Max Marketing marks 10 years of redefining film promotions in India

MUMBAI: India loves a blockbuster but in the last decade, it wasn’t just films making waves, it was the campaigns behind them. This August, Max Marketing & Innovations, the brainchild of Varun Gupta, marked 10 years of rewriting the rules of film promotion in India, turning over 150 releases into cultural moments. From concerts that made characters come alive to billboards that became landmarks, Max’s decade-long playbook is a masterclass in spectacle. For Kabir Singh, they staged a live concert; for Satya Prem Ki Katha, they turned a white heart emoji into a trending symbol of love and acceptance. In Ayodhya, they even unfurled a 50-ft poster at Ram Ki Paidi, creating a historic fusion of cinema and sacred space.

Actors and filmmakers have been unanimous in their applause. Ranveer Singh calls Max’s campaigns “spectacle-making,” Tabu says they’re “always fresh, always impactful,” while Vishal Bhardwaj insists that “promotion today is as much storytelling as the film itself and Max weaves that magic.” From Anil Kapoor to Sooraj Barjatya, Kabir Khan to JP Dutta, the chorus is the same: Max doesn’t just market films, it creates memories.

Their portfolio reads like a greatest hits playlist: RRR, Animal, Article 370, Major, Padman, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Hanuman, all stamped with the agency’s flair for scale and innovation. Beyond splashy stunts, Max has championed inclusivity too, with campaigns like the “Common Man’s Campaign” that put films on autos, buses, and metro hoardings, ensuring cinema met audiences in their daily grind.

Reflecting on the milestone, Gupta says: “From day one, our aim was to craft experiences, not campaigns. The next ten years are about pushing boundaries further, creating stories that outlast opening weekends.”

As Max steps into its second decade, the stage is set for an even bigger act where cinema, technology, and culture collide. If the last 10 years proved anything, it’s this: when Max is in the picture, the marketing itself is part of the show.

‘My Melbourne’ hits home, Indian directors put Aussie city on silver screen

MUMBAI: Ever felt the urge to pack your bags for Melbourne, but your wallet disagreed violently? Relax, India’s finest filmmakers are bringing the Aussie charm straight to you. Forget about flight costs and pesky visas—My Melbourne is your cinematic passport, presenting a city bursting with diversity, cricket fever, and more multicultural spice than your favourite curry.

Premiering in Australia and New Zealand on 6 March 2025 and released in India on 14 March, My Melbourne is co-presented by Visit Victoria and is an anthology of four unique stories. Directed by India’s film powerhouses—Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Onir, and Rima Das—the film explores identity, belonging, and the spirit of multicultural Melbourne through true-to-life narratives.

Each director puts their signature spin on stories woven around diversity’s four pillars: sexuality, gender, disability, and race. Curious yet? Let’s dive into these captivating tales:

In Nandini, directed by Onir, Indraneel, a queer Indian man, reunites with his estranged father in Melbourne for a ceremonial ritual. Expect some father-son fireworks, raw emotions, and maybe a box of tissues.

Jules, directed by Arif Ali under the creative guidance of Imtiaz Ali, follows Sakshi, a newly married woman bonding with Jules, a homeless local. Who knew friendship could bloom amid Melbourne’s streets, coffee shops, and unpredictable weather?

Rima Das directs Emma, a heartfelt story of a talented deaf dancer overcoming discrimination and self-doubt after an inspiring meeting with another deaf dancer. Talk about dancing to your own rhythm!

And then there’s Setara, a real-life epic directed by Kabir Khan, about a courageous 15-year-old Afghan girl rebuilding her life in Melbourne after fleeing the Taliban. Cricket and resilience? Move over, Hollywood superheroes.

“Through this cinematic journey, explore the uniqueness of Melbourne that makes it every bit different. Enjoy Melbourne through this creative lens that showcases art, culture, food, sport, entertainment and hidden laneways. Don’t miss this colourful celebration of unity and diversity!” says the film’s promotional team. A bit dramatic? Maybe. But hey, it’s cinema!

So, why not grab some popcorn and experience Melbourne’s captivating diversity right from your couch? Beats battling jetlag any day.

On the occasion of India’s 70th Republic day, the release of The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye, is my attempt to take their story to the world. The album from the show, today’s musical serenade by the LIVE 1000 band, all capture the very spirit of the Azad Hind Fauj.”

  • Amazon Prime Video to launch ‘The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye’ on 24 Jan

Amazon Prime Video to launch ‘The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye’ on 24 Jan

MUMBAI: Amazon Prime Video has launched the trailer launch of its first Indian Original releasing in 2020 – the highly anticipated Amazon Original Series The Forgotten Army- Azaadi Ke Liye.

Created and Directed by the national award winning filmmaker, Kabir Khan, the war epic is based on true events and narrates the journey of the extraordinary young brave men and women who formed a part of the Indian National Army (INA) and fought against the British for India’s Independence. The series marks the digital debut of Sunny Kaushal and the acting debut of Sharvari in lead roles, alongside Rohit Choudhary, Karanvir Malhotra, M.K Raina, TJ Bhanu and Shruti Seth.

The Forgotten Army- Azaadi Ke Liye is set to release across 200 countries and territories on January 24, 2020, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon Prime Video India director and head, content Vijay Subramaniam, said “We have had a great run in 2019 and are delighted to open the new year with one of our biggest shows till date. The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye, is a story close to our hearts and one that Kabir has wanted to make for over 20 years. It is the ultimate example of the engaging content we want to continue to create in India for Prime Video – compelling stories with world class production values. We’re extremely proud to bring this show to our audiences and fittingly, on this Republic Day weekend.  We are sure they will enjoy watching it.”

Creator and director, Kabir Khan said, “Being the first script I’ve ever written, The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye is a project I am very passionate about. It is a tale that is larger than life and bringing it to screen would not have been possible without the support and trust exhibited by Amazon Prime Video. The journey of these soldiers of the INA is a story that needs to be told and it has taken several years of extensive research to gather fragmented memories of these incredibly brave men and women who fought so selflessly for India’s independence. The reaction to the teaser alone has been overwhelming and I hope the audience gives the same kind of love to the show as well. This project has been a labour of love – from custom creating hundreds of bicycles from the 1940s, to recreating the Singapore of that era, to finding just the right cast to give life to these characters, our only effort has been to truly represent the journey of these fiercely brave men and women to whom we owe our freedom.”
