Ragini MMS 2 and Krrish 3 set for Diwali ‘13 release

MUMBAI: Hrithik Roshan-starrer super hero fantasy Krrish 3 will be facing off with the sequel to horror flick Ragini MMS (Ragini MMS 2). Both the films will release on 3 November next year.

In fact, if posters of the upcoming film kept at the Balaji office are to be believed, the makers have been asking the audiences to "Get laid this coming Diwali."

Ragini MMS will be the first Diwali release with adult content. The movie stars Sunny Leone who debuted with Jism 2 this year.

This thwarts the superhero‘s plans to get a solo release next Diwali. When contacted Balaji Motion Pictures CEO Tanuj Garg confirmed the plans but refrained from giving out the release date. "We haven‘t formalised a release date but actively looking at October-November," he said.

  • Filmmakers resent CBFC decision to stop re-certifying adult films for TV

Filmmakers resent CBFC decision to stop re-certifying adult films for TV

MUMBAI: In a move that threatens to derail several top-of-the-line production houses which make a chunk of their profits from the advance sale of satellite rights, the Central Board of Film Certification has decided to stop re-certifying A-rated films for television.

According to sources, the decision has been taken in accordance with the provisions of the 1952 Cinematograph Act.

The move is likely to severely affect advance sale of satellite rights on part of the producers or production houses.

A number of big-ticket films, including Aamir Khan‘s home production Delhi Belly, Anurag Kashyap‘s Gangs of Wasseypur (parts 1 and 2) and Vikram Bhatt‘s Hate Story, are waiting for CBFC clearance. The satellite rights of many of these films have already been sold to broadcasters amounting to multiple crores.

For the last several years, the CBFC has been modifying A-rated films, both from India and abroad, through a ‘Form of Conversion‘ that was introduced at the board-level to facilitate the TV telecast of certain movies.

All this began last month when objections were raised with the manner in which The Dirty Picture had been modified for TV. The CBFC then told the film producers that they should specify to TV channels that all modified ‘A’ rated films should only be shown only after 11 pm.

Though this suggestion was accepted for The Dirty Picture, Vishesh Film, the producer of Jannat 2, challenged the The Dirty Picture‘s guideline in the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) fearing a loss of revenue in satellite rights.

The Dirty Picture aired on 26 August on Sony Entertainment Television.

The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal, while ruling in favour of the production house‘s favour, had told CBFC that it could not decide the slotting of films on TV. It was then that matters came to a head.

Airing his discontentment, filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt groused, "This is a very serious matter. Now, there is no other way but to lock horns with the government. We might require judicial intervention failing which the entire economics of the film industry will go haywire."

Recent films with an ‘A’ certificate include films like Sahib Bibi Aur Gangster, Shor in the City, Shaitan, Ishqiya, Desi Boys, Love Sex Dhoka, Jism 2, Murder 2, and Ragini MMS.

Gangs of Wasseypur 2 fails; Jism 2 collects Rs 301.5 mn in first week

MUMBAI: Gangs of Wasseypur 2 failed to sell its gore and violence after the first part delivered all the shock and awe quotient it had to. The part 2 fell short on all counts and the Wednesday release may have hurt its prospects further.

Gangs of Wasseypur 2 collected Rs 152 million, including paid previews on Tuesday, in five days with no escalation to show for the weekend. The impending release of Ek Tha Tiger on August 15 will end any hopes for the film.

Jism 2 ended its first week, including paid previews a day before the release, with Rs 301.5 million. Its collections will taper down to a few hundred thousand as week two progresses.

Kya Super Kool Hai Hum sustained well in its second week to collect Rs 80.5 million. Its total collection, including Rs 19 million in its third weekend, was Rs 451.5 million.

Cocktail is through with its major business and has just Rs 7 million to show for its fourth week; with this, its total collection stands at Rs 759 million.

Bol Bachchan collected a decent Rs 21.5 million in its fifth week, taking its total business to Rs 996.5 million.

Jism 2 first weekend collection at Rs 209 mn

Mumbai: Jism2, starring porn star Sunny Leone, drew curious crowds as it opened but took a beating as the new week dawned. The movie known for its sleaze content, had a first weekend collection of about Rs 209 million, including Rs 7.4 million collected from paid previews a day before the regular Friday release on 3 August.

Kya Super Kool Hai did very well in its first week to collect Rs 352 million, the advantage being a low price tag. The second weekend proved decent enough with figures of Rs 55 million.

Aalaap, a film about Naxals v/s youth, fared poorly at the box office and collected about Rs one million in its first week. Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai, with total collections of Rs 1.3 million over two weeks, is a lost proposition.

Cocktail sailed through its third week with figures of Rs 39 million. Bol Bachchan added Rs 45 million in the fourth week to take its total collections to Rs 975 million so far.

Gangs Of Wasseypur collected Rs 800000 in its sixth week taking its total to Rs 261.5 million. Rowdy Rathore took its nine week total to Rs 1.39 billion, adding Rs 1.8 million for the week.
