    MUMBAI: Digital video-on-demand (VOD) platform Spuul has partnered with Dharma Productions for its existing library. This move is in keeping with their strategy for 2016 to become the dominant player in the Indian movie content – both Bollywood and regional.

    In addition to the Hindi version of Bahubali, other blockbuster movies like Kapoor & Sons, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, will be added to the library for Spuul’s premium subscribers in countries rich in the Indian diaspora.

    Dharma Productions already has a licensing deal with Amazon Prime. With this, the streaming service will air the digital premieres of movies like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, Ok Jaanu featuring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which has Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

    With this deal, existing Prime members will have access to unlimited streaming of this popular content as a part of their Prime membership.

    “We are extremely excited to partner with Dharma, and to add their films to our library. Movies from Karan Johar’s production house continue to be a favourite amongst film lovers, and we’re only facilitating a platform for viewers to watch their all time favourite films,” said Spuul Global CEO Subin Subaiah.     Dharma Productions celebrates 11 years of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

    MUMBAI: Even after 11 years of its release, Dharma Production‘s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham continues to gather accolades from all around the world.

    The film is telecast almost every weekend on television and is also the highest TRP grosser. Released on 14 December 2001, the film enthralled the audiences worldwide with flawless performances and a very strong message – ‘It all about loving your parents.‘

    The film stars Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor in leading roles. Karan Johar managed to get the dream star cast together on the silver screen. Hence, it was no surprise to see the family drama receiving fifteen nominations at the Filmfare Awards. Written and directed by Johar himself, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was also screened at the International Film Festival of Marrakech recently as a tribute to completing 100 glorious years of Indian cinema.

    Actress Achla Sachdev expires

    MUMBAI: Yesteryear actress Achla Sachdev passed away in Pune on Monday at the ripe age of 91.

    Sachdev was bed-ridden for the past seven months at Poona Hospital and Research Centre (PHRC).

    It may be remembered that Sachdev had broken her left leg after a fall in her house nearly six months ago. She also suffered from a brain infarction due to which she lost her vision and movements of upper and
    lower limbs.

    Sachdev gained immense popularity by playing roles of mother and grandmother in Hindi films. Her most memorable roles include Waqt in which she played wife of Balraj Sahani in 1965 and also as Kajol‘s grandmother in the 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

    Born on 3 May 1920, Sachdev made her film debut with Fashionable Wife in1938 and acted in over 130 Hindi films in her career. She charmed the audience by playing some memorable roles in films like Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Chandni, Karm and Albela.

    Bangladesh lifts 39-year old ban on Indian films

    MUMBAI: In a welcome sign, the Bangladeshi High Court has lifted the 39-year old ban on Indian film exhibition in the country.


    Expressing his happiness at the move of the Bangladeshi High Court, producer Mukesh Bhatt said, “That‘s great news! This move will provide a death knell to the pirates there who make merry by selling the latest Bollywood fare.”


    “We were always of the view that there should be mutual coordination between all SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan Maldives and Nepal). Bangladesh and India can be of good use to each other by mutual coordination. Who knows, one day we might see a joint Indo-Bangla film being rolled out,” Bhatt added.
     
    After Eid-Ul-Fitr festival that ends on 10 September, cinemas in Bangladesh will start screening Indian films. This will start with the release of three Bengali films – Jour, Badla and Sangram, that are currently awaiting approval from the Bangladesh Censor Board.


    Later, Bollywood‘s biggest hits including Sholay, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Dhoom:2, Don, Wanted and 3 Idiots would be exhibited.


    The Bangladesh Cinema Halls Owners Association has welcomed the move by saying that the Court‘s decision was “the best thing to have happened” to the country‘s cinemas. Cinema hall owners have expressed hope that they would be able to start showing new Indian films shortly.
