Seifert wrote: “In June I will have served Ogilvy for 41 years, the past five as worldwide CEO. I have worked closely with Mark Read since his appointment [as CEO] in 2018 on leadership development and succession planning across The Ogilvy Group, and that includes me as well.”

“It’s been an extraordinary privilege to serve Ogilvy since joining the company as a summer intern in 1979. I love this company with all my heart and will be forever supportive of its success,” he added.

The company is in the process of looking for a successor. Seifert took over as worldwide CEO and chairman of Ogilvy, succeeding Miles Young in 2016. In 2018, Seifert led a rebrand of the agency, changing its name from Ogilvy & Mather to just Ogilvy.

MUMBAI: Advertising Company Ogilvy has announced that chairman of Ogilvy India, Piyush Pandey will be promoted to the role of worldwide chief creative officer. He will be replacing Tham Khai Meng who was discharged in July. Pandey’s role will commence from 1 January 2019.

Ogilvy also announced that it will expand its Worldwide Creative Council from 12 members to 20; the 20 members—of which half will be comprised of female creative leaders—will be announced in January of 2019. At last year’s Cannes Lions, Ogilvy announced its commitment (in partnership with the 3% Movement) to recruit 20 senior women in creative globally by 2020.

Ogilvy Worldwide chief executive John Seifert said, “We could not be more thrilled that Piyush will be serving as our chief creative officer, worldwide and my creative partner.  Piyush is a true industry icon who is uniquely suited to lead our global creative efforts. Piyush is the perfect leader to shepherd that legacy as we continue to focus on making brands matter as the leading creative network in the world.”

Seifert told Campaign India that he had considered both internal and external candidates for the global creative role. He said, “I wanted someone who would be a real partner to me and who would be true to the creative spirit of our founder David Ogilvy, But it was very clear that Piyush was the right candidate for the role.”

Seifert continued, “Piyush is deeply rooted in society and culture and the humanness of our world. He’s also someone who doesn’t look backwards, only forwards, and who is enthusiastic, excited and humble. He’s someone everyone can be inspired by.”

Seifert believes that his working partnership with Pandey would become a model for Ogilvy offices around the world, as he said, “To date, we hadn’t really galvanised our network to ensure creativity is the lifeblood of everything we do, Piyush will now help me drive that.”

Meanwhile, Ogilvy US CCO Joe Sciarotta has been appointed as deputy chief creative officer, worldwide and will report to Pandey and Seifert.

Ogilvy terminates worldwide CCO Tham Khai Meng

MUMBAI: Over the last six months, a handful of agency leaders have lost their jobs due to misconduct. The latest to join the list is from as agency Ogilvy. The company terminated its chief creative officer Tham Khai Meng after employees complained about unspecified violations of company policy, according to an internal memo from CEO John Seifert.

Meng had the role at the WPP firm since 2009, a role that effectively ended after a two-week investigation memo Seifert sent to his staffers globally.

Seifert did not specify the nature of these complaints in the memo but did state that he “found these complaints serious enough to appoint external legal counsel to investigate the matter”.

After stating that the subsequent investigation “concluded that Khai’s behavior was a clear breach of our company values and code of conduct,” Seifert confirmed that his employment with Ogilvy was terminated with immediate effect.

Khai joined Ogilvy in 1999 and went on to become one of advertising’s most visible, creative thought leaders. He was promoted to worldwide CCO and co-chairman in 2009 and served as the public face of one of the world’s oldest ad agencies.

Ogilvy south Asia executive chairman and creative director Piyush Pandey said, “This is a first-time designation at Ogilvy & Mather in keeping with Sonal’s stature. Sonal was my first partner in building the creative reputation of Ogilvy India as it stands today. I am sure we will have a great partnership again to take Ogilvy to even greater heights.”

Dabral worked at Ogilvy India from 1991 to 1999. He then took over as the Creative Head of Ogilvy Malaysia and within three years made it the No. 1 Creative Agency in that country. He then took on the responsibility at DDB Mudra as Chairman and Chief Creative Officer.

Pandey added, “As my partner in the 90s, he hired more creative talent than I have done in my life. He not only hired them, but inspired them and gave them wings to fly on their own. Sonal is a popular speaker around the world and a favourite jury member on every international award show. There is so much to Sonal’s achievements, that if I write them all, his joining us will get delayed.”
