    Graphic India appoints Salil Bhargava as COO

    MUMBAI: Graphic India, a character entertainment company, has appointed former Jump Games CEO Salil Bhargava as Chief Operating Officer (COO). The company is focused on creating leading characters, comics and stories for the Indian youth market through mobile and digital platforms.

    Bhargava, an veteran in the industry and brings more than twelve years of experience in media, entertainment and digital companies in India and overseas, will report to Sharad Devarajan, Co-Founder and CEO of Graphic India.

    CA Media, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group, had acquired an undisclosed large minority stake in Graphic India in January this year.

    Commenting on the new appointment, Graphic India Co-Founder & CEO Sharad Devarajan said, “Salil has been a leading force in pioneering India‘s mobile entertainment industry over the last decade and I am delighted to bring his experience to Graphic as we build a digital media company that transforms the Indian character entertainment industry with new heroes and stories to inspire the world.”

    Commenting on his appointment, Bhargava said, “I am thrilled to be joining Graphic India which is setting new boundaries in creativity for character entertainment in India.     Salil has a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce, Pune. He has studied at Michigan State University in USA and holds an MBA degree from Eli Broad Graduate School of Management.

    Graphic India‘s stories include, Ramayan 3392A.D. and The Sadhu, both currently in development as Hollywood feature films; 18 Days, a reimagining of the great eastern epic, the Mahabharata, by acclaimed graphic novel creator, Grant Morrison; Chakra The Invincible, the first superhero for India from legendary creator Stan Lee; and numerous other heroes and stories.

    Jump Games inks deal with Honest Ent for ‘Fido Dido’

    MUMBAI: Games publishing company, Jump Games has acquired exclusive mobile gaming rights for the Fido Dido, aerated drink 7 Up’s brand mascot.

    Jump Games has signed a two-year worldwide contract with Honest Entertainment to create and distribute mobile game titles based on Fido Dido across the world.

    The game features Fido Dido in his cool avatar that has to brave all hurdles to reach as far ahead in the game as possible. Fido’s journey is made exciting with loads of zany powerups and bonuses for sporting his cool factor. The first Mobile game Fido Dido is ready for release and will soon be out on leading networks worldwide, states an official release.

    Speaking about the license, Jump Games CEO Salil Bhargava said, “Fido Dido is a name well-known all over the world. Fido’s character has a lot of fun associated with it, which can be spun around to develop exciting titles. Our first arcade game is going to be out shortly and we’re on our way to creating a few more games including a 3D Fido Bowling title. We look forward to a valuable relationship with Honest Entertainment and Fido in developing some remarkable Mobile content.”

    Jump Games, Reliance Communications launch gaming contest ‘Don Kaun’

    MUMBAI: Jump Games and Reliance Communications have announced the launch of nation-wide mega mobile contest ‘Don Kaun’ on the Reliance Mobile World platform.

    The grand winner of the contest will win a date with the Bollywood actor Sameera Reddy. Other daily, weekly and monthly winners can take home gifts like Ipods, PS IIs, XBoxs along with a Plasma TV for one lucky winner, asserts an official release.

    The contest will sport Jump Games’ ten Mobile games that include titles like Sameera the Street Fighter, Bappi Da Disco King, Run Maddy Run and Baichung Bhutia – Pro Striker as well as a few international titles like Maradona and Van Damme Kick Boxing.

    The games featuring in the contest will be available for Reliance Mobile World (R World) subscribers across the country. The users will be able to access the games on Reliance Mobile World. To be eligible to take part, users need to submit high scores for each game.

    Jump Games, Virgin Comics tie-up for worldwide release of mobile games

    MUMBAI: Jump Games, mobile and web games developer and publisher has joined hands with Virgin Comics in an agreement to expand the Virgin Comics Shakti series characters into mobile games. With this association, action and role-playing games based on three Virgin Comics properties – Devi, The Sadhu and Ramayan 3392 AD are slated to launch globally in January, March and April 2007 respectively.

    Jump Games (previously Paradox Studios) CEO Salil Bhargava told Indiantelvision.com that the company had lined up telecom operators across the globe for this worldwide release including DoCoMo in Japan, Horizon in US, Vodafone in Europe. Ofcourse, in India he emphasised that they were in talks with all mobile players including the usual suspects Reliance, BSNL and Idea. The price points will be based on a pay-per download system as per expected rates.

    All these mobile games contain multiple levels of game challenges with varying difficulties. Jump Games has developed the mobile applications and will be responsible for marketing the games worldwide.

    These comics were released across the US and UK four months ago however, the titles have not yet arrived in India, the company is targeting December end for its launch. In addition, the comany is also looking at releasing localised versions of the same across Europe by the end Q1 ’07.

    There is a need to build the comic industry in India by targeting primarily Indian youth (15-25 year olds) which comprises the voice of a new generation, says Virgin Comics CEO Sharad Devarajan.

    Commenting on the new relationship filmmaker and Virgin Comics co-founder Shekhar Kapur said, “Mobile Gaming is predicted to be the fastest growing sector in the entertainment business worldwide, and I am excited by our collaboration with Jump Games.     In addition to Devi which depicts an Indian female superhero created by Shekhar Kapur, Ramayan 3392 AD is a futuristic sci-fi story inspired by the original Ramayan mythology, also created by Kapur along with author Deepak Chopra. The third is The Sadhu, which follows the story of a British soldier who discovers the mystical powers of Indian sadhus. Actor Nicolas Cage has been roped in to play the role of The Sadhu in the feature film. A fourth mobile application based on Deepak Chopra’s recent book Kama Sutra will explore Chopra’s views on the connection between spirituality and sexuality.
