    TLC presents ‘Jamie & Jimmy’s Food Flight Club’

    MUMBAI: TLC presents an exciting food show that brings together two popular food aficionados and old school chums – Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty. They will take their food fight out on the road, travelling abroad to take on big food challenges and see how their culinary creations measure up against the best of the rest.

     

    The two Essex natives appear together for the first time in the four-part series Jamie And Jimmy’s Food Fight Club and will air every Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.

     

    Each Week Jimmy and Jamie will head across Europe in their Ford Capri to dig up British Food, and take on the best the European neighbors have to offer. The series will feature the theme of cheese and sausages, where they will go up against their original makers – the French and Germans respectively.

    The two childhood friends will bring together friends, locals and special guests for a food fight where anything goes. It will showcase appetizing dishes cooked by Jamie, a touch of foodie science by Jimmy and lots of laughs with some special friends, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Alan Carr, Gary Barlow, Jonathan Ross and many more.

    Isabelle Huppert wins BBC Four World Cinema award

    MUMBAI: UK pubcaster the BBC‘s channel BBC Four has announced that actor Isabelle Huppert is to be the recipient of the World Cinema Achievement Award at the eighth BBC Four World Cinema Awards, celebrating the best of international film-making and highlighting the channel‘s commitment to international cinema.

    Huppert is famous for fearlessly embracing challenging roles – most notably in ‘The Piano Teacher‘. Huppert has worked with numerous great directors such as Chabrol, Godard, Haneke and Tavernier.

    BBC Arts commissioning editor Mark Bell said, “It is a privilege to welcome the extraordinary Isabelle Huppert to this year‘s awards. She has delivered outstanding performances through her long career, and we are honoured that she has accepted this year‘s Achievement Award.”

    Huppert will receive her award at a special BBC Four television ceremony, presented by Jonathan Ross on 15 November at the BFI Southbank in London, to be aired on 20 November.

    BBC Four will also showcase Isabelle Huppert‘s talents by broadcasting her film ‘White Material‘ immediately after the World Cinema Awards in November.

  • The 2007 British Academy Film Awards take centre stage on STAR WORLD

    MUMBAI: Which of Britain’s celebrated stars will be honored at the 2007 British Academy Film Awards? Find out when STAR WORLD televises the glamorous event on Tuesday, February 27th at 9pm. With talk-show veteran Jonathan Ross hosting from London’s Royal Opera House, the celeb-stacked ceremony promises plenty of surprise wins and shock upsets.

    For 60 years, the British Academy Film Awards has recognized and honored outstanding achievements in film and 2007 offers a strong and diverse field of contenders. Reigning supreme at the top of the list is The Queen. The royals-in-ruin drama is nominated for 10 awards, including Best Film and Best Actress for Helen Mirren. Voters were also shaken and stirred by the latest James Bond adventure Casino Royale, which picked up nine nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Daniel Craig. Among the other stars vying for Best Actor honours are Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) and acting legend Peter O’Toole (Venus).

    Also in contention with seven nominations is the complex, cross-cultural drama, Babel. As well as nods for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, the Golden Globe®-winning movie is also up for Best Film. In the latter category, Babel will compete against the Idi Amin biopic The Last King of Scotland, which is nominated in four other categories.

    Over the years, the British Academy Film Awards has attracted the best from the worlds of cinema and celebrity. The 2007 line-up continues that tradition and includes such gifted stars as Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Collette, Kylie Minogue and Sienna Miller. Filled with surprises, celebrities and style, the British Academy Film Awards is a dazzling tribute to the world’s most talented filmmakers and exceptional stars.     BBC DG Thompson & Apple’s Jobs top UK’s media power list

    MUMBAI: BBC DG Mark Thompson has topped the Guardian’s list of the most powerful figures in the UK media once again.

    Three people in the top 10 come from technology companies, including Apple head Steve Jobs who is at number two. Jobs rises four places in this year’s list, keeping News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch in the third spot for the second year in a row.

    The Guardian notes that Thompson has recently been in the news for his £619,000 salary and also for his radical restructuring of the corporation. This year’s list was dominated by the digital media revolution. Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are in fourth place.

    As far as Google is concerned Guardian notes, “So ubiquitous has Google become that it is hard to imagine what we ever did without it. The ultimate convenience research tool, its founders Brin and Page are in the midst of transforming it from a search engine into a technology giant.”

    Rising from 19 to five on the list is Channel 4’s CEO Andy Duncan, who the paper notes, “ has overseen an unprecedented year of growth and ambition”.

    Jonathan Ross who hosts film shows for the BBC is at number 19.

    BBC forks out $33mn to retain film host Jonathan Ross

    MUMBAI: Jonathan Ross who presents film shows for UK pubcaster the BBC like Friday Night and Film 2006 has renewed his contract despite fierce bidding from rival channels. Reports indicate that Ross will be paid $33.1 million over a three year period.

    With his tongue firmly in cheek Ross said, “I am delighted to be staying with the BBC if only because it is the only studio I can drive to without getting lost. It is the best channel in the country, and I’m proud they want me back.”

    This deal covers BBC Television and BBC Radio. Channel 4 and ITV were competing for Ross. However, when the BBC matched Channel 4’s offer Ross decided to stay put with the pubcaster.
