    Meta onboards Dilpreeta Vasudeva as head of marketing – business messaging

    Mumbai: Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp parent-company Meta has appointed Dilpreeta Vasudeva as the marketing lead for business messaging (WhatsApp, Instagram & Messenger).

    Prior to joining Meta, she worked as the founder of CMO Access. Previously, Vasudeva headed marketing at Jio Studios, before helming marketing transformation and financial services at Bharti Enterprises.

    An ISB Alumna, Vasudeva has worked alongside senior leadership teams of MNCs & Indian conglomerates garnering experience across more than seven categories & functional disciplines of marketing. She held a stint as head of digital marketing at Tata Play previously. Vasudeva has also worked with conglomerates Microsoft, Times Internet, Tech Mahindra and Radisson.

    Vasudeva took to LinkedIn to make the announcement, with the caption, “Meta Metamates Me.” She wrote: Stoked to join as the Marketing Lead for Business Messaging at Meta – WhatsApp, Instagram & Messenger.

    Voot Select set to stream ‘Apharan 2’ on 18 March

    Mumbai: OTT service platform Voot Select is set to stream the second season of “Apharan 2” on 18 March.

    Produced by Ekta R Kapoor and Jio Studios, the show features a stellar cast Arunoday Singh, Nidhi Singh, Snehil Dixit Mehra, Saanand Verma and Sukhmani Sadana and spans across 11 episodes. The show is directed by Santosh Singh, and it is written by Siddharth Sengupta, Umesh Padalkar, Anahata Menon.

    “Apharan is a cult series that was a runaway success,” said Viacom18 Digital Ventures head SVOD and international business Ferzad Palia. “We couldn’t be happier than to bring the second edition exclusively to Voot Select members and play home to this popular franchise. Apharan Season 2 marks the start of a heavy line up of top-quality Originals with probably the most robust slate that India will witness in 2022.”

    A special screening was held for the launch of the show attended by industry honchos on Wednesday. The star-studded affair was attended by Ekta R Kapoor along with the entire cast of the show.

    “This is my first collaboration with Jio Studios and Voot Select and I am thrilled to associate with them for an unconventional show like Apharan,” said Kapoor. “After the overwhelming response received from the audience for the first season, it only made sense for us to take them by surprise with Season 2 by steering away from the mainstream action-thriller genre.  With never-seen-before plot twists, the sequel is sure to make many jaws drop. Be ready – Kyunki Sabka Katega Dobara!”

    Set against the backdrop of India and Serbia, “Apharan 2” follows the story of a cop Rudra who sets out on a journey to kidnap an intelligent criminal Bikram Bahadur Shah who wants to eliminate India from the world map. The trailer of the show on YouTube crossed 35 million views over 12 days, according to the streaming platform.

    “The Apharan 2 trailer has risen viewers’ curiosity for the sequel, but the wait is not too long now,” said actor Arunoday Singh. “Playing the character of Rudra Srivastava has been an unforgettable experience for me. The entire cast has kept every minute detail in mind while getting into the skin of our respective characters. We embodied their physical as well as emotional traits. All I can say is that it will leave you at the edge of your seat. Hoping that you guys like it.”

    M&E veterans Saurabh Varma, Utpal Acharya launch Content Engineers

    Mumbai: Former Jio Studios chief marketing officer Saurabh Varma has joined hands with a former executive from Cinépolis Gulf and Sony Pictures Utpal Acharya to form a content creation studio – Content Engineers.

    According to a statement, the studio will put $50 million as an initial investment to create all forms of intellectual properties including feature films, web series, documentaries and docudramas to cater to both theatrical and OTT space.

    Content Engineers is backed by Silicon Valley-based technology consulting and Angel investing enterprise Veear Projects which has networks all across North America and Asia.

    “The content will focus on grass-rooted Indian stories with Indian values. The vision is to create films based on new-age, heart-warming Indian stories that will connect with audiences all across the world,” a statement said.

    The firm will set up its own ideation cell and think tanks, disruptive media-tech initiatives, technology innovations, VFX studios, a post-production unit, and virtual production and script lab. The team at Content Engineers will consist of writers, storytellers, content creators from all across India including tier 2 and 3 towns with a focus on commercially viable original stories.

    Varma has worked with Jio Studios, Inox, Reliance Entertainment and PVR Ltd, handling marketing, distribution, programming and content syndication. Varma has also directed multiple feature films. Acharya has been part of giant corporates like Sony Pictures, UTV, Studio18, Reliance Entertainment and Cinepolis Gulf handling box office, sales, business development, production, distribution, programming, content acquisition and syndication. Both will bring in the experience of over 45 years and more than 1500+ films together.

    “Good stories can survive the toughest of times and well-engineered content has the power to put ideas into the world today,” said Saurabh Varma. “The recent growth in demand for content due to the rise of so many OTT platforms has opened a world of opportunities to explore disruptive content. In today’s world, where language is no longer a barrier, we intend to create grass-rooted Indian content that is Indian and yet global in its appeal. Content Engineers intends to invest in people, emotions and stories seamlessly link these elements to create impactful and meaningful content.”

    “Apart from creating relevant IP’s and disruptive content, Content Engineers aim to build a wholesome system that will nurture the chosen projects from scripting till it reaches the audiences worldwide,” said Utpal Acharya. “At times, a good narrative fails to get the right audience due to the lack of proper strategy and initiatives. Content Engineers aims to fill that void by forming a fine balance between the creative and the commerce thinking in the media-tech business.”

    Mumbai: Jio Studios on Monday announced the appointment of Saurabh Varma as its chief marketing officer.

    Noted business analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh shared this news on his Twitter handle, stating, “Saurabh will be handling Content Marketing Strategy for Films, OTT and Regional content.”

    Prior to joining Jio Studios, Varma has worked as a chief marketing officer at Inox Leisure, where he was a part of more than 700 films and launched more than 500 cinema screens. Varma worked at Inox from 2005 to 2007 as vice president, film distribution and programming and later joined Inox again in 2018 to work as the CMO.

    Varma also served as the CMO at Reliance Entertainment, from 2007 to 2009, where he was responsible for film marketing, film distribution, content acquisition, and more related segments. He has also worked at PVR Cinemas as vice president, marketing and corporate communications, and was a film director and film marketing consultant at Saurabh Varma Pictures where he has provided marketing expertise to top studios of India.

    MUMBAI: Jio Studios and Vishesh Films have roped in south actress Amala Paul, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Amrita Puri for their first collaboration in the digital space. The web series is being directed by Pushpdeep Bhardwaj.

    The show revolves around the relationship between a struggling filmmaker and a top female actor of the 70s. While Tahir will play the upcoming filmmaker, south sensation Amala Paul will essay the role of the superstar. The show also marks Amala’s Hindi debut.

    Talking about the show, Mahesh Bhatt says, “I trust the magic of a new beginning in the digital world. Our first web show goes on floors with Amala, Tahir and Amrita, and our talented director Pushpdeep Bhardwaj.”

    The filmmaker also tweeted a photograph of himself along with the actors. He wrote: “The magic of a new beginning! Our first web show, a dramatic love story goes on floors.
