    Star unveils downloadable video content on indya.com

    MUMBAI: The Star Group’s internet portal, indya.com has announced the launch of a digital entertainment store, by which users can download content. Among top shows on the network, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Koffee With Karan will be made available for download. indya.com is also working with other content providers to bring Indian documentaries, current affairs updates, films and music online.

    The service is powered by Direct2Drive, Fox Interactive Media’s digital retail store, which already offers an array of downloadable film, television and anime content from providers, such as 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate Films, and Starz Entertainment. Users can access the service at http://broadband.indya.com.

    Single episodes are now available for free on a trial basis in order to allow users to sample the quality of the content and service. Additional episodes are priced starting from US$0.99 though special discounts are available for bundle purchases. Additionally, indya.com’s exclusive recap episodes will be available for top serials, chronicling an entire week of events in a 45-minute specially created recap. Recap episodes for shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, are available now in the same week as aired on TV, with other shows to be added to the mix in the near future, informs an official release.

    It will be available worldwide and is targeted at broadband-enabled South Asian audiences in the U.S., U.K., Canada and South East Asia.

    The new service is offered via a “download-to-own” model, in which content is downloaded to the end-user’s PC. Purchased content is then playable on up to two Windows Media compatible devices, including portable players, allowing consumers to view their content on the go, adds the release.

    “This is the first time an Asian internet portal has made this kind of scale of entertainment content available online,” said Star India executive vice president and head, interactive media Ajay Vidyasagar. “We are very pleased to be able to launch the service with a number of Star’s popular properties and look forward to working with other content providers in order to offer broadband enabled South Asians the world over the best entertainment content for download.”

    Generation leap takes ‘Kahaani…’ atop ratings heap

    MUMBAI: The leap theory has delivered yet again for India’s lead Hindi entertainment channel Star Plus. The channel’s second biggest show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’s generation leap episode (Week 46 of 2006) has garnered a whopping 15.3 TVRs to top the ratings charts.

    The Wednesday episode reached out to more than 12 Million viewers (Source: TAM, Base: C&S 4+, Hindi Speaking Markets). This is a record-breaking ratings of sorts because no other show this year has delivered such phenomenal ratings, a statement issued by the channel claims.

    Star Plus overall week-day as well as weekend prime-time has simultaneously improved – with a total recorded growth of 14 per cent over the previous week.

    Additionally, the channel’s recent launch – Karam Apnaa Apnaa – has also performed well by touching its highest average rating of 6.93. Out of the weekend programming pool of Star Plus – Sai Baba has recorded the highest ratings of the year with 7.22 and Prithviraj Chauhan also has touched the highest ever rating of 8.55 TVR, the channel asserts.

    MUMBAI: Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is all set to take yet another 18 year leap by introducing its generation next on 15 November.

     

    With the new generation, Parvati Bhabhi will also be in a never seen before avatar – her wardrobe, her style, her appearance will change and the new makeover is given to her by designer Manish Malhotra.

     

    Parvati has always been the ideal bahu for the Aggarwal family, even when Shruti (Om-Parvati’s daughter), Krishna (Kamal-Nivedita’s son) and Monalika (Avantika-Ajay’s daughter) took the centre stage. And now, it’s once again time to hand over the stage to the younger generations of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii – the primary characters leading this new generation being – Sanskar (Shruti’s son) and Mythili (Parvati’s accountants daughter), Adi (Shikhar’s son) and Pragati (Gun’s daughter).

     

    The Current Story:

    The story currently revolves around the three younger ladies of the family Shruti (Parvati’s daughter), Gun (Parvati’s bahu) and Sonu (Gaurav’s daughter), who share the news of their pregnancy with the family and Parvati comes to know about Ranu (Rajeshwari Mehra) and her relation with Suyash Mehra. Krishna gets killed in exactly the same way as Om was murdered. Parvati goes onto find out that the cause and means of the murder and also leaves some proof on the murder site. She is sent to jail for the murder charge of Krishna and Om with all the hatred from everyone including Shruti her own daughter, where she meets Narayani Devi (Aroona Irani) who becomes her Godmother and helps her in making her new life.

     

    The story going forward:

    After spending many years of her life in Benares, Parvati comes back to Mumbai. Parvati, who has always been the Sita, now takes on the teachings of the Bhagwad Gita as she prepares to fight her own to win back her own. Apno ke liye, apno ke khilaf. It is a side of Parvati that one has never seen before, as she dons a modern persona, who will employ every means to defeat her enemies.

     

    The generation next:

    The four main characters of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’s generation next are Mythili, Pragati, Sanskar and Adi. They are the young teenagers who define their own mode of living and bring a colour and set of values to the show that has not been explored before. Along with a passionate love story, the generation next of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii will bring freshness and verve to the show.
