BANGKOK: ADFEST is pleased to announce that Shahir Zag, Chief Creative Officer at Y&R MENA in Dubai, is joining next year’s festival as Jury President of the Outdoor Lotus category.

A passionate typographer, designer, poet and creative sage, Zag has been instrumental in turning the creative spotlight onto the Middle East since moving to Dubai from Mumbai in 1997.

In 2012, he was ranked #1 copywriter, #1 art director and #2 Chief Creative Officer in the world by the Big Won Report, an annual global report tracking the award performance of agencies.

“I’m really kicked about the ‘Co-create’ theme at ADFEST this year. Doing great creative is no longer a writer-art director thing. It’s evolved into a wonderfully collaborative process. More and more, we’re seeing the influence of in-house producers and editors, artists, inventors, consumers, and interns doing social at two in the morning. It’s great that ADFEST as a festival is celebrating this. The APAC region is exciting for me because it’s brimming with great human stories and the creatives here are fearless in their telling,” says Zag.

Zag’s writing, design, and art direction have won trophies at ANDY, Art Directors Club, Cannes Lions, Clio, One Show, D&AD, London International, and New York Festivals.

He is also a prolific blogger, whose website shahirzag.com is full of pearls of wisdom such as, ‘The fear of being boring is a great motivator’ exquisitely expressed in perfectly kerned typefaces.

Zag was promoted to the role of Chief Creative Officer, Y&R MENA, in 2010. He moved to Dubai after four years working at agencies in India, including Lowe Enterprise Bombay.

“It’s not often you meet a prodigy like Shahir, who is a major creative force in the Middle East and beyond. It’s an honour to welcome him to ADFEST 2014 as Jury President of the Outdoor Lotus category,” says Jimmy Lam, President of ADFEST.

  • Close Yang Yeo joins AdFest 2014 as jury president, Press Lotus

Close Yang Yeo joins AdFest 2014 as jury president, Press Lotus

MUMBAI: China chairman & north Asia ECD at JWT Shanghai, Yang Yeo, will be joining next year’s Adfest as jury president for Press Lotus category.

“Adfest has always been the Asia Pacific region’s prestigious yet fun festival of creativity. A lot of the works that have won recognition here have gone on to inspire the world over. Thus it’s a huge honour being named the jury president for the press category,” said Yeo.

Yeo has put Chinese advertising on the map by winning China’s first-ever Gold Lion at Cannes for the Adidas Beijing Olympics campaign in 2008. In 2009, JWT Shanghai also won ‘Agency of the Year’ at Adfest – yet another first for a China-based agency. “The theme ‘Co-Create the future’ is very relevant in this digital age that we live in. Consumers of the past were extremely passive, whilst the audience of today has become more active, having the ability to interact, comment, and share instantly. I look forward to entries that successfully use the marketplace as forums to create shared values between the brands and their audiences, so as to deepen their level of engagement, albeit much tougher for press category to do this,” said Yeo.

On Yeo joining the prestigious jury list, Adfest president Jimmy Lam said, “Yang has a personality to match his huge talent as one of Asia’s most inspiring creatives. He is responsible for creating some of the world’s most awarded print campaigns, which makes him the ideal candidate to lead next year’s Press Lotus jury.”

  • Kentaro Kimura joins Adfest 2014

    Kentaro Kimura joins Adfest 2014

MUMBAI: Japan’s most acclaimed advertising executives, Kentaro Kimura, will head up next year’s direct lotus & promo lotus category as its jury president.

Hakuhodo Kettle executive creative director and co-CEO Kimura joined the agency he founded in 2006 after joining Hakuhodo in 1992. “The more ways we have to communicate, the more important human nature becomes. What moves people? Why do people take action? It may be an activity for social good, moving content, or a platform for experiences. There are a lot of possibilities for activating people. It is these inventions to move people that make the Direct Lotus and Promo Lotus categories so exciting,” he said.

Kimura says the theme of Adfest 2014, ‘Co-Create the Future’, gives him a positive, hopeful feeling.

“In the next 10 years, we will face more change than we did in the last 10 years. Our industry will also change a great deal. We communication professionals will be able to do more than ever before. Today, a truly brilliant campaign can cross borders and influence millions of people. We cannot only adapt ourselves to a given future, but also create our own future,” said Kimura.

Adfest president Jimmy Lam said, “Many of the campaigns created by Hakuhodo Kettle Inc. have changed the way people think about advertising. Kimura is a visionary when it comes to using technology to forge new ways of communicating with consumers, making him the perfect choice to lead the Direct Lotus and Promo Lotus jury next year.”

Adfest 2014 will take place on 6-8 March at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group in Pattaya, Thailand.

Adfest president Jimmy Lam said, “Paddy‘s credentials as an art director and designer are formidable. He has been involved in some of India‘s most celebrated print campaigns, which makes him our undisputed choice as Jury President of Design and Print Craft in 2013.”

Padhi, or Paddy as he is known in the advertising circle, started his career 18 years ago. After a 10-year stint at Leo Burnet, he started Taproot India, which ranked amongst the Top 20 Independent Agencies in the world in the 2010 Cannes Survey, and was the Best Performing Agency from India at ADFEST 2010.
