    Ten Sports signs an exclusive deal with US PGA tour

    MUMBAI: Ten Sports has signed an exclusive deal with the US PGA tour. Under the agreement, Ten Sports will telecast select live tournaments from the PGA tour, and also show the one-hour highlights and features Programme, ‘This is the PGA Tour’.

    The one-hour show ‘This is the PGA Tour’ show will kick off in March.

    With Ten Sports also having the exclusive rights for the European PGA tour, the world’s second biggest tour after the US PGA, and the Indian PGA tour, the channel has the most complete bouquet of golf for the growing number of fans in the sub-continent, claims an official release.

    Apart from the various tours, Ten Sports also has exclusive rights of the biennial Ryder Cup showdown between the USA and Europe, and also the PGA Championship, the fourth and final major of the year, the release informs.

    Taj Television Limited CEO Chris McDonald said: “With players like Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa performing exceptionally well on the PGA Tour and European Tour respectively, golf’s popularity is growing rapidly in the sub-continent. Ten Sports has always strived to bring the finest sporting action to its viewers, and it doesn’t get any better than the PGA Tour as far as golf is concerned.”

    Four of the biggest events on the PGA Tour – Players Championship (March 23-26), Zurich Classic of New Orleans (April 27-30), The International (August 10-13) and the Tour Championship (November 2-5) – will be telecast live, with the possibility of a few more tournaments adding to that list, the release adds.

  • ESS & Asian Tour extend broadcast agreement

    BANGALORE: ESPN Star Sports (ESS) and Asian Tour, the official regional sanctioning body for professional tournament golf in Asia, have extended their partnership agreement till 2009.
    Under the agreement, ESS will provide coverage of a minimum of 10 Asian Tour golf events a year till 2009. Golf enthusiasts will also continue to enjoy the weekly television magazine show, Asian Tour Weekly, which provides
    event highlights, showcases Asian players making an impact on the game today and features the latest golf news in Asia and around the world.
    ESS began coverage of the Asian Tour in mid-2004 and recently inked a new deal which will extend its involvement as Exclusive Regional Broadcaster with the world’s fastest growing Tour.
    ESS MD Jamie Davis said : “The popularity of golf in this region has been boosted by the success of Asian players like Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee and Thaworn Wiratchant, India’s Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur and China’s Zhang Lian-wei, all of whom have made a significant impact in the game of golf.
    The events on the Asian Tour schedule represent the pinnacle of Asian golf and the exclusive broadcast agreement with ESS enables the Asian Tour to showcase these events across Asia and work together in fostering the development of Asian Golf for the future, states an official release.

  • Asian Golf Tour launches weekly TV show

    MUMBAI: The Asian Golf Tour, the body for professional golf in Asia has launched the Asian Tour Weekly.

    The television magazine show aims at giving a new perspective on Asian golf. The weekly show premieres in Asia on 5 August and is scheduled to air 18 episodes this year.

    The programme showcases Asian players making an impact in the game today, their quest for victory and the latest golf news in Asia and around the world. Additional segments include interesting tips for golf enthusiasts straight from the Asian Tour players, reviews of recent tournaments and the latest developments in the game.

    The Asian Tour CEO Louis Martin added, “A new generation of Asian golfers like India’s Jyoti Randhawa, China’s Zhang Lian-wei and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee are following the path inspired by the likes of Vijay Singh and KJ Choi.

    “The Asian Tour Weekly tells their stories, follows them in their pursuit of success as they embrace the challenges of playing on the Asian Tour and strive to reach the pinnacle of the professional game.”

    The programme will be available to over 100 million homes across the region on channels such as CCTV 5 (China), NTV7 (Malaysia), Mediacorp (Singapore), TVB (Hong Kong), SBS Golf 44 (Korea), Metro TV (Indonesia), Channel 7 (Thailand) and CTS (Taiwan).
