modern woman.

Launched at the close of November 2022 leading to the opening to the brand’s one-of-a-kind flagship at Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, as a combination of a ‘teaser’ and ‘reveal’ campaign, Modern Perspectives caught the attention of consumers through five questions without immediately unveiling the identities of the five women. The intent was to create a moment of intrigue and introspection. The treatment of the campaign was unique in the brand’s decision not to counter those stereotypes with a stance of its own, but rather extend a seemingly simple question – so that every woman may discover her own answers in the context of her own life.

Brand director Sitanshi Talati-Parikh, who conceptualised and directed the campaign said, “As a meaningful brand, it was important for us to open up a dialogue on modern values, with subtlety as well as depth, and without presumptions. It has been wonderful to receive global validation on the concept, execution and emotional significance from an award that is truly respected and coveted by the creative minds of the world. What really brought home the award to us, though, were the voices of people who shared how the campaign impacted them in their lives. How it made them think, and made them question fundamental modern values that we often don’t stop to consider. To have made a difference in the way someone thinks, to have impacted someone’s life in a positive way, is what is truly humbling and gratifying.”

The impact of the campaign extended across an array of touchpoints. From prominent billboards in Mumbai and thought-provoking conversations on digital platforms, to luxury media coverage, meaningful events with the faces of the campaign, and a synergy with the brand’s own editorial-style communication, Modern Perspectives left an indelible mark – forging a meaningful connection with a diverse audience.
