NDTV pivots to live entertainment with star-studded concert series

NEW DELHI: NDTV, India’s three-decade-old news broadcaster, is striking out into uncharted territory with the launch of NDTV Good Times, a live entertainment venture that promises to bring marquee musical acts to iconic venues across the country.

The move marks a bold departure for the Delhi-based media house, which has built its reputation on hard news and current affairs. Now it is betting that India’s youthful demographics and growing disposable income will fuel demand for premium live experiences.

The inaugural lineup reads like a who’s who of Indian music. AR Rahman will perform at Varanasi’s sacred ghats along the Ganges, while Sonu Nigam plans a tribute to legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi at Kashmir’s Dal Lake. The roster also includes composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and popular singers Jubin Nautiyal and Neha Kakkar.

“NDTV has always stood at the intersection of storytelling and society,” said chief executive and editor-in-chief Rahul Kanwal. The company aims to “curate iconic performances that will not just entertain but also inspire, connect, and create lasting memories.”

The venture taps into a global trend where live entertainment has become a cultural force, particularly among younger audiences who prize authentic, shared experiences over passive consumption. India, with one of the world’s youngest populations, appears ripe for such offerings.

NDTV’s strategy leverages its existing broadcast and digital infrastructure to amplify these events beyond their physical venues. The company has partnered with ticketing platform  District to handle bookings and logistics.

Rahul Shaw, the newly minted chief experiences officer, positions the initiative as “reimagining the heartbeat” of Indian culture by combining top-tier talent with extraordinary settings.

The move comes as traditional media companies worldwide grapple with changing consumption patterns and seek new revenue streams. Whether NDTV’s gamble on live entertainment pays off will depend on its ability to translate its storytelling credibility into successful event curation—and whether Indian audiences are ready to pay premium prices for the privilege.

  • Love at first sight unseen in Zee5 rom-com Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan

Love at first sight unseen in Zee5 rom-com Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan

MUMBAI: Who says love needs eyes to see? Sometimes, it only takes a train ride, a song, and a spark to light up a story. That’s the heart of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, a tender rom-com inspired by Ruskin Bond’s The Eyes Have It, premiering on Zee5 on 5th September.

Produced by Mini Films and directed by Santosh Singh, the film follows Jahaan (Vikrant Massey), a blind musician with a gift for melody, and Saba (Shanaya Kapoor, in her debut), an aspiring actress with fire in her heart. Their chance meeting on a train sets off a connection not bound by sight but built on shared dreams, witty banter, and moments that toe the line between humour and heartache. Adding depth to the journey is Zain Khan Durrani in a supporting role.

The soundtrack, composed by Vishal Mishra and featuring vocals by Jubin Nautiyal, Asees Kaur, and Mishra himself, adds another emotional layer to this story of love beyond appearances. Zee5’s Kaveri Das calls it a “refreshingly unconventional rom-com that speaks to both heart and humour.”

For Massey, playing Jahaan was “an enriching experience that revealed strength in vulnerability,” while Shanaya Kapoor describes her role as “the perfect story to begin my journey with.” Their chemistry promises both light-hearted fun and stirring emotion.

With its playful warmth and soulful undercurrents, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan invites audiences to “dil se dekho” see with the heart. On 5th September, when it streams exclusively on Zee5, viewers might just find themselves falling for a love story that proves sometimes the most powerful connections are the ones you don’t see coming.

Social media campaign to clean littered places gets support from Dabang Delhi, Jubin Nautiyal

NEW DELHI: In a unique campaign, a not-for-profit non-governmental organization will print photographs of unclean and littered public spaces in cities to encourage people to join together to clean up those areas.

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) India will through Click2Clean to organise collective action by citizens, governments and the private sector.

A community-driven initiative, the campaign is initially being rolled out in Delhi NCR (Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad) today and will later cover cities across the country.

Through the Click2Clean campaign, citizens of Delhi NCR will click and upload photographs of ‘unclean’ and littered public spaces, after which a screening committee will select 100 sites from all the images it receives and ensure they become litter-free within a given timeframe.

A Facebook page has been created to help citizens upload images. People can also donate for the campaign through this link

The campaign has already received support and has been endorsed by Pro Kabaddi League team Dabang Delhi and Bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal.

CAF India CEO Meenakshi Batra said, “While we are doing a lot of work in the area of sanitation in rural areas, there is an urgent need to clean up our cities as the number of people migrating from rural to urban areas continues to surge with every passing day. This exerts an ever-increasing pressure on civic agencies to ensure cleanliness and maintain sanitation standards. Keeping this in mind, we have launched the Click2Clean campaign in Delhi NCR to start with and appeal to corporates and individuals to participate in this movement to clean our cities.’’

DoIT Sports Management (India) director Radha Kapoor and Dabang Delhi team owner added, “Dabang Delhi is committed to positive social change as part of the socially responsible objectives of DoIT Sports Management. As a step in that direction we are pleased to associate with Charities Aid Foundation’s Click2Clean campaign. Dabang Delhi strongly believes that hygiene and sanitation are major contributors to a healthy living and this campaign fulfils our objective of reaching out to society and specifically educating our youth to keep the environment clean. We endorse the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ and strongly believe that just like sports, healthy habits, need to be practiced and made a way of life.”

The campaign, which will be implemented in collaboration with CAF India-validated NGO partners, aims to raise public awareness, build critical ethical and civic sense in communities, enhance citizen participation and volunteerism through civic action, and promote partnerships and alliances among various stakeholders (communities, government, and the private sector).
